Am just agog that M&B got higher TES that S&Z. Apparently they (S/Z) had a messy skate. All elements completed but a bit sloppy and not their usual standard. Although their PCS scores are pretty big and way ahead of anything so far. I'm sure they'll pull it together in the LP.

I am very suprised that Marcoux and Buntin skated very well and are only little more than 2 points behind Shen and Zhao

S&Z are LP skaters. They usually pull out big gap after LP. Like 2003 and 2004 worlds. While most other top pair teams tends to make mistakes during LP or lack of staminia in LP.

2004 worlds is an exception with top 3 teams skated clean LPs.

I pray that this Pair's Free skate goes better than the one at Skate America.

(Still thinking about Tatiana Totmianina. Glad she is ok. Can't wait for them to get back on the ice.)

I am worried too because some of the Axel Lifts seen here are way way way to risky.

That is because they are uping the difficulty of their programs. According to the new judging system, pairs skating difficulty is measured at 3 Levels (ex. Lv1 is the easiest and Lv3 is the hardest). So each skill that they do is meaured by difficulty and thats where you get your technical points. Obviously, lifts are one skill that has increased in difficulty among the skaters. Alot of the skaters are choosing to do the "axel lasso lift" (which is at a Lv3 difficulty). The reason this lift is so difficult because both skaters take off in a forward position. Already this lift has produced bad results.

Unfortunately, Skate America was one of the events that had terrible results. Besides the terrible accident which involved Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin, the other russian pair of Obertas and Slavnov almost had a terrible accident doing the same lift. There are skaters who can do them well like Dan and Hao Zhang of China, but its getting to a point where pairs skating is becoming to difficult and way to dangerous. Like ABC commentator Peter Carruthers said "If this keeps up, they may need to where helmets to protect themselves."

Wow, that's a great result for both top Canadian teams. A rather low placement for Z&S, though. Have M&B ever placed above Z&S? Interesting that they are both training with Gauthier.

It's still hard for me to get used to looking at the actual point total as opposed to the placement.

As for the difficulties of the lift -- ultimately, ISU will have to decide if the element is too dangerous to perform. There are several elements that used to be popular, but that we now see only in pro shows because they are deemed not safe enough. Perhaps the axel lasso lift should join the list.

Shen and Zhao had a problem with their "axel lasso lift" because of not having enough speed.

Although, Zhao admitted that he was a little shooken up during the short program because of what happened at Skate America.

So I think they were being a little cautious during that lift. Better safe than sorry.

We don't need another top pairs team getting injured. ::knocks on wood::
