2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

At this point I think that RusFed may switch Vasilieva and Tarusina because Tarusina is more consistent than Vasilieva and thus better able to hold off Araki and Yelim in Ostrava. In Yerevan, Vasilieva will face Araki but not Yelim.

I know this is a bit overdue, but I felt like sharing thoughts now :D
My discovery this year was Anna Tarusina. I quite like the way she skates. In the JGP Bratislava I even liked her more than Scherbakova. I don't really understand the hype about Scherbakova yet. My favourite of the juniors is Kostornaya. While I think that Trusova is not a very expressive, I am always amazed by her abilities. Ahhhh, the juniors are sooo exciting.

Have to ask a question. Assuming Kostornaia, Shcherbakova, Trusova all stay with Eteri, keep their jumps into seniors and have no issues with puberty, given what happened last season with Kostantinova (seems people weren't happy with her going to worlds), would the RusFed actually allow an all-Eteri team at worlds etc? Genuinely curious here.

If RusFed does not, then Med's main issue and competition in the next seasons isn't even team Eteri ladies-it's the rest of the field, no?
Evgenia also represent Sambo-70, even with Orser. If they going to reward another school, right now that kind of choice can't be in her favor.

I would say the choice can't be in Eteri's favour here.
Rusfed supports Zhenya's coaching change, including financially (and that is a lot of money, specially if you read interviews of some reasonably top skaters on how the team financing is barely enough to survive). Rusfed made a bet on Zhenya's longevity, and imho they will support her Adelina style, to not prove themselves wrong. This does not mean that she can skate bad all season and still make it to Worlds, but for example if she is clean at rusnats, and Kostornaia and Shcherbakova (on same level they currently skate) are also clean, I can clearly see Zhenya being picked over those 2 (even if Zhenya goes back to a single 3Lz across 2 programs).

So my guess here is that for the next quad, rusfed will lobby a team of Zhenya - 1 Eteri girl - 1 girl from a different coach

Well, they have done 2 Eteri girls in the past as well, but I suppose they also need to support their other coaches and school, so I could definitely see it happen if there are results to back it up (although they did send Kostantinova to WC -_-)

has there been any news on whether zagitova will start/is training 3A or any quads? i wouldn't think eteri would leave her out of that since most of her other students are training and doing them.

I don't think she is capable of quads or 3A tbh. Plus this and next season are the adjustment seasons to her new body (not that much change but still) and adult mindset.
She just needs to be clean.

no. she won't. It's too late for Alina to train them.
Eteri simply won't let her do it. Because Alina is nowhere near ready for it.

I could imagine Rusfed maybe doing that because they want to prove that they can have a long-term star. She's a role model, she's mature, and she is dedicated to the sport for the long haul. While the constant rotation of different girls in and out of the top 3 is very good for the competitive depth of figure skating in Russia, people also like to get emotionally (and financially) invested in individual athletes and follow their careers.

But if Evgenia is getting outskated by girls training in Russia, I also wouldn't be surprised to see Rusfed be happy to pull her overseas training funding.

As for how powerful Eteri is, it will be interesting to see how the Junior Worlds selection goes and if she can get all 3 spots for her girls.

Nyet! Alina Zagitova is Olympic champion. when some of these younger Russian girls pass her by then and only then will Zagitova consider learning 3A or quads. No need for it now.

it's already too late. Same goes to Evgenia.
And unfortunately not all skaters are capable of learning 3A or quads.

Sure, it's possible. The point, for Evgenia, is not be outskated next year by those two and Alina, if everyone of them stay with Eteri, but we also better wait and see if some coach change may happen.
It's too early, right now.

If you guys wonder where the Russian test skates thread disappeared, it has been moved to the Competitions sections (National Events - Russia). It took me a while to find it and was frustrated because this thread shouldn't be lost.

Called it.

As for winning everything... Zhenya currently has the following advantages:
1. Her Lz unclear edge does not get called that much
2. She has a huge PCs cushion based on her rep and her #1 russian lady status.

Now, there is this simple thing: judges love consistency and reputation and don´t like losers. If she is not russian #1 or #2 at any given season, she will start getting much different scores.
Yep, this is the most important thing. Because she doesn't have much of a competitive advantage if she's not Russia's #1, especially if her flutz starts getting called(which I assume it would if she were to be Russia's #3 for instance).

Strange, considering that it's not a competition.

They hid the thread dedicated to a non-competition behind the paywall? Ok.

Boy reading this thread... should be require to read it while drinking... is mostly predictions of doom for Y and X skater...
