then I must be skating's dumbest fan... L/A's SP is so much more exciting than the rest.
Odd, because I find it the exact opposite. They telegraph all their elements, and have no choreography or transitions. Add that to the fact that Archetto has the expression level of a rock (worse than Isabelle Duchesnay!).

Their presentation marks were deserved. I don't understand why people think exciting music = a good program. Good Vanessa Mae music does not a good program make!

I didn't realize they had no choreography

like I said I must be the dumbest skating fan out there because their footwork is awesome... Anabelle as more spark than she needs so the team is covered (though I do agree Patrice needs to emote, that's been my complaint all year)... I'm not big on jumps, I've always been more of a choregraphy craving individual... and I think that Leyenda is their BEST EVER program, SP/LP/EX combined!

I actually agree . They've timed their elements very well to the music. Their elements are very well placed. I was using hyperbole when I said they had no choreo, but they have very little, but they have almost no transitions. Their long telegraphing on most of their elements is also vexing.

I was sad to see the trouble Shen and Zhao had too; they're one of my favourite pairs teams, and it was a real *ouch* to see not only the fall, but how long it took him to really get back into the program. :( I was really surprised to see the judges put them in first place (at that point) over L/A, who I thought had a really terrific skate with lots of fire, and well-executed elements. But I've read the previous comments and know that there is a lot of dissention on this topic, LOL.

Zhang and Zhang - WOW!!! Barb Underhill wasn't kidding when she said their elements were "explosive". That double twist was absolutely incredible - what height, and as Rosaleen said, "hang time"! You could hear the audience gasp when they did it.

I've never been a big T/M fan, but I thought their SP had really nice flow; they went from element to element seamlessly, and I had a really good sense of them skating a real *program*, and not just ticking off elements one by one. I'm not sure I'm describing this right, but I was impressed by their skate, and thought they deserved to win the SP.

All in all, I was really impressed by the pairs last night, and by how many clean programs there were! Lots to choose from... I was sure glad I wasn't a judge on that panel!

I'm really looking forward to the FS!!

S&Z in 4th place will have to pull a Sarah Hughes to win gold. I don't think that scenario will happen again even if S&Z win the LP.
I can't imagine the three teams above them having a melddown, and you know how to figure the 6.0 system.

Joe

Well if S and Z skate up to par they could very well win the long program. I know that they could definitely pass up the skaters in 2nd and 3rd. I don't see the 2/3 place skaters having a meltdown but S & Z don't need them to do that to pass them. What they need is to beat T & M and for someone else(anyone) to beat T & M.

The only thing I can't see happening is T & M having a meltdown. They seem to have had an uncharastically meltdown at one of the other competitions earlier this season. They are a consistent pair.

Well, I hope no one has a melt down. But, I'd love to see S&Z squeak this one out. They move me far more than anyone else in the top four and I hope they can deliver a stellar free skate. I'm not a big fan of T&M at all, but then again I haven't seen their new LP (thank goodness they got rid of "The Cotton Club"!). I REALLY hope I&B can skate better than they did at Nationals.

Note to rain on T&M but that 6.0 in the SP presentation marks MEANS something in the final placing.

Bleuchick - steps off the podium.

Me too on T&M dropping Cotton Club

That had to be the most horid choice of music considering their style that they could possibly make. Can't believe they stuck with it so long.

I did get to see their short on video converted to DVD. The quality ends up being a little choppy, but it does look like they had a great skate. I too am interested in seeing their new LP, which supposedly better fits their style. I think the pairs finals should be very exciting.

I too have a special liking for S&Z. I just hope they put down an awesome program and let the chips fall where they may. If they perform Nutcracker up to their potential, it will be worth the watch for me regardless of final placements.

I third that, about T/M's Cotton Club program - and what's more, even thinking about it makes that music go through my head over, and over, and over.... :\ I'm looking forward to seeing their new LP.

I loved Cotton Club. It was a fantastic program, even though they never peformed it like they should. I actually don't like their Art on Ice LP, but meh.

 I miss Cotton Club already.

Considering the bad year Anabelle Langlois / Patrice Archetto had this season, they skated their best. Patrice also was skating with an injured hand - two fingers are bandaged up, so I think they both did really well. I for one enjoyed their short program and am happy to see them "fighting back." I look forward to their long program.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot (which I will if it turns out Moskvina is coaching T&M, or for that matter, P&T--sorry, I stopped following pairs when Elena & Anton went pro, though I like S&Z), GOD I miss Moskvina! (I do know she hasn't gone anywhere, but I miss the time when her pairs dominated the sport) I remember her talking about her two pairs in Nagano, about how she "painted a portrait" for each, and presented them to the judges, who would choose which one they liked...everything I liked about Mishkutenok/Kazakova & Dmitriev & about Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze, I find utterly lacking in Totmianina & Marinin and Petrova & Tikhonov, though the first, from what I've seen of them at this worlds (SP video), was an attractive enough pair and completed their elements satisfactorily--that's IT.

Perhaps I'm being hasty, it is an SP, haven't been patient enough to sit through enough of their performances (I do recall despising Cotton Club as a program)...perhaps the first two (three since Dmitriev had two partners) pairs spoiled me to expect more from Russian pairs, but jeesh! I'll watch more, which will perhaps lead me to complain less, but I just finished watching the full video of T&M's SP, which failed to move me in the least, and I had to vent!!!

I agree that the current two top Russian pairs don't really do it for me...although I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Pet/Tik's LP at Eurosn this year.

But what about Obertas/Slavnov? They look to be a great future prospect!

And was she(Obertas) the girl who fell on her partner's head during a lift when skating for the Ukraine a few years ago? Or am I on crack??

kat.

edit: I'm right - accident at Worlds 2000. Her partner split with her after, claiming she was "too big" for him!! the cheek - she's tiny!

Me too!

I think that PotC is their best LP yet. I though it was much more interesting than T&M's, which I found to get repetative and lose some steam about half way thirough.
