2018 US Men's Oly/World/4CC team announced

Sarah's body of work also included a World medal the year immediately prior, 2 straight GPF bronze medals, and a gold & silver on the GP circuit that season. Angela's body of work couldn't compete with that.

Ross' senior worlds was back in 2013 and he placed 14th. It isn't counted within the selection criteria and if it were, it would have reflected very badly on him.

Ross also went in 2011....He's a 2 time world team member and he was scored higher than Vincent who has never gone to Senior Worlds...That's why I think people are upset...Giving 6th place Jason the first alternate spot ahead of Ross is like salt in a wound....

Seriously, if Vincent Zhou hasn't URed, the tech panel would not been able to give him carrots.
Here you are blaming the tech panel for doing their job.

Vincent definitely URed some of the quads and the judges called it correctly. But...

He also landed a beauty of the most difficult quad anyone does--quad lutz--with a Rippon 3-toe on the end of it. It was perfectly clean. Even Nathan didn't attempt a quad lutz last night and, to my knowledge, no one else in the world does a Rippon 3T on the end of a 4Lz combo.

THAT is why he deserves to be on this Olympic team.

I'm disgusted. This is my country and figure skating is dying. People don't even think it's a real sport, and it's because of crap like this. Shame on USFSA, this was a crooked decision. Why is Jason Brown over Ross Miner as first alternate. It's unlikely an alternate will even be used anyways, this looks like pure politics. Clearly Miner and his coach are very disliked for whatever reason. It would be nice if USFSA had even an ounce of the respect that Japan has for the sport and for their nationals.

Jason get the alternate spot over miner because of the rest of this season. Look at the rest of the season and at their best scores throughout it and tell me again its unfair.

You can't deserve to go to the olympics for just ONE element that you do. That would be like saying A. Lozko should be sent to the olympics because she is the world's best spinner. Or that Jason Brown should get to go based on performance ability alone.

The selection criteria only go back one year. Anything that Ross did in 2011 doesn't count.

No, Vincent did not earn it, it was very much gifted.
4 quads is not big - he needs to rotate what he jumps, and he actually has prerotation issues as well. He lost 20 points on TES because he deserved to lose it, and he gained what, 15 points on PCS, compared to his international scores. He is still going to underrotate at the Olympics, and he is still not going to get these ludicrous PCS numbers.

USFSA wanted another quadster because they think Vincent is the future of the US skating and that was clear a long time ago, and that's all there is to it. They're gambling with his future though, because not all rewards are gifts, some are curses. Ah well, on their head.
From what I see Mr. Zhou actually delays the rotations in majority of his jumps, including his quads. Prerotation is your imagination.

Jason Brown had a lackluster season. I love him, but he has no quad and has struggled with 3A all season. He placed 6th at nationals and only got 1 grand prix medal. He did not make it on his own to the GPF, he got an alternate spot. That's not enough to snub Ross on both Worlds and Olympics. Ross placed 4 places higher than him at nationals the most recent data point.

If Jason Brown really earned it based on body of work, why wasn't Ashley Wagner named?

I dislike the complicated selection criteria. I've always thought US Nationals should be a "trials" for Olympic and World Team membership.

That said, looking at the selection process, the correct team was selected. Had I been a member of the committee, I would have chosen the same team.

Although I am not addressing the alternate issue at all...

I don't think it should count.....That's why I don't think Jason should be the first alternate. As Tonya H. said.......Ross outskated Jason Today!!!

In the fed's mind, Ross is the 7th best US Man.

That is what I most object to. The position of the USFSA is that their job is to determine who is the best man, the second best man, etc. It's not.

Their job is to determine who best satisfied the selection criteria.

(To tell the truth, I'm not sure that Ross is the seventh best skater in America.)

Wow! I thought that Miner would have get the 1st alternate at least. Or even a worlds spot.
But i'm ok with the OG team. Zhou have more potential and Rippon a better season.
And we can say what we want but US is the only big country where criterias were respected. Not like in Russia or Japan.

I think this shows that the USFSA had a list of people it wanted to send beforehand. The people who were on that list ticked certain boxes- medal contender (Chen); consistent/ strong competitive record (Rippon, Brown, [to a lesser extent] Aaron); young/ lots of potential (Zhou). As well as Ross performed here, he ticked none of those boxes for the USFSA, so he got dropped even though he placed 2nd. He must be terribly disappointed.

As others have said, I think it would have been fairer for the USFSA to send Zhou to the Olympics or Worlds. Doing so would've shown respect for Ross's excellent result at Nationals and given Vincent some more international experience. Too bad US Figure Skating didn't go that route, but you can't say that they weren't transparent about the criteria they used to select these teams.

It seems like not only is the criteria different for US men and women but it also differs from person to person. That is not good.
