The podium for women will be:

1 Yu Na Kim
2 Mao Asada
3 Miki Ando
4 Kimmie Meissner
5 Yukari Nakano
6 Caroline Zhang (I hope)

Yu Na- I really think the judges will prop her up because she really has got everything. A perfect technique in everything she does, good speed and flow and now more artistic as well. Unless she makes a few mistakes there will be few doubts in judges' minds about giving her the best component marks.
Mao- She is phenomenal but has the problems of underrotation, flutz and inconsistent triple axel. Even if she jumps more Yu Na will get more positive GOEs to trump Mao. I think artistically she has also improved a lot.
Miki- Difficult call but I think she won't skate clean and possibly fumble here and there. There are a few things which will take it away from her- Above average but not top notch components, and MUST skate clean to win. I think she lacks the X factor the top two will have.
4 Kimmie I think will rebound as she literally has nothing to lose. Sadly she has not transformed herself since that phenomenal skate to win the 2006 Worlds.
5Yukari will perform well I think. She has been consistent with her jumps and has really nice spins. The problem is she needs others to fumble for her to climb to the top. The wrap of the leg during the jumps will go against her. She also doesn't have the natural beautiful quality Mao and Yu Na have.
6 Caroline- I wish and hope for her to be here, if not higher. She still has really small jumps compared to the others and underrotates etc. Otherwise her spins and speed are lovely, and I can see good artistry in what she does. I really hope she will give a phenomenal performance to kickstart her career at Worlds. Perhaps when she gets stronger physically she will rotate all her jumps.

Carolina- I think she's not going to get to the top at all anytime. Sadly she will not be consistent with her jumps and will take a lot of odd beating to end up at the podium this time. She does skate really really fast though.

Do you follow figure skating? Caroline Zhang is not eligible to go to worlds this year.
And btw, Kostner just got the bronze at the gpf. This doesn't mean she will be on the podium this time, but it is fairly expectable for her to be in range 4-6.

Hi everyone, first post!! yay!! I love this thread :)

Lest see my guesses are :

Men :

01 S. Lambiel (he can pull it off)
02 D. Takahashi (the most solid among all contenders)
03 T. Verner ( It would be so cool to see him on the podium)
04 E. Lysacek (very good just not wow factor)
05 B. Joubert (hasnt been his season)
06 J. Weir (too unpredictable
07 P. Chan (this kid is going places)
08 S. Carriere (same as above)
09 K. Van der Perren (too inconsistent)
10 J. Buttle (sadly in decline)

Ladies :

01 Y. Kim ( the one to beat)
02 M. Asada (Kim's only worthy contender)
03 M. Ando (if she's on, she's on)
04 C. Kostner (lacking something, dunno why)
05 K. Meissner (she's becoming the J. Weir of this season sadly)
06 Y. Nakano (shes doing great, hope she gest better)
07 L. Lepisto (the strongest of the finnish army)
08 S. Meier (same as Kostner, she just lacks something)
09 E. Hughes (Is she eligible for worlds despite the withdraw at nationals=??)
10 J. Rochette (just too average)

Dance :
01 Domnina & Shabalin (new russian sweethearts)
02 Delobel & Schoenfelder (veterans who deserve a little better)
03 Khokhlova & Novitski (maybe Im off on this one but i just love them!)
04 Virtue & Moir (will they be able to peak at vancouver?)
05 Belbin & Agosto (they are stuck)
06 Davis & White (kids are growing fast!)
07 Pechalat & Bourzat
08 Kerr & Kerr (always so underscored, hope they do better this time)
09 Faiella & Scali (have they peaked already?)
10 Cappelini & Lanotte (they are just not as strong as the other newbies)

Dunno much about pairs but lets see:

01 Savchenko & Szolkowy
02 Zhang & Zhang
03 Pang & Tong
04 Kawaguchi & Smirnov
05 Mukhortova & Trankov
06 Dube & Davison

After Euros, After Nationals, at this point, my prediction for men is:

1. Takahashi
2. Lambiel
3. Verner
4. Joubert
5. Weir
6. Lysacek
7. Chan
8. Carriere
9. Buttle
10. Van der Perren

I think Takahashi will get it this time while Lambiel and Joubert are not in the top shape. Verner is wonderful if he can pull it off. Lambiel will fight for the podium. It's not easy to pull him down. Joubert is not totally recovered from his illness yet, but if he goes, he will fight for it. He is a strong, tough guy. I admire him for that.

Weir wasn't able to take the Nationals title back with the tied total scores (I blame it on the unfair judging and the scoring system). It will fuel him up for at least beating Lysacek at the Worlds. Lysacek's competitive spirit will help him keep fighting. However, a clean Weir with a clean quad will put Lysacek under Weir.

Chan is strong and great this season. Carriere can move ahead of Buttle if Buttle falteres in his jumps. Van der Perren has been around for so long. He didn't move up and didn't move down. I think he'll stay in about the same position.

Too many unknown factors still out there to make any perdictions just yet.
Like how's Kimmie's doing with her new coach? Will Kim be fit and ready for Worlds? Will Joannie's confidence hold? Will the judges even be willing to place Joannie ahead of Mika, Carolina or even Kimmie regardless of how they skate? Even this season these three have received higher PCS marks even with off programs.
In men's there's the question of high how are the judges willing to place the new JR guns Patrick, Sergei and Stephen? Just look at how Patrick was held down mark wise at the GPF.
In pairs it's hard to call until we know all the players and how fit they are, with the Can teams down at the moment who knows.
In Dance it really does come down to who's the judges favs at this comp instead of who skates the best. I would say at this point the Rus have the edge and after them it's up for grabs for the next 5 places with 2nd Rus, Fr, Can and 2 US teams.

I don't see that Chan was held down much markwise at the GPF. He was skating against the best skaters at the GPF (Takahashi, Lambiel, Lysacek, Weir), while at TEB, he faced a much lesser cast (Voronov, Preaubert, Van Der Perren, Bradley). At TEB, he had two mistakes in the FS: 2S+1T, and falling on the final spin, but his performance was head and shoulders above the other men's. He got a score of 144.05, with a PCS score of 72.20.

Patrick skated a lot less confidently at the GPF; he possibly have been a little tired, and the slight altitude may have affected him. He had only two combinations because his 3S landing pitched so far forward that he couldn't add the 2T. His 2A was a mess, landed forward with a hand down, and he stumbled out of it. Considering the caliber of the competition, and the fact that his FS wasn't clean, his score (139.27, with 66.90 PCS) was not that far off his TEB score.

Early?? Picks or Final Picks?

It will be interesting to see how the picks play out. I see a lot based on favorites and last time the skater skated.

The top three seem to be in everyone's picks. But the next 7 are all so scrambled.

We should check back on this after the Worlds and see who could really know how to pick top 10,

Joe
