A long-awaited fan thread for a small but up-and-coming team! Though Spain only sent three skaters to worlds (Javier Fernandez and Sara Hurtado/Adrià Díaz), they had a world champion (some huge federations like the USFSA and the JSF didn't even do that!), and the rate at which Spanish skating has grown from not a factor to the home of a world champion is astounding. Their star dance team of Hurtado and Diaz, is rising through the ranks and placed just outside the top ten at worlds, not to mention being one of the few dance teams I've seen that is almost universally liked on GS! (I have not seen one person say they don't like H/D, and that's quite an accomplishment for a senior international team!) Here's to many more Spanish skating stars to come!

Marta García is another.

If you have any links pertaining to the Spanish team, please post them and I will edit the OP to include them.

And a special shout-out to CaroLiza_fan! Thank you so, so much for your hard work in compiling Marta Garcia's info-you did not need to do that, and I appreciate it so much that you took the time to get all that together. THANK YOU!

Don't forget about Marta García! Runner-up to Sonia in the past 2 Spanish Senior Championships, and Spanish Junior Champion the year before that.

(This is just a quick draft to get Marta into the discussion. A more detailed version will follow! ;) )

Marta García

Marta Maria GARCÍA ORGE is a Ladies Singles skater who represents Spain. She was born on 13[SUP]th[/SUP] November 1993 in Seville, Andalucía, Spain.

She is the 2012 Spanish Junior Ladies Champion.

Although she was born in the far south of the Iberian Peninsula, Marta’s home town is actually in the far north, in the Basque Country. So, it is hardly surprising that the first National Championships that she competed in at Novice level were actually the Andorran Championships. That said, when you look at the results, nearly all the current top Spanish skaters were there too! (Javier Fernandez, Javier Raya, Adria Diaz, Sara Hurtado, Celia Robledo, Luis Fenero…)

Marta won her first international gold medal at the Moreno Cup in 2007. However, somewhat perversely, this was actually with the lowest total score in her Novice career. The reason for this is that there was no Short Programme at this competition.

The following year, Marta started what turned out to be a very long career at Junior level. She made her Junior Grand Prix debut at her home round in Madrid in September 2008, and then five months later got her first taste of a major championship at the EYOF.

After finishing 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] in the Spanish Junior Championships on 3 occasions, Marta finally won the title in the 2012-13 season. She moved up to Senior level the following year, and again finished 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] at Nationals! Although she finished 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] this season as well, the difference is that she won the Short Programme.

So, hopefully this is a good sign for the future.

The Personal Best and Season Best scores that the ISU uses for a skater only take into consideration certain competitions. For example, they do not take into consideration domestic competitions, such as Sectional, Regional or National Championships.

The table below takes into consideration all the events that the skater has taken part in. These scores are referred to as “Absolute Personal Best” and “Absolute Season’s Best” so as to distinguish them from the scores recorded by the ISU.

Just to let you know that I have updated Marta García's mini Fan Fest post.

But, be warned. I have not finished gathering together the videos of her. There are just so many videos of people called "Marta García" that I needed to take a break!

i am learning how to create table thanks to Carolizafan! and my admiration for your hard work increased significantly so dont be surprised if you see a table similar to yours:biggrin: :cheer:

Awww, matmuh! Thank you so much for your kind words. They really mean a lot!

I have seen the Fan Fest threads you have been creating over the past few weeks, and I absolutely love them! That was a great idea integrating the video links into the results tables!

Anyway, just to let you know that I have started the Fan Fest thread I promised for Sonia Lafuente.

http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?55491

And even when I was making out that initial draft, I was finding out things that I never knew about Sonia. Like, the fact that she is not from mainland Spain, but rather is from one of the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria, to be precise). Which would explain why she was not at the 2006 Andorran Championships with all the other current top Spanish skaters. I also found results for her going right back to 2003!!!

Since Sonia has had a much longer career than I thought, it is taking me longer than expected to bring everything together. So, I have decided to post this initial draft of her Fan Fest now. But don’t worry, I will update it in stages over the next few weeks with results, videos, and other links. ;)

Until then, I hope you like what I have done so far.

I kept seeing pictures of this guy on Twitter & Instagram, so I finally looked him up & there's not much info to be found. He's Spanish, but he has a blog in Japanese & writes in Japanese on Twitter. Anyone know something about him?

http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00015024.htm
https://twitter.com/ErniMartinez
http://ameblo.jp/ernestomartinez/

His full name is Ernesto Martínez Ferrán, and he was born in 1998. So, that might help in filtering out people with the same name from your search results! ;)

Here is a link to his Competitive History:

Hope this helps

Just to let you know that I have updated Marta Garcia's mini Fan-Fest.

After discovering the FDMI Competitive History PDF's (index), I was all excited as they looked pretty comprehensive. However, when I compared the table in Marta's PDF to the table in my mini Fan-Fest for her, I found it was not as comprehensive as it seemed. Yes, I was able to find out that she competed in quite a few regional championships in Spain from the FDMI Bio, but it missed out an awful pile of her international competitions.

Anyway, I added in the results for those competitions that were not previously in the table. But, does anybody know what happened at the March 2014 Madrid Championships?

Because of time constraints (there were 23 competitions over 2 days), they don't hold an SP at the Madrid Championships. But when you click into the Senior Ladies FS page, it is still the starting order page, whereas all the other competitions have the results up. So, considering that Marta was the only entry, I wonder if this means that she withdrew, and the organisers just didn't bother updating the Senior Ladies pages to reflect this.

Moving onto the videos, and when you put the name "Marta Garcia" into YouTube, it comes up with "About 87,800 results".

:bang:

The videos of "our" Marta started to become very rare after about 15 pages, so I gave up looking after 25 pages (this was when the videos with "Marta Garcia" in the title ran out).

So, I apologise if I have missed any videos of "our" Marta.

Although Google didn't come up with too many articles about Marta, I have also added in links to the two that I did find.

I think that is Marta's mini Fan-Fest completely up-to-date now. If anybody knows of anything that has been missed, please let me know!

Javier Raya is on the list for US Classic
http://www.isuresults.com/events/cat00028394.htm

Not sure if he has been there all along, but he is there now, so good luck to him. I would love to see Spain use up at least one of their other spots this year...then again i would love for Spain, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to all use all their slots, but that may not happen.

Elizabet is at US Classic as well, so Raya should have good support and such with him. Hopefully he will get a warm and loving reception.

It seems that Javier Raya will be coached full-time now by Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson. His goals are a top-12 finish at the 2016 Euros, and he wants to qualify for the final at Worlds in Boston. I remember how hard he tried to qualify just to make it to Worlds last season, and he couldn't get the TES minimum...between that and Fernandez's success, it must be huge motivation for him to want to do better. Good luck to him.

http://www.hieloespanol.es/1/javier...ca_de_un_salto_en_sus_resultados_2077754.html

Great news for him! Hopefully he'll finally get his 4T training full-time in Canada, he'll have an amazing team working with him. Seems like, aside from getting good results, he wants to help keep the spots Spain has for Euros :) If he does go to Boston (cheering for him to do it), then we'll see Brian at the K&C 4 times

:hijacked: no! you are forgetting Elizabet! and maybe Alaine too
about Raya, i hope he will have better season and go to worlds, he tried so hard last season :cheer:

Of course! And he should be there with Sonia too (though I don't remember seeing him at Euros w/ her. I was just talking about the guys, but you're right, we'll see a lot of Brian this season. He's now the coach of all of Team Spain's top single skaters.
Back on topic, I've got a question. If Javier (Raya) happens to win the US Classic (it won't be easy but there's a chance) then he'll be the first substitute for a GP event? I really hope he does, it would be great to see more Spanish skaters in the Circuit, with Javier (Fernandez) and Sara and Adri. :cheer: Although we'll still see him both at the U.S. Classic and Autumn Classic.

Wow! Raya! Really hope his 4T. Wish him and Spain team the best of luck this season! Go! :cheer:
About Brian, we should count the times when he’ll appear on K&C this season! Probably he’s No.1!

And sorry, if I missed the information, Javi (Fernandez) has come back to Toronto? And his first competition is JO?
