They started before the scheduled time, so I walked home from work and she is already skating. It took me some time to switch on the PC and set VCR. No detailed report. I still have to watch OD tape after Ladies LP :) Sloppy performance with many jumping mistakes (mostly "give up in mid-air" types of mistakes).

TSS: 27.80/32.50=59.30
Place: 96.47, into 3rd

#5 Valentina MARCHEI ITA 19 40.31

CCoSp camel, CoE, layback, back sit, back Y.

Good choreography with loads on transitions. The music is Xotica, but less used parts, it's energetic, fast and upbeat. Suits her very well. Mistakes aside it was very good performance.

TSS: 35.64/37.74=71.35
Place: 111.66, into 3rd

#6 Jacqueline BELENYESIOVA SVK 23 37.27

Navy blue dress with weird cut

She starts with doing some cross rolls (is it a proper term?) looking utterly bored.

CCoSp, camel, /\, sit, back sit, back upright.

Very cautious skating, shaky and hesitant on most of the elements. Sloppy as well. It is hard to understand how she ended up skating in LP when skaters like Fleur Maxwell did not. Music is Man in the Iron Mask, but she has no power to match it. She looked disinterested throughout and made no attempt to sell the program.

TSS: 29.35/29.31=
Place: 94.93 into 5th, still beat Johansson, she must have been complete disaster

#7 Julia SEBESTYEN HUN 13 46.61

Red dress with white decoration.

3F fall
3L fall
3R underrotated, two-footed
FCSp to donut

3F underrotated, two-footed
SpSt change of edge somewhat shaky, back spiral, back half-Bielmann

CoSp, back camel, back sit, back upright
SlSt the music change midway her style does not
LSp sideways, classical, blade-to-head
FSSp to forward camel to forward LSp, to back camel to Bielmann to back upright

What's wrong with her? Jumps looked perfectly Ok during take off and "flight" and when she just "sit down" on the ice. It is actually rather nice program with decent amount of transitions. Unfortunately today it was all about jumps, she did not even attempt to sell the program. Nothing short of disaster. When she messed up at Worlds last year she was ill, but she is having problem all season long...

TSS: 32.39/45.90=75.29, nearly 30 points below her PB for LP
Place: 121.90 into 1st

She does not have power to pull off tango. Very poor position in sit spin, perhaps the worst I have ever seen, she did not even try to point the toes during it and its very high.

TSS: 30.19/33.89=63.08

She is lovely skater, with nice and accurate positions in spins and spirals, but her basics are poor and she lacks power.

TSS: 35.66/37.33=70.99

The program has some nice transitions in it and she was clearly the best of all we have seen so far (considering what disaster Sebestyen has been). Kudos to her. This "retro" style suits her very well. I do not understand what her first jump has been, she was setting it up like lutz, but turned around at the last moment. OTOH I am sure she did two other salchows as well... One of them must have been something else.

She skated worse today than yesterday. More juniorish, somewhat hesistant, running after elements in places. Got tired at the end. I suppose it was the pressure of being in the final flight, she showed much more command and power in SP.

Frankly, if her non-jumping elements were not so much bettee than Sokolova's I would have been tempted to put her 2nd. It was rather sloppy and I fail to see any choreography or relation to the music.

I look forward to seeing this. It should give us an opportunity to form an opinion as to whether any other skater has a chance against Irina or not.

I definitely think that Sokolova should have won. Irina had two mistakes, and was so sloppy overall.

Missing from Irina's details above are the two sucessfully landed triples before the double axel - the triple loop from double threes and the triple toe loop both were landed well and in the second half of the program and got the 1.1 multiplier. Also the second combination was a 3flip/2toe (tano on the toe).

I don't think Irina was sloppy at this competition at all - she was far sloppier at worlds last year.

And while Irnia may have very limited choreography/musicality, sokolova had no connection to her music at any point. She may have gotten most of her elements done but she could could have been skating to a recoding of workmen building site noises given how little she paid attention to the music. Very lackign in emotion.

I sadly (cause I like Sokolova so much) have to agree, not much musicality or choreography going on there. And I don't think the jumpsuit look suits her. Slutskaya looks great in a jumpsuit but Sokolova's arms and legs are too short in comparison with her torso for it to be an effective look for her, she looks a lot better in skirts.

Sokolova executed a flawless program at Skate America but the music could have been 'Pop Goes the Weasel' for all the feelings she had. She just isn't a musical skater but the technical is there.
