2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

I do not see Tessa Hong in the pictures of the High Performance Camp. Does anyone have an update on her? Is she now back with Frank?

The more naked figure skaters, the better. The sport is tough as heck and they hide the difficulty under pretty costumes far too often. Naked = gritty and real. I'm into it.

Interesting thing about that issue is that you see how the different athletes are optimized for their respective sports.

The trend I see in Olympic figure skaters is thin (but fit) arms, ripped mid-sections and thick, muscular legs (for jumping I assume).

As for Wagner, well - take one look at her Instagram feed and you see she certainly hasn't been shy lately about her body...

I would not say this is a trend but what you need to suceed as a top singles or pairs skaters.

You use your arms when entering and exiting jumps and having strong shoulders is a must - strong shoulders and fit arms are tied together. Note: shoulder injuries are not uncommon wirh singles/pairs skaters which I used to think was strange until I learned the why.

For overall stability, especially on spins and jumps, you need a super strong core, hence the ripped mid-section.

Once you start doing triples, the quad muscles in the legs really start to develop. As a result, most skaters doing the big jumps will have those pronounced leg muscles.

I agree, it is very interesting. Your description is very similar to the builds of tennis players, who rely heavily on their legs to move about the court.

I know at least TSL has reported she's back with Frank. As Dave put it; the last two Olympics Frank was able to take his first time student all the way to 4th at the Olympics. Would be a feat to pull off something like that 3 Olympics in a row!

Tessa certainly has the raw talent to go far and she already has a relationship with Frank so we'll see...

It is really concerning that she's not at ISP. She was definately there last year. She's not listed at either Skate Detroit or Glacier Falls. She needs to debut her programs soon if she wants a slot at JGP.

Right now I think Starr and Audrey have secured their slots. If Kaitlyn does well in a few weeks, she'll get a slot too. The jury's out for the rest. I hope that Ashley Lin can work the bugs out of her program. She really is talented.

nice fluff piece with Ashley wagner and shae lynn bourne on her new la la land FS. really cool to hear how a program comes together from a choreographer's stand point and all the work that goes into it...i'm really looking forward to seeing the finished piece and whether or not she will follow emma stone's character for her dress.

^^ that is an awesome fluff piece. I can't wait to see the program; I think it'll be full of the drama and emotion that Ashley can convey. I loved Shae-Lynne's remarks and the light she sheds on the process.

I doubt that it will happen for a 3rd time with Tessa. Gracie and Mirai were already established as skaters and National Senior medalists and contenders to make the Olympic team while Tessa has barely competed internationally and with limited success.

Jammers, I'm inclined to agree. I would probably have Tessa in the conversation for the team at his point, but Mirai and Gracie both had much larger and longer resumes.

Who is listed for Glacier Falls? I only know Mariah is doing her short there.

Any updates on anyone?!??? Tyler pierce: injury over? Polina: underrotations under control? Gracie: music choice? (Remember last year she chose to announce her music in a different "cool" way, with pictures and the backing of john Wilson blades) Paige: how's it going with new coach?

We're all starving for information this summer!!!
