Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I`m thinking about going to the GPF, since I can`t make it to Euros because of work. Is anybody in here going?

If you are thinking of going to GPF mainly because of Elena and Ruslan, then unfortunately it's not at all certain if they will be there. They meet with Cappellini/Lanotte at both of thei GPs. Sure, I/Z can beat them, but it is not certain. If both end up second and third (winning silver over the other at one GP out of two), and two more teams win two silvers (as in, Gilles/Poirier and Bobrova/Soloviev or Shibutanis who also meet at two GPs), then it will be between I/Z and C/L who goes to the GPF as the last team beside the three top teams who will most likely win both of their assignments and the two teams with two silvers. If two, or even three (actually there could be more) other teams will have also gotten second and third, then it will be between four or five (or more) teams who gets the remaining three spots (beside the three top teams). In the case if three other teams with a second and third place have higher combined scores than Elena and Ruslan, they will end up not going to GPF. So they really have to win Cappellini/Lanotte at both of their GPs to surely get into the GPF. Or they have to beat also Chock/Bates or Weaver/Poje at one of their GPs (thus winning gold and bronze which would be worth more than two silvers).

I want to go to the GPF, because I`ve never been to a figure skating competition. I know that it will be hard for them to qualify.

I am! It was really fun last year because you also have the time to see a lot of the city & if I get Elena & Ruslan, that's a bonus. (I think I'm also going to Euros...)

I am practically ALMOST green with envy. Please go enjoy and bring back lots and I do mean lots of reports and pics if you can :)

That`s cool! I wish I could go to Euros, though. Well, maybe next time. I`m not expecting Elena and Ruslan to qualify, though. They were really lucky last year and especially Elena seems to be a skater who gets in form later in the season.
 
Sometimes I wish Europe were closer to me...
Is anyone going to Beijing? Ruslena, Mao, Javi, Misha, Sui-Han, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Yeah, exactly it's a fun event either way & tbh I'm more fussed about Ruslena winning Nats & doing well at Euros & Worlds than making GPF. It would be great to meet up if you're there though, it's nice to be able to put faces to screen names!

Actually I/K can't beat anyone cause they won't compete ( tongue in cheek here)
Anyway we have to just wait and see what happens, with I/Z. I believe in them, but maybe it would be better if they won medals at Euros and Worlds instead. And I generally believe that these two can surprise a lot of people and turn a lot of heads

Just bought tickets for GPF, so Elena and Ruslan have no moral right not to qualify anymore :laugh: Seriously, I think they will be there.

I think they will do great! I believe in this team. Yeah they may have gotten lucky to make the GPF last year but they weren't even in the conversation. We have some more ranking points and some good rep and programs they believe in:) are we any closer to the open test skates?!

I bought my ticket to the GPF! I`m so excited to see a live figure skating competition for the first time. :cheer:
