Please Help: 1990's Competition Memories

I am going crazy here trying to identify a memory I have about a skating competition. I believe it was in the 1990s. I believe I watched it on CBS, but it was absolutely an American major network. I'm pretty sure it was one of the many competitions broadcast after the boom of figure skating post Tonya and Nancy, but it could have been before 1994.

And what I distinctly remember was unique about these competitions was that they were held outside. It was a unique camera angle, as there was a building on the right side of the screen.

I believe it was a Pro-Am, but I am not certain. I also have a memory that I watched these specific competitions (I thought they happened more than once) on holidays, like Thanksgiving weekend.

Can anyone please help me? I want to see if there any videos of those competitions, but I don't know what they're called…

Golden Skate has a great record of past pro competitions. Perhaps the one you may be thinking of was The Starlight Competition in 1995. Here's a link to Golden Skate's Pro-Am competition results which includes Starlight - it says it was held in Central Park. (Scroll down the page)

I found this video of Katarina Witt from the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjRv01e2s5Y
And one of Kurt Browning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SA9P6ijTZc

However, this event was on Fox and it was at night. I distinctly remember a comp in the daytime outside. Or maybe it was just a show? I know there was also the special called Too Hot to Skate which took place I believe in Las Vegas outside like on a temporary rink, that was at night as well.

I feel like you are right that there was a pro-am on CBS outside with the sun shining. You aren't crazy. There was a crazy amount of skating on then, good times!! If I find anything else I will add it here.

Oh, I think I found it! The 1994 Ladies Outdoor Figure Skating Challenge from Sun Valley. I think it might have been an eligible skating comp instead of a pro-am. Here are a few programs I found:

Nicole Bobek: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eNhuLElT-4
Michelle Kwan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs60vag0J9o
Tonia Kwiatkowski: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eKqzDku4pw
There also was a men’s version of this in 1994 including Brian Boitano among others (I think).

If there was a building on the side it most certainly was Sun Valley.

But, depending on when and what time of day it was (I didn't see anywhere the OP mentioned this), then it could have been the shows in Vegas "Too Hot" and others.

Thank you so much, Purple Cat! And everyone!

The Sun Valley location does look familiar to me. I have a weirdly distinct memory of watching Josee Chouinard skating to "Moon River" on this program.

Now I will use these great resources to look up more!

You're welcome Kenyie! 90's skating is my love so anytime I have a chance to walk down memory lane is a good one!

That MK and FC interview was great! This/these vid(s) will demonstrate just how BIG figure skating was 25 years ago....PaulE has been to Sun Valley to see skaters perform, many of the current and recently past skaters have been there.

Ah Sun Valley, a lovely place:coffee:. Don't forget Sonja Henie in "Sun Valley Serenade":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZn8uU-FNSw. This clip was probably shot on a sound stage in Hollywood. But it looks like an outside rink with a totally reflective surface. I wonder if there was a thin film of water on the ice? It reminds me of why I originally got interested in figure skating—my folks took me to see Sonja Henie movies when I was a child in the 1940s.
