I don't know if any of you read the Yahoo Skatefans list, but there is a poster there that troubled to write a very interesting review of the CD's. He is, I believe, an ex-dancer. He said that FP/M's dance was very interesting-from the waist up they looked smooth and flowy and from the waist down, their feet were just not right. He compared them to T&D's 1994 CD's (not their 1984, which are the Holy Grail of CD's, as good vs. any others as the figures of Trixie Schuba were to all other figures) By 1994 T&D hadn't done a CD in 10 years, and it showed in the feet but not in the waist up. He had FP/M quite a bit lower in the standings.

Their lack of leg line unison was very poor for a top team in the CD. As a person who habitually notices their feet first, of course this was obvious to me, and I missed any goodness about the upper bodies.

And in a CD, 'sold the program' is not part of the marks, any more than Trixie Schuba got marks for 'selling' a school figure.

I also hope the Italians trip up and fall in their OD. They're over-ranked and they have no respect for their competitors. It would be a shame to see them on the podium with better teams below them.

Also, it's unbelievable how much more "mature" and elegant the Canadians are as ice dancers than the Italians!

LOL, should I predict a fall from N/K in the FD just to shake things up? ;)

Although it's less surprising that the Italians fell when considering how bad the rest of the competition was also!

Their attitude after their skate today was very bad - totally unsportsmanlike and ungracious. They did not support each other after the fall like the other teams. Imagine standing there and glaring at each other and not even acknowledging the audience for all that time!

Lad, I wouldn't doubt that Mauri can trip over his own feet with two dances left in the comp.

and MM, you're right about Babs - she's got 'tude. and always had. that's where the tag "Scary Babs" came from.

And this is why I'm glad she is down in 7th. It's payback from KARMA for having this ungodliness to other competitors.......and like the old Biblical saying goes: "Pride comes before the fall". Barbara was full of pride.....and she fell

Sounds like you really hate N&K or you would not have wished this on them.

First of all -- MAURIZIO MARGAGLIO, TECHNICAL SPECIALIST??? Who they gonna get next to assess technique and edge quality, Surya Bonaly????

If there was ever an example of an overmarked team the Gaggers take the cake.
Aw, Mike you beat me to it. I was going to write that the best thing about F-P/M's return is that we get to say "Babs & Gags" or "the Gaggers" again.

DorisPulaski: Brilliant post, as always. ITA with the opinions of the poster you quoted from Yahoo Skatefans. You're no slouch in the observations department either, Wicked Yankee Babe. ITA with you, too.

My observation? Gags is getting a bit of a gut.

My predictions, which we all know are flawless: :rolleye:
Gold: Navka/Kostomarov
Silver: Belbin/Agosto
Bronze: Denkova/Staviski

Now look for each team I cited to withdraw tomorrow after falling in their morning practice. Sorry guys.

I also think we may see a lot of tired and cautious performances in the FD tomorrow. Yeah, JohnnyCoop, the final has Big Doody written all over it.

I was just kidding. I don't like N/K but I don't really want them to fall, not after seeing how much pain Marie-France was in last night! But I would like to see B/A beat them for Gold without a fall.

I'm sorry, but I just can't seem to let this go. Having re-read the article that was posted about the CD dance competion (in the CD results thread, for those who haven't seen it yet), I have yet a few MORE comments:

First of all -- MAURIZIO MARGAGLIO, TECHNICAL SPECIALIST??? Who they gonna get next to assess technique and edge quality, Surya Bonaly????

Second, when they mention that F-P said that "the Canadians" are too young and immature, I can only HOPE that Barbie is referring to Wing & Lowe (which would be insulting and rude enough) and not that she has completely lost it and is referring to Dubreil & Lauzon. Because if Barbie considers D/L to be "young and immature", she must have completely forgotten in her dotage, that Barbie and Marie-France Dubreil are both veterans of the Junior World Championships of -- are ya ready? -- the 89/90 season!!! [Different partners] Where I might add, Dubreil won the bronze and Barbie was 15th.

This one's gonna get ugly, folks. I can feel it. This just might end up being when the fertilizer finally hits the windmill.

Okay, it's the end of the day and like the server, I'm moving slow....can you provide a link to the whole conversation to which you're refering to? Thanks

I guess I'm late for the party once again. Hey, they got one medal they didn't deserve, so now, what, they want another one???? The Skate God has spoken, and he said, "Nah, not this time"! Now, I hope ol' Babs lightens up a bit before the freedance. I hear the judges deduct points for dancers who glare at their partners and wear a perpetual frown.

Certainly. I should have done this originally, but to quote Mary Gross from the early 80s "Saturday Night Live", at the point I started this thread, I was "so mad I could hardly talk!!"

The article that quotes Barbie FP can be found at:

This was originally posted by -- I believe the poster's name was jan -- in the "Dance Round 1" thread started by JOHIO2, where the origins of this thread can also be found.

On the french channel, they said that before the D-L's fall, with the points they had collected up to that point, if they had not fall, they would have been in second place after round two.... How unfortunate for them, I am happy to see that she has no broken hip, I saw her last month at canadian nationals and she is a very very petite women with very small bones, she could very easily broke her hip.

She has some time left until the worlds and if they skate to their potential they will be on the podium, I'm sure of that.

I do not know for you guys, but since the beginning of the olympics, I am just not into it, it just doesnt feel like the olympics, too many strange things are happening, I am just not in that mood, something has changed since 2002. Hope that it will come back.

I hope that Dubreuil & Lauzon will stay until 2010 for the olympics in Canada, they could get their medal there and try again, but 4 years is a long way down the road. I wish them all the best...

Also, I just could not stand the italians, the way they acted after the original dance and with the uge fall they had, I know that it is his fault, he is the one who did the mistake, but in a couple, you never blame each other, we always knew that she is a stronger skater then he is, it is visible... But the way she looked at him at the end.... This was so unprofessional...

Maybe Babs was referring to Tanith and Ben as the ones being too young and just got confused on the nationality?

BFP was such a witch to MM. If I were him I think I would have dropped her a$$ again in the FD.

I think her behavior after the fall was inexcuseable. They were representing their country. If an American team had behaved that way, they would be catching hell right and left. I felt really sorry for him, until I remembered his comments after the CDs. Then, I just felt a little sorry for him. She didn't have to behave like a witch and make him feel worse. It's not like they were rookies. They ought to know how to behave by now.

What I would have done, was, at the end of the FD, skate AWAY from her and take my bow at the other end of the rink. I was truly amazed that their FD wasn't a total disaster; I was expecting more than a few ugly moments, I mean, even going beyond the ones caused by Maurizio's lumbering "footwork", and I use that term in this case so loosely it rattles.

That FD they did was pathetic. It should have been below Domnina & Shabalin for sure, and while I haven't seen Faiella & Scali I suspect below them as well. It seemed like they were afraid of doing any move at all! Remarkable how with all that they were still ahead of the Lithuanians overall...
