Ah, that's why I often hear that salchov is very similar to toeloop? Ok )
Jumps can be classified into those that take off from the edge of one blade alone (salchow, loop, axel ... also walley and inside axel) and those that take off from the edge of one blade with an assist from the toepick of the other (toe loop, flip, lutz ... also toe walley).

Jumps can also be classified into those that leave the ice from the landing foot, with the skater's weight already centered over the landing side (loop, flip, lutz ... also walley and inside axel) vs. those that leave the ice from the non-landing foot and therefore require a weight shift in the air before landing, or before the tight rotation of multirevolution jumps (salchow, toe loop, axel ... also toe walley).

So if you're talking about what happens on the ice during the takeoff, salchow and toe loop are completely different.

If you're talking about what happens in the air after the takeoff, they're very similar.

Btw, I don't know how accurate this translation of Hanyu's thesis is, but it seems that even Yuzuru Hanyu has been thinking about this problem recently? See here on page 4: https://twitter.com/fly1011010/status/1387850234441699332

Not saying blade assist/PR shouldn’t be deducted on GOE (it should), but his toe loop isn’t always free of blade assist and he is not the paradigm of technique. It’s not as bad as Shoma or Satoko’s flip but it’s pervasive among skaters, even those with generally good technique like himself.

Also he says it’s rarely marked down- unless a skater with a blade assist gets all +4/+5s it is difficult to prove that the judges aren’t taking takeoff issues into consideration.
