What is the consensus on Virtue/Moir now?

I imagine all ice dance fans and general FS fans have seen their programs by now and can better form an opinion on their bid for a third Olympics. It is clear they feel they can challenge for gold. They have that as their true goal. Innovators in skating are very rare and while we would all agree Torvill and Dean were truly innovators and brilliant choreographers - even they fell short of judges expectations. Personally I thought they were fabulous in their second and final Olympics and I never liked Grishuk with any partner. I hated Requiem and ice dance in general in those crazy days of pretentious programs.

I think V/M were and are wonderful and I love the beautiful edges and pure moments they gave us. Were they so far above the rest? Well that depends which Olympics. This third bid just makes me feel they miss the competition and training and still they feel they are gold medal material.

I think it unlikely and after seeing their programs tho I feel they still are great and I liked very much what they offered. But if they came back because they still have something more to say as it was put- I don't think so. Next year I could be of a different mind.

Were you bowled over? I could not get the audio in the free dance- if there is a working link please post it. So I watched without music and I liked it very much. I like them- I always have but I think they felt they deserved a second gold and still want to prove they are at least better than Pasha and whoever. I feel it is their pride not a desire nor an ability to make earth shattering ice dance.

What is the general consensus? I admit I watch maybe 6 teams and I can never decide who is best. Sometimes I feel it is simple dance and too subjective to be a sport. Yes they are more like athletes than ever in this discipline but for me it comes down always to who I enjoy the most.

I loved the SD because I think they handled Prince well and the FD was well classic V/M. Can't argue with that. But something to say that is different artistically. Um no. It is I think all about legacy and a second gold putting them in the best of all time category.

Your thoughts?

Disappointed with their FD this season (at least at the moment) because I wanted something more out of the box and avant garde for them. Give me more 2013 sexy Carmen!!!!

The balance of skating skills is in Tessa and Scott's favor, but I believe - unpopular opinion - Gabby and Guillaume have better chemistry. Best chemistry in the world aside from Hubbell/Donohue, IMO. Even when P/C keep doing kind of the same thing, it never stops being fresh and gorgeous. In part because Cizeron might be the best on-ice actor ever. While I acknowledge the superiority of V/M and D/W in the majority of areas, for me P/C are my favorite to watch over and over again.

So far they haven't done anything to hurt themselves. I think they will be in the mix.

.

Whatever I don´t like the FD of V/M, the SD is better and I think they skated really well considering that was their first competition after the break.

all these threads... :rolleye:

I expect big fan wars between Papadakis/Cizeron's and Virtue/Moir's fans! And it will be FUN!

The SD is awesome, something they have never done, yet suits them perfectly. At Autumn Classic it was still rough and with some glitches, but the potential is there.
The FD isn't what I would have wanted them to do, and I don't particularly like it (maybe it will grow on me/improve over the season), but they said they wanted to do something different and that program IS different than any previous FD of theirs: It's in the same "romantic-pop-ballad with a touch of contemporary dance" family as 99%of Marie-France's programs and it's very similar to most of their exhibitions, so it looks like the same old stuff, but they are right that is "new" to them as a FD. So I'll forgive them for now (hoping for a better and more innovative FD next season).
I don't know whether they are the best ice dancers ever (and I'm not sure it's even possible to determine such a thing), but they are darn good! I think they came back because they always had in mind to continue until 2018 (considering their ages it seems normal). After Sochi they needed to find their motivation again, but I don't think they are back because they want a second Olympic gold (although I'm sure they want it very much), I believe they are back to finish their journey as ice dancers.
Anyway having the guts to go for a comeback will always have my consensus, and in their case I think they could end up having also the judges'.

People, give them some time, please! Can't we just enjoy the development of the teams throughout the season? I'm excited about it, no matter who wins. And I'm pleased that we have such stellar teams to follow.

They're better than I thought they were going to be this fall. Actually, I think they're skating better than in 2014. It'll probably be between them and P/C for the gold in 2018, and I'm not impressed with P/C's current FD.

Guillaume has that artistic look -not necessarily a romantic leading man, In fact even when he is trying to be romantic you don't get a sense of genuine I love the woman or romancing the female but more of an artistic, dramatic ind of connection. He presents her well and he has the eyes, the stares and body line - like a dancer who might not even be romantically even remotely interested in the partner but it works, there is a great tension - great acting.

I, like many others have already expressed, don't really care for their free dance this season, however I'm loving the Prince short dance. It's probably the lone hip hop number that's impressed me so far.

I saw the FD live : it is very beautiful. they skate so much on the music (which now I know is much more noticeable live than on streaming) that the whole crowd (yes, I admit sympathetic and Canadian but mind you half of it came from Japan) were glued to every note, every movement. I felt that in the last 30-45 seconds they were out of breath but that's normal at this point of the season. Brief, I was impressed. The only team at ACI that conveyed deep emotion to the audience.

they have a better fd than the French who are mostly recycling elements from their previous fd's they should have no real competition this year honestly their SD is head and shoulders above the rest only Gilles and Poirier come close anyway at worlds Canada has a judge this year so they will have every opportunity to fight for the win.

People are bashing them for showing nothing new but I think their programs at the moment still look better than the monotonous French.
