Oy...I loathe the polka! Out of the ones I could bear to watch more than 30 seconds, I'd say the Duchenays "Lonely Goatherd" was the best. I was also watching for any trace of Christopher Dean and fortunately didn't see anything offensive (no neck grabbing). The music is not annoying, their costumes were attractive and their polka was as smooth as a polka can be. I have always loved K&P but their polka, full of Besti squats, was irritating. Usova/Zhulin's polka was very appealing too and I watched their program as well (but then started wondering if he was hitting her back then). So what is the difference between this polka and the Yankee Polka?

I can't say the polka is a favorite of mine in ice dance to watch, but it's REALLY fun to dance on the floor. I know because I've done it. So many quick movements and you have no time to breathe.

I love it too!!! Just so energetic and joyfully fun (and downright silly sometimes too!). Getting ready for lots of puffy white blouses and corset lacing everywhere!

The 1992 polkas were Original Dances. The Yankee Polka is a set pattern.

BTW, I did not like K&P's polka, although their great skating skills were evident during it-it was too stereotypically "let's make fun of the yokel polka dancers" style rather than "let's have lots of fun to somewhat silly music while drinking a few beers" which is more in line with what polka should be about IMO.

I liked best Usova & Zhulin, Duchesnay's and Rahkamo & Kokko.

The Duschesnays' is my all-time favourite, although I do like K&P's. The other ones I really liked were Calegari and Camerlengo's and Drobiazko and Vanagas' - hadn't seen them before, and I think D&V were already good back then (surprised to see they only got 17th TBH)! I wish someone had a video of Rahkamo and Kokko's original polka program, the one the commentator said the judges hadn't liked. I couldn't find one anywhere.

That music sure didn't sound like polka music to me. R&K always seemed to prefer to do their own thing - at least that's how I remember them (that, plus R's OTT facial gestures and head wagging). I think these things distracted from their superb skating skills.

Yeah, R&K's program did seem more like a hoedown like the commentators said. Well, a polka skated to hoedown music. lol. It was kind of odd, but so was the 2nd version!
