Random Figure Skating Questions

People....Do you still watch American Idol??? I'm watching it right now and it's just not good. I really think this show needs to be over. Just like Dancing With the Stars. You can only use the same formula for a limited time before it becomes stale and IMO. They've reached their quota......I'm done. :drama:

Hi there.
During 90's and on, were there any skaters who used The Piano OST? The movie was a big success and the music is beautiful so there must have been some.
I only know Delobel and Schoenfelder's FD and it was beautiful. Do you know any others?

Jason Brown had a lovely program to selections from the Piano this year. He was injured before his second GP, so did not perform it that often or to its potential. Perhaps he will keep it.

What's the rule for interruptions and restarting a dance? I'm thinking of Paradis/Oulette, who had a major costume malfunction mid free skate at 4CC and weren't allowed to restart. They handled themselves really well and leapt right back into things, but they lost a whole lift and of the course the -3 deduction too.

See Rule 515 in the current ISU rulebook. I haven't seen the event, but I hope that answers your question.

Why do some skaters do the triple flip if they're gonna get an edge call on it? Like, why not just do a lutz and take the extra points?

1) Sometimes they do both. If they're already doing lutzes, they'd have to change the flip for a lower valued jump.

2) They may be more consistent at rotating and landing the jump from a flip approach than from holding the counterrotated back outside edge without a rotation into the jump before takeoff.

If you have examples of skaters who are more consistent at lutzes but choosing to do more flips despite edge calls, then I don't know the answer.

Thank you! I'm still a little confused. The rulebook says that...

"If a Competitor gets injured during the performance or another adverse condition related to him or his equipment (such as health problems or
unexpected damage to his/their clothing or equipment) impedes his/their skating, the Competitor/s must stop skating. If he/they don’t stop, they will
be ordered to do so by an acoustic signal of the Referee. a) If the adverse conditions can be remedied without delay and the Competitor/s resumes skating his/their program without reporting to the Referee, the Referee will apply a deduction for interruption as per Rule 353, paragraph 1.n) depending on the duration of the interruption. This time period commences immediately after the Competitor/s stops performing the program or is ordered to do so by the Referee, whichever is earlier. During this time period, the Competitor’s music will continue playing. If the Competitor/s does not resume skating his/their program within forty (40) seconds, he/they shall be considered withdrawn..."

Basically what happened was that Elisabeth's halter clasp came unclasped (as far as I can tell) and her dress nearly fell off. Francois-Xavier fixed the clasp and skated over the referee, who wouldn't let them restart/pause the music, so they leapt back into the program and finished from there. Was that because he fixed the clasp first and then told the referee? Or is that because it's an condition that can be remedied without delay (well, there was about 30 seconds delay, but not long) and therefore the music keeps playing and doesn't *need* to stop?

I really have no idea. My only guess is that the problem was already fixed when they went to the ref so there was no point in stopping at that point.

well, I finally pick up the courage to pop this question, which is potentially an epitome of a stupid question, but this move is becoming so popular and as spectacular as it looks it highly disturbs me every time I see it... it looks utterly painful...
Do the male dancers wear some sort of protection on their thighs for this sort of lifts??? https://it.pinterest.com/pin/123567583504048735/
Sorry IF this has already been asked, just simply direct me to the answer...

A lutz is a takeoff from the back outside edge... it's can be hard to see sometimes, but it seems that some skaters are able to dig the outside front edge in with the back outside edge off the ice... does this warrent an edge call? It seems to me that sometimes this is called and sometimes not.

I was wondering if anyone ever read this Challenger series document because for a 3rd year in a row there is this one and the same misspelling at one of the headings.

This is from 2014.

This is from 2015.
http://static.isu.org/media/190985/...-2015-16-communicatin-version-jan-20-2015.pdf

And this was published yesterday.
http://static.isu.org/media/292152/1994-challenger-series-2016-17.pdf

What do you think, will the same misspelling be in this document in 2025? Assuming that we will still have a Challenger series.

I looked at the Challenger series document, and darned if I could find a spelling mistake. Is it a missing apostrophe?

MIMIMUM

should be Minimum, yes?

Or are there othere errors?

Boy, you guys have sharp eyes. In other parts of the document, they do spell minimum correctly.

There is actually a missing apostrophe after the s in 10. OFFICIALS REMUNERATION. But I'd consider that more a grammar/word usage error than a spelling error.

I think the woman looks more like Meryl Davis than Jamie Sale, but distorted by her facial expression and the rotational forces.
