So far, here are the results of this "popularity contest", or the podium according to Golden Skate!

Dance
1. Belbin & Agosto
2. Navka & Kostomarov
3. Dubreuil & Lauzon

Ladies
1. Kwan
2. Cohen
3. Slutskaya

Men
1. Plushenko
2. Buttle
3. Lambiel

Pairs
1. Shen & Zhao
2. Totmianina & Marinin
3. Dube & Davison

How I calculated this: I gave each skater 3 points for a dream gold, 2 points for a dream silver, and 1 point for a dream bronze. In cases where people gave "ties", I averaged it, and counted only the top 3. For example Longhornliz dreamed up a tie between Sasha and Michelle, with silver going to Irina, and Carolina for bronze. From liz's dreams, I gave Sasha and Michelle 2.5 points each, 1 point to Irina, and none to Carolina. In cases where posters dreamed up ties for bronzes, the 1 point allocated for bronze was divided equally between skaters (for instance, from new_europe2006's predictions I gave 0.5 points each to Suguri and Ando).

Some "results" are indeed odd, such as Dube & Davison being 3d - that's because they got 1 gold vote and 1 silver vote for a total of 5 points. After them, Pa&To, Pet&Tik, S&S and Z&S all tied with 4 points each).

In a couple of days when more people "vote" I'll post all totals.

This is my dream podium. I know it won't happen, but I can still fantasize.

LADIES

Gold: Michelle Kwan.

After all these years, I still would rather watch Michelle than almost anyone else. I loved what Brian Joubert said about her in his recent interview--it's exactly what I feel too--so I'll quote him: "Michelle is very different. When she skates, she – oh, it's so hard to describe in English – she has a magical quality. You want to watch her, you don't take your eyes away from the beginning to the end. With other skaters, not so much. You look away."

Silver: Shizuka Arakawa.

I am a huge fan of Shizuka. She has power, artistry, and intensity in her skating. She is not a warm skater, like Michelle. She doesn't draw you in, or reach out to you. But I still love her. To me, she's like a diamond. A little cold, yes, but brilliant, technically exquisite, and elegant.

Bronze: Sasha Cohen.

Sasha isn't my favorite skater, but I'd still put her on the podium because of her artistry--the sheer perfection of her body line and her musical interpretation.

MEN

Gold: Evgeny Plushenko.

He is The Man. No one else can match his charisma, his flair, his drive--or his courage. He's been through so much the last few years, but he's kept on skating, kept on jumping, kept on winning. I'm in awe of him. And I love to watch him.

Silver: Johnny Weir.

I think Johnny Weir was born to skate. With his deep flowing edges, his gorgeous spin positions, his soft and easy jumps, his innate musicality, he seems at one with the ice, as if he were made for it. I love to watch him, too.

Bronze: Stephane Lambiel.

Stephane, to me, is an exciting skater. When he's on, he is just so dramatic and expressive. And his artistry is perfectly complemented by his blinding-fast spins and big, explosive jumps. Let's just say I don't get bored watching Stephane.

PAIRS

Gold: Shen/Zhao.

This pair has something so special. Like Michelle, they reach out to you--they make you want to root for them. You feel their passion, share their joy, when they skate. More than once, they've brought tears to my eyes.

Silver: Totmianina/Marinin.

This pair has improved so much in recent years. I love their technique, speed, polish, and perfection. However, they don't move me in the way that Shen/Zhao do. Their programs are absolutely lovely to watch--but they are not memorable.

Bronze: Savchenko/Szolkowy.

All the other pairs are far behind the top two teams. But this team, although new, already has a very nice pairs quality and chemistry to their skating. And her posture is lovely, which makes their lifts and connecting elements a treat to watch.

DANCE

Gold: Navka/Kostomarov.

Their new Carmen program pretty much has it all: the difficulty, the technique, and most of all, the drama you expect from an Olympic champion dance team. I have to admit they're skating very, very well this year.

Silver: Belbin/Agosto.

I love their flamenco free dance. It is dance at its purest: beautiful, fast, intricate, rhythmic movement. It's very hard to choose between them and the Russians.

Bronze: Dubreuil/Lauzon.

I've always loved this team for their gorgeous lifts and wonderful chemistry. And now have the perfect program to show it all off. Technically they are not in quite the same league as the top two teams, which is why I give them the bronze. But they are still wonderful.

This is pure fantasy, but a result that could be achieved if a lot of favorites go out and eat sushi in a bad restaurant.

Ladies
da Kwan, tied with Irina. I'd love them both to have gold
bronze Kostner-at home in Torino, of course, tied with Arakawa

Men
Gold -Klimkin, YESS!!!
Silver-Lambiel-sorry Stefan, but you can get to another Olympics for your gold
Bronze-Plushenko, because even with food poisoning, I can't picture him any lower than 3rd

Pairs
Gold Shen and Zhao (I love a great recovery from illness story)
Silver Inoue and Baldwin-after 3 Olympics, I want Inoue to have a medal
Bronze Savchenko and Szolkowy -I want them to win gold in 2010-if they get one now, they might retire and I wouldn't get to see them skate some more

Dance
Gold Tanith and Ben, but only after someone revises the last minue of their FD
(but their OD is the current BEST !!smokin!!!
Silver Grushina / Goncharov
Gregory and Petukhov have sushi before they leave for Olympics and are replaced by Matthews and Zavozin. M&Z win a super surprise bronze.

My very unrealistic dream podiums (I don't like oly's much and I don't do dance).

Pairs : The only competition I'll list specific skaters for specific positions
1. Shen / Zho
2. Petrova / Tikhonov
3. Zagorska / Siudek
(T / M leave me cold as do O / S and the other Chinese teams. I like the German team but it's still early for them)

Men
I don't want it to seem like I'm rooting against anyone, so I'll just mention skaters I think it would be cool to see on the podium in alphabetical order:

Buttle, Joubert, Klimkin, Lambiel, Sandhu, Weir

Ladies
1. Someone who'll have a long, high profile post olympic skating career (whoever that may be in whatever format she chooses)
2. Ditto
3. Ditto

(I won't be pinned down any more than that)

I would love to see a US sweep of the Ice Dance podium! That would rock my socks. B/A and G/P are both deserving IMHO and I love Jamie and Ryan as well... I think this is one of our strongest teams going into the games (the three ice dance teams I mean)

in ladies I'd love to see Sasha take it, and I would love to see Hughes actually get to skate and rock it out, but *Sigh* such is life in sport :(

Men, I want Evan to take it all with Matt on the podium as well

and for pairs... well... I want Marcy and Aaron lol
