2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

I did not bite for KC large because I am strongly considering Helsinki

I am thinking about doing Helsinki too. It should be SO exciting. I think I'm going off the deep end and really becoming a skating junkie.

Thx for catching that the wording has been changed from "Wednesday" to "soon."

Given TCC's track record, "soon" could mean quite a delay .... although at least we know the announcement can come no later than Apr 22, when the comp starts .

In early Jan, TCC officially had said that the team members (other than the men and ladies from the fan voting) would be announced "soon." "Soon" turned out to be almost two months later . Team North America was not announced until Feb 29, and the other teams even later :bang:.

My Bad...... thought the voting would end 6 days AFTER worlds.......

Not your fault, Chris.
Early on, the official TCC language had said that the voting would end the week after Worlds.
Another instance of TCC changing its tune along the way.

So Rika Hango made it, right?

I have a question for people who saw her in person at Worlds. On TV her Riverdance program was totally captivating. But some of the reports from Worlds were not as enthusiastic. Do you think that this is one of those programs that comes across better on TV? I wondered if maybe seeing a lone skater doing the steps of an Irish jig from 200 feet away loses some clarity and detail. (?)

I have now seen that program live maybe three or four times in practice and in comp and of course on TV. I love it. On TV, you have the benefit of getting all the right camera angles, of course, but in the arena, you can feel the energy of the crowd and HER projection to the audience. Remember when Ashely W did her swan program and danced for a few seconds on her toes like a ballet dancer and the crowd went wild? Same effect here when Rika does her Irish dancing....People love Riverdance all over the world.....they identify with the music and Rika's interpretation of it. Nothing against Evgenia, but her music does nothing for me personally. People do identify with Radio's "Titanic" program. And of course Mirai's great Gatsby....and double of course the Shib's FD. Energy Energy Energy. The Shibs will always bring more people (who are like me and there for the performance) into an arena than the French team.
Chris who hopes to see Rika at Spokane just one more time....all three of us in the audience will go wild!

Let's just sit back and enjoy the skating.
Exactly. I hope they all do a great job and skate well.....after dodging mice and sitting in a torture chamber seat for a week and being bullied around by security at airports and at the arena (a crotch search? Really?) I just want to have fun.
Fair warning again. The seats at the Spokane Arena are plastic and hard. Bring a cushion. If you forget, there is a big second hand clothing store across the street with pillows. They sold out at Nats 2007 and 2010.

Rika's energy was infectious in the arena. Great program! I was definitely on my feet afterwards.

I've never seen so many rodents as I did in my days in Boston last week! :noshake:

EWWWW Are you serious??

Mice around the arena, rats scurrying across alleys and sidewalks... I was getting used to it. Never seen rodents at that level before, at least not in the places I've visited. This was all right downtown in Boston, TD Garden area and Back Bay.

Absolutely disgusting! We have the Save Mart Center here in Clovis, Ca. We had Stars On Ice come to town and Sasha Cohen was on our local news saying how much the skaters loved our new Arena. Now, I don't know if things will change as the Arena gets older but, I would have been grossed out if had seen rats anywhere. The Arena in Phoenix is also really nice by the way.

Ugh, I didn't notice. Some of the subways were really dirty, so not that surprising really.

Well to bring it back to topic -- Spokane doesn't have a rodent problem. At least as far as I know...

I only ever saw two mice on my whole trip - one near a McDonalds in Colorado Springs and one in a subway in Washington DC. At least the T-stations in Boston didn't smell like bathrooms like the ones in New York. I did not want to think about why that might have been.

I'm pretty sure that, as predicted, Max lost out to Adam in the popularity contest. Oh well.
