In 2004 and 2005, it has been a SP/LP format, and that is the format for 2006. They seem to have settled on the standard GP format.JonnyCoop said:But it's still 2 longs, tho, isn't it? If it is just one short and one long, it can't have been for that many years; I believe in 02-03 it was still a short and two longs. This kind of thing is what has annoyed me about the GPF; seems like the format seems to change or modify every season.

When they changed it back to 1 short and 1 free in 2003, they did not reinstate the compulsory dance. Maybe the ISU though it would be a little unfair that the dances still had to go through 3 phases, where as pairs and singles only had 2. Or maybe they just could not figure out how to fit it into the schedule. Who knows.

My guess is that if she is to miss one of those events, it will be the Nationals - I'm sure the federation would send her anyway.chuckm said:As I understand it, Russian Nationals will be at the end of December this year. Will Irina want to do CoR, two weeks later the cheesefest in NA, then the next week the GPF in Japan, then less than two weeks later RN? Last year she was fine with her two GPs, but then she did the cheesefest and the GPF, and after all that, her illness flared up again and she wasn't the same skater at Russian Nationals and Euros.
Joesitz said:Chuckum - You said quite a bit there, and it leaves me to wonder if these forgetable cheesfests are worth while. The results are meaningless, imo, but they do serve a purpose of tweeking the routines of the competitors. Problem is the tweeking is not for the GPF. It's for the Olys, I would think.
I'm hoping there will not be a rash of sudden foot injuries causing cancellation of the GPF, but will heal by Nationals and definitely by the Olys.
Soon things will begin.

The ISU should realise that the GPF is pointless and its certainly pointless to require skaters to go. It should be an optional final and that way no-one has to do anything they don't want to.
