2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Eh, styling always makes a difference, especially for brand new ladies.

I didn't notice anything lacking in her makeup though.

I assume Ashley will be competing senior nationally, but she could very well end up on the junior worlds team, which wouldn't be bad for her.

Ting is the real talent though. Her jumps are so gorgeous when clean. I'm hoping that training with the Korean girls with Tom Z. will push her to improve her focus and concentration. That's what seems to be the issue. Even though she had such a messy LP, sending her a second JGP was the right decision. Every competition is a learning experience.

I'm stoked to see Pooja at Finlandia. But if her program/choreography has not improved drastically since her JGP event, then that weakness is going to be especially glaring against senior ladies. Hoping to see a lot of progress on that front.

What I mean is, without makeup under the light in the rink and in front of a TV camera, skaters look very pale or "unnatural" (even though it is counter intuitive). It's not that I love makeup, but to appear professional, you need to have some makeup that looks nice in front of a camera. It's all about perception.

If you compare how different Marin Honda looks with or without makeup, you know what I mean.

You know these are athletes and Kids this is not a Victoria's Secret Model try out. Maybe you could run a marathon equivalent and might need some extra make up. Give the girl a break. She did awesome in her competitive athletic debut.

And I absolutely mean this is a figure skating forum. It's not a forum by which kids with great skating skills and a lack of money fail because they can't afford a more gold laided costume and some person on the internet says they landed 5 triples but their make up was off. Fail. A kid with 1 triple and wins cause the costume was better.

This is true. I don't think people realize the glare that comes off the ice when the light hits it. Even the brightest smiles are washed out by the reflecting coming off the ice. I realize these skaters are young but, they are performing for judges and an audience and makeup truly helps expression reach out to the audience. Jennifer Robinson of Canada has very pale skin, beautiful dark hair, and the prettiest blue eyes. Without makeup she would have been washed out by the glare. If the ice is "Wet" and you're seated in certain area's it actually hurts you eyes. To me, makeup is part of the costume and overall theme. The skaters can take the makeup off when they change out of their costume.

Can someone tell me a bit about Megan WESSENBERG? I just saw her name on the Skate America line up and I've never heard of her. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know why Megan got the Skate America assignment? Her Ondrej Nepala score was 143.47.

Amber Glenn scored 166.25 at Lombardia, one of the highest scores so far for our ladies.

The SA spot is always decided in the first week of August. At that point Amber had a disasterous skate at Philly International.

Here are the protocols from Ondrej Nepala.

What happened to Gabby that she is being replaced by Mariah. Good break for Mariah - not to be mean but Japan must be disappointed they probably wanted Osmond or even Wagner or Nagasu to go with Bradie. Well hopefully Mariah takes this opportunity. She and Karen have to make their mark with Ashley and Mirai gone it would appear for the season and Gracie maybe stalking for Gold.

It makes no sense to me that Glenn was passed over for Skate America. Amber has a solid 3F 3T and great presence on the ice. Of course she sometimes has a bad skate like everyone else. But she has potential and needs more competitive experience, not punishment because she had one bad skate at a summer comp!

Amber is and always has been incredibly inconsistent. I’m a huge fan of her skating! But the inconsistency is wild.

That said, I see no reason to send Megan Wessenberg either. I would sooner send Pooja Kalyan, if she’s age-eligible, though that would probably be too much too soon for her.
