2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

A strong statement. I mean her last SP was pretty good. I don't feel that her new SP is THAT much better.
Oh but it is THAT much better! It's way beyond "pretty good". And this is a 2-3 week old version in a training outfit at low quality and from the worst angle that even is partially obstructed. Yet I still like this much more than any performance of the last SP.

"Best junior SP I've ever seen" might be more accurate than "pretty good".

Come on y’all :)

I’m sure if Anastasiia missed the test skate for any nefarious reasons she’ll be dealt with accordingly. If the fed gives her any breaks it will be with good reason I’m sure and lets keep in mind to someone who has been done a few disfavors from said federation.

As far as I know..until she actually shows up and skates at a JGP event she can be withdrawn and entered into senior events instead. I’m anxious to see what they do and I’m desperately hoping they find a way to get her into senior events this year. I think it is not only where she belongs but where she will find the most success for herself and the Russian team itself.

I hope this is what had happened! I am anxious to see her new programmes and I hope to see them in GP Rostelecom! She really did make wise and unusual music choice:laugh:

Since Shayuki brought this topic up, this is the best junior SP I have ever seen :luv17:

If I remember correctly she and Zhenya both made comments implying there would be rule changes that would lessen Alina’s advantage. That was right after the Olympics but after Medvedexit, Eteri didn’t seem so vocal about rule changes.
in was at "2018 WC Press Conference Eteri Tutberidze, Alina Zagitova, Alexandra Trusova". When Alina and Sasha were present in late March.
Gorshkov has already mentioned new rules that are going to change in the next Congress. Eteri said that "nobody will allow us to backloads all of the jumps anymore".

And why wouldn’t they keep their Olympic winning strategy? .
because they knew how the rules were going to change.

run thru programs 10 times a day"
it's not how it works.

I don't really get the hate of spectators, I quite enjoyed it. If anyone pull it off, be organic with music and movement, it will be her.

Of course I would be happy to see her "character" programs, like last year's SP, she is just great at them. But I am absoletely ok with her doing such a program next year, in her first senior season (hopefully)

The comments were about the free programme, not the short. I agree that the short programme is better.

I now see what they meant by the music sounds like it was cut with an axe, it is very abrupt. The camera work is pretty bad tho so you can barely see the program itself so i'm gonna wait for her first competition to give an opinion!
god her ina bauer + 2A is beautiful

I find the squeaky noise in Kostorka's SP rather disturbing... maybe it's the poor quality of recording, I don't like that sound on my ears.

I think that high pitched noise might be the sound some of the comments were complaining about, but it is worth mentioning that apparently the sound system there wasn't amazing (for example people said that you couldn't understand what the announcer was saying when he introduced the skaters) so hopefully it won't be as jarring in actual competition.

If Trusova's 3Lz-3Lo only got a +4, what on earth gets a +5?! 3T-3T with no transitions or musicality by non-Russian ladies? :rolleye:

So now I’m really curious if Dasha has a program or two from Danill or if she left without them being completed. Considering the mixed reactions on some of his programs this year I just want to know if there are more out there

Ohhh, I thought it was some sort of actual protocols even though it wasn't judged
In an actual protocol, you almost would never get identical GOE from all of the judges. Some would give you +3 other +5 or even -1...
Sometimes when I'm bored I like to do the same. My own protocols. It's easy to do by using Scale of Values.

I've been saying all along that I believe 7 will get 2 spots, but lately I have been thinking they might decide to giving 8 girls initial spots and the highest 6 scorers get a second. This would solve the Tarakanova vs. Sinitsyna issue. Just give them both Canada and then they have 8 girls total with a spot, top 6 get a spot at the remaining 3 events. While I still believe giving 7 girls 2 spots is the best strategy (leaves room for 1 to bomb and 6 could still make it to the final), giving 8 initial spots would ensure that everyone who is deserving has at least one chance, and then the performances can determine the rest. And I believe we have 8 clearly deserving girls: everyone who has a spot so far+ Tarakanova and Sinitsyna.

Vasilieva is very talented but can never keeps together for a free skate. Guliakova doesn't get the PCS of the other girls and I think that plus her mistakes at the test skates will hold her down. I don't think either will get a spot unless one of the other girls bombs their first event and falls out of contention for the final, then the fed might decide to give the reserves a chance.
You may be right, but on the last season they haven't chose to put another two different skaters on the fourth event.
Think about it. With three winners and one second, they had the chance to hope for a 1°-2° podium at the fourth event, and give the last six spots at the four winners and two silver medalists. They didn't do it, and give two spots only at five skaters.

What is the fed priority ? Give a single chance to more skaters to be judged internationally, or take all the final spots ?
I don't know, but they have so many talented ladies, it may be a pity to give a chance to less.

Is there a thread where I can look up what day and time the first jgp is? Like, will it be early Thursday morning or Friday afternoon for the ladies sp? For an eastern time person.

it's not how it works.

Did they think this to be true for the SP? My understanding was that the rules are more strict than people anticipated especially for the SP. That they may have applied to the free skate but maybe not the short program.

And even if they knew it was coming, they probably started with the assumption that they should keep their strategies the same (because they won with them) and that they could rearrange the programs if needed. Based on the interviews with Daniil, he seems to be working on choreography year round. I’d assumed he had programs planned for several months ahead of time, maybe even before the Olympics had finished.

How does it work? I’m new to the sport. But I do believe there has been an interview with someone from Eteri’s team that mentioned they did 10 run thrus a day.

Check this page...it’s got all the JGP events :)

Just pick any event and then find the first post in that thread. For example the first post in the Bratislava JGP Ladies SP will have a blue link near the top that says “Time in other locations”.

I have a world clock on my phone and often just add cities of events from around the world to my list and it shows what time it is in several cities on my phone.

Once you can find an event thread here at GS all you need to do is check the first post for almost all important information. Protocols, entry list, times, etc...
