Alina Zagitova

Because she is such a sweetie, I tend to forget how tough this kid is.

She came back from a broken leg (and arm too I think?).

Alina first broke her arm, then her leg. She had to relearn how to walk and skate. All the while her mother couldn't be there for her, except over the phone. :sad21:

I'm pretty sure that Eteri kicked her out sometime after this, too. :(

After getting Eteri to take her back, Alina finally started her first junior international season. In a hand-me-down tutu. But that didn't matter, because Alina won almost everything!

Then, Alina went into her first senior season with a recycled FS and a SP that another skater had rejected. :scratch2: Again none of that mattered, because Alina made those leftover programs her own, threw down two amazing performances on Olympic ice, and transformed from an innocent white swan into a queen!
:yahoo:

What a fairy tale. Though it looked kind of bad at the time, in hindsight, Eteri making Alina reuse DQ was nothing short of genius. :clapper:

But wait! Alina's story isn't ending yet. After her Olympic victory, Alina was offered a life of luxury and ease doing advertisements with her puppy, but she chose to continue toiling in an ice rink. Why? A secret motivation that she refuses to share. So when her loyal fans see her practicing hard jumps that she doesn't need to win this season, our imaginations start going wild

What's the story about the Black Swan SP? Who was it rejected by?

I didn't think much of the program at the beginning of the season—I think it was a B.ESP commentator who noted that the contrast between her and Osmond only highlighted her lack of experience—but by Europeans, it had really grown on me and she learned to sell it beautifully. I can't imagine someone else with that program!

I like this fairytale, now I'm going to see the movie.

Not even The Girl in the Red Coat? ;)

These are words from Daniil in an interview. I forget the source, but there might be links in this fanfest or Yulia's.
When I joined the team 4 years ago, Yulia Lipnitskaya was still skating with us and she didn’t like the “Romeo and Juliet” program. She wasn’t feeling it, and Eteri asked me to look into it and do something. I was thinking for a long time, listening to different musical pieces, and when I came to “Black Swan”, I clearly envisioned the program, and how the transformer dress will look like. I decided to make a program about the transformation of a white swan into a black one. But at that time it was my first year working with Eteri, and my idea was refused. Not by Tutberidze, but by Yulia.

Hello Alina's friends!
Is anyone going to be in Vancouver on December 6-9?

Our friend Carrett (from USA) will be giving away pins with Alina's picture on it (on behalf on @teamzagitova). He is asking to meet him in or around Section 118, if you are going to be there. he also prepared a lot of toys , for juniors too.

Awesome! The pins are so cute, and I wish I were going. Unfortunately due to work and family obligations, I am unable to go this year. I am hoping many Alina fans show up though, to give her the support and love she deserves :). If any of you are going, would love to hear reports!

Yes!!!!! I’m going on the 8th so i’ll miss the short, but I’m looking forward to seeing Carmen live in her full glory. Thanks for the heads up about this! I’ll definitely swing by!

I feel like people are so quick to write Alina off when they’re talking about the new wave of (admitedly talented) girls doing quads and 3As. And saying things like her jump content won’t be able to match up with the young ones in the future? People seem to always group her with the slightly older bunch of skaters (Evgenia, Satoko etc.) when talking about her but tend to forget that her age group of girls are the same quad girls and she’s competed and trained with them, and also learned jumps with? Alina was already training for Quads in the past (and I guess also 3A) in her junior years, same as the other girls people love to pit her against. She only stopped because of the Olympic season and they decided to have her focus on that first. She’s not learning quads/3A from scratch; she’s just picking up where she left off. And while I love all the other skaters who are pushing technical boundaries in figure skating, people are really too quick to write her off. She has some ways to go in making that 3A or quads work and its a work in progress but her will to work harder despite being at the top of her game is something those people should really stop underestimating

Is there a specific time when your friend will be giving out pins? Lucky me my seat is in section 118 and I would love to have one of the pins. Please tell your friend thanks in advance and I will look for him
