2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

Well Mirai just got credit for a fully rotated triple axel in the short (!!!!). It was def two footed and she had some other hiccups so she scored 63.81 - but she's on her way!

All the US women are pretty close after the short and all are in striking distant of 1st so it will be a fun battle in the long.

Yes Mirai! Fully rotated!!!

Hahahaha!!!! Who just watched mirai's interview after the sp for US figure skating ??? LOL. It's worth a watch! She's great. She was honest and funny.

I don't think she's missed a 3Z-3T or 2A-3T in some time... I think she hit both combos at every summer comp. She pretty much affirmed USFS "unofficial" decision to send her to SkAm.

Also, go GRANNY BRADIE. (Again, not everyone has to come to form at age 15 to matter...)

I thought Bradie was at a local event and was shocked to see that she was actually at an international event and placed ahead of Tuk.......That is a HUGE deal!!:bow:

Bradie did it indeed. She just made me an instant fan. Her FS finished 3rd at Lombardia, and she's 4th overall.:hap10:

The Cinderella program was perfectly cut and choreographed, to use the divergent moods from pieces of music, to stopping the clock !!:drama:, on to the swelling drama of the dance. Later I must see who choreographed. There was no resemblance to Mai Mihara's Cinderella last year.

BTW, if anyone thinks the most recent Cinderella movie, from whence this music came, is juniorish, I advise you to see it right away. What Kenneth Branagh did with the story is adult, gentle, inspiring. Can't recall the writer's name, Branagh directed. A really nice episode with a stag. :)

I loved the clock moment -- it was so unusual, and perfectly thematic... but I am glad it didn't strike 12 times!!

Honestly I think Mirai's candor is a breath of fresh air. That has always been her style with the media and it's nice to see someone be so authentic in her delivery.

I completely agree.....That was such an honest and refreshing review of her skate. No excuses and that's much better than pretending or whining about her performance.

:eeking::laugh: Yeah! Especially with how long those 12 strikes lasted in the movie!:drama:

She's mad at herself, which is a good sign. It means she very confident and determined.

Tara said that when you skate mad that's when you get the best result.

My dream lineup for 2018 is:
Karen (Who I personally think can get in the top 5 if she skates clean) :luv17:
Ashley:thumbsup::rock:
Mirai :love::love::love:

So is Mariah keeping her SP from last season or no? She skated to it today at International Classic.

Bradie seriously impressed me after I spent many words talking about how she has yet to impress me. No falls, fully rotated jumps, and I saw personality during that Cinderella program! It's the cheesiest Disneyest program ever, especially for a 19 year old, but it's endearing. If she repeats it at Skate America then she will be a real threat for the Olympic team. Her skating skills need work the most, IMO. Her footwork was the worst part of her program. But overall, consider me impressed!

She stated in a recent interview on the US Figure Skating YouTube channel that she had tried out some new short programs but they didn't work out, so she's going to keep this short.

I was surprised. Younger skaters sound more poised and articulate.

She wasn't being fake. She could say the typical "well I gave it my best and there were mistakes but I will try to do better in the long." response but instead she said what she truly thought. I am glad that she was not even excited to get the 3a fully ratified she wants it completely clean with positive goe. My favorite part is "you know the whole shebang..bye." :rofl:

I appreciate Mirai's honesty and bluntness. She's been in this game a long time, she knows what she wants. We've all heard the "I've tried my best, there were mistakes but I'll fight back in the long." It's like the automatic skater response. It's refreshing to see her personality come out.

I think Nagasu wants another shot at the Olympics and is determined not to get herself in a position similar to 2014 where she would get passed over again. That would mean strong efforts on the GP in particular. Hopefully for her own sake, she does not put too much pressure on herself, particularly with the 3A. As she is likely finding out, it's super easy to overthink things or get too excited once it's in the program.
