Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Was Oliver Shoenfelder dark haired when he danced to Frida? Or was any of the russian dancers last year dark haired when they dance the paso doble?
Or is Ruslan supposed to grow a belly as well to look like Rivera.. in a day after the SD where he will be dancing to British music

To call a guy's haircut girly is not a humble opinion , it's an attack. I could argue that Ivan looks funny and you wouldn't like it.And I'd certainly wouldn't do it in his thread

I think they are going for a modern look this year, which fits their programs. I like the haircut and it suits him very well. My only question is if it was again Elena`s hairdresser who cut Ruslan`s hair and if she was again present to make sure that his new haircut fulfills her standards.

I think the photo is not from the hairdresser but from the costume designer's place :)
And something tells me that a lot of people didn't pay attention to Najarro's interview and don't know it's a modern type of choreography.

Ruslan has these angles on his face, this kind of style on him looks great, plus it's really fashionable lately.

Yeah, I think most people think it will be the typical Spanish-themed FD, ignoring the facts that Frida was Mexican and that Najarro told in his interview, that Ruslena are showing different styles in their FD.

EDIT: I also expect their costumes to be very modern, especially since Elena said in their last interview how much she detests those typical Waltz dresses, so I guess she won`t wear the typical disney princess dress for their SD.

Yep, quite a few boys in the school I work in have a similar style. It is one of the fashionable styles for young guys now. Also, tbh, 'girly' irritates me. All gendered insults irritate me actually.

I think he looks good!

Umm, was Frida's husband blond haired? As much as it looks stylish I don't find any coherence between this haircut and the LP image he has to convey.

I don't think he has to convey Rivera in his physical form. Otherwise, as alithia rightly mentioned, he should also have to grow a belly, then. I can't imagine what some "professionals" will have to say about his weight in that case.:drama: Also Elena, or any other skater for that matter, could not skate to Frida following the same logic because they all are lacking one of the most distinctive features of Frida, her famous eyebrows.;)

In fact, I'm hoping even their costumes will not follow Frida's costume

I hope Najarro helped them a little bit with ideas. It seems to me like he has a clear vision of the FD, so he could be a real help. As long as Elena`s costume doesn`t have too much fabric, it should be ok.

I would love the colors, so there you have Frida's touch as well. Not too much fabric, as you said, and designs in it.

Absolutely! Could that be a problem though? I mean there is a risk it might fall.

If she has her hair up you can weave it into the hairstyle to make it more secure.

She's the only skater today with the right attitude to pull off a Navkaband.

To: alithia
No need to be so aggressive to a point of view. I did not say a single bad thing about him as a person I was simply questioning the style. Elena's partner has look as manly as possible if they want to keep a stong image: a man and a woman. Otherwise they might lose on presentation. In Dance image is everything.
And when you speak about certain Russian site level- that's again your viewpoint only. This site is no different at times.

I remember an instagram post some time ago when she was trying to come up with an interesting hair style; https://instagram.com/p/6HsgvGqBgw/?taken-by=blackswanei. She alluded to flowers. That stylist also appears to work with braids a lot. So I think we will see flowers in the hair. I wonder if this means they'll be in full costumes for their open test skate?

The guys seem to be working their plans. Happy for them

Ruslan, looks so cool !! I'm just smiling to myself thinking, how cool ;)

One thing is to wear this hair at school- cool, no problem. Another is to portray a strong man character on the ice alongside the hot brunette. It has to be believable. Right at this moment I don't buy it. And that what irritates me as well as people who can't accept a different point of view. He does look good but I don't think it will win him kudos on the presentation.

Remember though, no matter how Diego looked, and many say he was butt ugly, he was a philanderer. He had a way with his women, within one year of marriage he was already having affairs. He cheated on her with her younger sister. Frida in fact said "He could be no one's husband". So maybe what they're going for is a metaphorical and not necessarily literal interpretation of their story. After all its just a dance. Najarro, also didn't want Lena to be overtly sexy, but rather to have a silent intensity. Some fans I think are going to be somewhat taken aback by this FD. Excited  Me, I can't wait to see another side of Lena and Ruslan.

And plenty of people thought that Ruslan would look ridiculous just standing next to Elena, but that was not the case. I don't think they're going to get marked down because you don't like his hair.

I would love to see Ruslan and Elena do a Frida and Diego inspired photoshoot for a magazine and recreate some of Frida's paintings.

So, according to the released announcement of the open test skates, it seems like Elena and Ruslan will be there, which means we will see their programs already in September. :)

It`s only 3 weeks until test skates, can`t wait!

Like other posters have already mentioned, Ruslan doesn`t need to be Diego`s identical twin to skate to Frida. It sounds like their goal will be to show Diego and Frida`s relationship.
