Oh, no, Anna... what... happened? Poor girl. But I have no doubt that she‘ll leave this behind her and show her fighting spirit in the FS. She still has every chance in the world to get a medal. Good luck and don‘t be too sad, Anna! You did wonderfully all season long, this is just bad luck. But you will come back swinging in the FS and rock it. If she wins it, she can medal, even silver is still possible. But in the end I just hope she has a good skate she can be proud of and to see her smile. Placement doesn‘t really matter. Just her being happy. But I just wanted to say to all her fans: Don‘t give up yet. There‘s a fighting spirit in Anna despite her fragile look and if she wants something, she will get it. I will cheer for her and hope she does her best. And I truly believe she will! :)
 
Took me a little while to work out what to say...obviously this wasn't the day Anna wanted at all but I do think there are some little positives that can be taken from it.

1. Anna still has the 3rd highest PCS score in the SP, I think it shows just how much the judges like her and rewards her for the effort she made to stay in the program despite the errors.
2. She also pulled herself back from the error on the 2A (which looked like a fluke) and did a very nice 3F.
3. I know there were issues again with the 3Lz+3Lo but I don't think anyone can say she has 'lost' the combo given how many times she reeled it off in the warm-up. I actually think her issue with the combo in the SP is due to the fact she's working very hard on making sure she keeps a good edge on the 3Lz.

It's obvious this is a big learning experience for her, it's a much bigger crowd than there was at any of the JGPs and in general the pressure on her here is probably much higher than anything she's experienced before (particularly as she came in with people expecting her to be the one to give Sasha a run for her money).

I also think people are underestimating how difficult it is for these girls to go out and skate at what would be about 4 in the morning at home...I think Nastya mentioned in her interview the other day how much both she and Anna had struggled with jetlag at the earlier Canadian JGP. It's not really a surprise to me that the two girls who struggled more are also the two girls who have less muscle memory to fall back on (Anna because of her injury last year and Nastya because of her problems this summer) when competing under a lot of pressure/in a very difficult timezone.

I suppose the positive to take there is that Nastya (and Gumennik) both said that the FS in Richmond was much easier than the SP as their bodies had acclimatised more. Hopefully it will be the same here and Anna will be in a good position to be able to fight her way back up the ranks in the FS. I would imagine that a quad lutz is a relatively useful jump for that sort of thing!
 
Come on. Such things happen. Nobody can be perfect all the time and no skater has ever done no mistake. Anna has a gift for she skates with her heart, that can't be disrupted just by one unsuccesful skate. Anna is still among the best persons on the Earth and I love her :luv17:

Exactly. It's probably not the day Anna wanted but it's not the worst day in the world.
 
It broke my heart to see Anya crying yesterday... don't cry Anya! You are much stronger than any bad day. I know that this wasn't what we were expecting but there are some positives:
1) She's learned what it's like to fail at an important time. This means that she will be stronger with nerves in the future.
2) By going before Sasha in the free skate, she has the chance to get 4Lz-3T ratified to her name.
3) If she lands her quads, and has a good free skate, she has a chance of bronze.
4) She already has a good SB. Getting a bronze here would help her go senior next year but she has a higher SB than every Russian lady except Zagitova, Trusova, and Tuktamysheva.
5) She was so committed to her performance and landed a gorgeous 3F :luv17:
6) She's stronger at free skates than short programs anyway it seems, so she should be pretty good on Saturday :)


Anya has already faced so many setbacks, with breaking her arm and then breaking her leg, that she has proven that she's a fighter and can never be counted out. I know I didn't expect her to be landing 4Lz's in competition this year when she wasn't even skating in competition at this point last year. She's so mentally and physically strong that I know she is ready to fight on Saturday and to come back to medal. I believe in you, Anya! Go out and get that medal!
 
I really hope that now, without nothing to lose, she may put what happened and all the pressure aside, for catch up in glorious way in the free, whatever the final result may be.

It's all experience, fundament for the greater things to come.

Go Anna !!! Rise up and be proud :cheer:
 
It was really heart breaking to see Anna in tears after the short program.
I hope she will be able to revamp herself in the free.
 
It was sad to see her like this but it’s not the end of the world. Better here than at Nationals or Worlds. And now that she‘s in last place I‘m sure we‘ll see her fight with everything she‘s got in the FS. And Sasha is skating after her, I think, so Anna has a chance of getting the 4Lz-3T ratified to her name. She‘ll stand on that podium and we‘ll cheer even louder for her. She is a little fighter and she went through lots of hardship already. This SP wasn‘t her time to shine but I strongly believe the FS will. :) Go, Anna!! :cheer:
 
Good to see a lot of positive comments above. It is sad to see her disappointment, but Anna is robust (her delicate frame belies her strength) and will use this as a spur to self-appraisal and finding greater consistency.
Also she has wonderful support from Eteri, Sergei and Daniil, they know each other well (have been together for aeons) and no doubt they are working productively at ironing out her present rumples with the combo (perfect Khrustalnyi performance, remember!). It seems as though there are always those seeking to find fault and over-dramatise the slightest error. My opinion of the root of the unexpected slip-up with the 2A is simple tiredness. I think she could not find the immediate oomph. But she picked up well and twinkled like the star she is.

Also, to those criticising the timing of the travel, may I suggest that the skaters, coaching team and federation know as much as arbitrary commenters, if not more, about the pros and cons as we do, and make their decisions with forethought and purpose. There are all sorts of practicalities to consider, especially with such a big group. People also confuse "jetlag" with simply a tiring journey. As someone (EdRoz?) mentioned previously, jetlag effects may kick in only several days after arrival, and are usually more pronounced in the other direction, in any case.

Considering the occasion (important final), the two isolated errors and perhaps some weariness, I thought Anna delivered a lovely SP, her grace and levity shining all the way through. Awaiting tomorrow's elegant FS with great anticipation and faith!!

So sad. She seems to have some sort of a mental block with this new SP of hers... Which is a great shame since the SP itself is fantastic. Fingers crossed that she manages to figure it out eventually...

For now, can only hope that she has a successful FS performance.
 
Anna has been better at the FS all season long. Which is a shame since her SP is stunning and I like it more than the FS. But nothing is lost, she has some big elements in the FS.
 
Anna has been consistent all season long, so it was unfortunate that she had a bad skate yesterday. Hoping she rebounds in the FS and shows us what she is capable of.

Looking great! Those quads I saw seemed clean to me. But what do I know. Judging Anna‘s quads or jumps in general is quite hard because she rotates so quickly the jump is already over before you can investigate the landing. :laugh: But from what I‘ve seen here: She looks like she‘s determined because she realises she has nothing to lose. This might spur her on and we‘ll see her clean in the FS. Fingers crossed.
 
If you could just vote for the champion, my choice is Anna..
Such a little tender fairy, I want to give her all the toys, flowers and medals , just don’t cry anymore
