2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Cool, 7 events.🤗

But if the 3-3 combo has now become a rule..... WOW and OH NO to all the other countries.☹️

Where do we know that from? So, essentially, if you‘re for whatever reasons unable to perform a 3-3 or maybe pop the second jump of the combo to a double, what is going to happen? No jumps for the sequence, deductions? I‘m a bit confused right now.

Well, I agree that it‘s hard not to get too excited but we really only have one post on twitter from a spectator claiming this. I don‘t say we should disregard it, not at all. Evgenia never jumps lutzes in her ex programs so this is a clear message. "I‘m aware of the issue and I‘m working very hard on it“ Yet, I‘d be careful on calling this witchcraft or something. A double isn‘t a triple yet and while I‘d love to have her rework her lutz this quickly, landing it in competitions is something else entirely. Still, she is doing a tremendous effort and I hope it works out for her!

You're absolutely right! the lutz is a great weapon and she knows it's her weakness so her wanting to work on it is commendable! it'll take some time for her to completely fix it; we'll see how it works out. I wonder if she wanted to fix it under Eteri but she never wanted her to work on it by fear of her to lose her monstrous consistency.

I have no idea if that’s a rule now or not but I don’t remember hearing about it...

It also to me represents a change in attitude. With Eteri it would be hidden in corners and never in any exhibitions whilst with Orser he has already said they are not going to hide it and she’s got it in an exhibition with the right edge even if it is just a double and she hasn’t worked her way up to a triple yet.

Yep, that's exactly what Brian said. :agree: It's nice to see that she clearly wants to be the best she can be, and Orser's helping her get there.

If Zhenya has actually done a clean 2Lz I’m going to be SO impressed with her. It’s been not even a month since she went to Toronto, and while a 2Lz in an EX is not a 3Lz in competition I think it’s a very promising beginning, especially in such a short time

Polina's jumps are always so beautiful. I wonder how she'll perform next season. I really want to see her do well. I hope her new coaching team is gonna make good music choices cause i always thought her music under Eteri was really good. (sorry for my limited english it's not my first language, i use very basic adjectives :slink: )

I thought her SP last year was really really good, I enjoyed the music and the costume and the choreography. But I also really disliked her FS, it just seemed like an afterthought.

I hope she gets two good programs this year and that she will finally shine and make it to Euros or Worlds :)

I haven‘t heard about it either, that‘s why I was a bit confused. Let‘s see. Anyone got some news?

I agree on everything! And personally, I‘m happy about it. I always wondered why they didn‘t call her on her lutz, it wouldn‘t have made a difference in her standings really if she got a ! more often or at least 0 in GOE. I can understand why some would feel upset because of this. But now? Nobody can say she‘s a cheat anymore because she‘s clearly shown that she acknowledges this weakness, doesn‘t intend to hide it anymore and works hard on it. This kind of attitude is very helpful as it shows her that having flaws is okay, that you don’t have to hide them and don‘t always need to be perfect either. She‘s working on a long-time career. As Orser said: „She doesn‘t have to stand on the top of every World Championship on the way to 2022“ They‘re working on the Olympics and even though I don‘t know how manageable this goal is, at least she‘s trying and getting a more healthy approach at competing, too.

Brian saying she doesn't have to win every competition on the way to Beijing is such a good mindset. I don't know where i saw Alina saying that but she said as soon as she comes out of the ice after a program where she's made few mistakes, Eteri would immediately tell her that she needs to work harder. The idea of making skaters believe there's no place for mistakes and only perfection is acceptable is kinda messed up. It's Eteri's way as she said in that one documentary "i teach them to hate losing to make them want to work harder" but it can mess you up psychologically especially since her girls are so young.
It's gonna be great watching Brian/Tracy with zhenya in the kiss & cry cause whether she keeps winning or doesn't perform as well as she usually does, we've already seen in the past that TCC teams knows how to uplift their skaters when they're not at their best.

First of all, your English is totally fine; no need to apologize at all!

And secondly, I love Polina‘s jumps, too. They have everything needed to get these GOEs. Height, flow, great landings, transitions... She just needs to land them consistently. She has done so in the past but recently, she started to pop some of them when under extreme pressure (e.g. Nationals). She‘s very elegant and artistic as well, so I‘m having my fingers crossed for good programs. I didn‘t like her FS last season so I‘ll hope this time she gets something better which she‘ll be able to connect fully to.

I saw Polina live at Nationals this past season. She is truly amazing! Great jumps and presentation, wonderful speed and flow (in SP, her free was a mess :(). I'm a bit worried about her because I don't trust Buyanova as a coach, but they at least have experience with coaching taller skaters, and Polina likely gets access to good specialists and medical assistance at CSKA. I think if she is healthy and motivated she will pull off any programs :)

By the way starting this season a quad is obligatory in FS for Tutberidze girls. The way is not fast, but you can not achieve the goal without charting the tasks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4qLjV1eiz0

Sasha must be such a strong girl! the way eteri yells at her for falling on a quad :rolleye: but in her interviews she always says she's a fierce and strict coach but that's how it should be, that's how results are achieved!
