2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I think everybody can at least agree that the junior podium was 100% deserved! If Alena did not fall they would all be within ~1pt, their rivalry in the future will be insane to watch

Add 10pts for junior-senior PCS difference and the gap to Stasya is insane.

First of all, as far as I know ISU rules do not have to apply for nationals (nationals are not an ISU competition).
As for Evgenia vs Sofia - there are reasons to choose Sofia and reasons to choose Evgenia.
But Sofia does have a good case to go as #3 lady (if we look at Zagitova as #1 and Tuktamysheva as #2).

There are basically no reasons to chose Zhenya over Sonya THIS SEASON.
Samodurova outskated Medvedeva pretty much most of the season. Sending someone because the person did well one / two / 10 years ago is wrong. As someone said on another forum, "what you get for your past achievements is a pension. you get medals for skating well right here right now". It may sound a bit brutal, but this is how sport works, or at least should work.

At nationals, Sonya also beat Zhenya, and if scoring was fair, she would have also beaten Alina, and her margin over Zhenya would be much higher (to start with, subtract those lv4 rotations in SP, which are not even a matter of personal oppinion).

Same goes for Stanislava. She outskated Zhenya at nationals (we can discuss scoring, again, but clearly she skated better). During the season, both skated on same level.

If Zhenya is chosen over any of those 2 girls, it will be highly unfair.

What is fun is that I think we here care more about it than zhenya herself. She said it herself she came here with to thoughts either get a spot on the team and be happy or don't get a spot and have more time to train and get settled without the pressure.

You do understand that Stasya (Konstantinova) is the first senior lady at nationals and therefore set for the team?

I wouldn't count on that.
I'm not sure what RusFed will do - but personally, I don't think they will place here on the team.
They kinda have to place Zagitova and I think they will give a bye to Tuktamysheva.
Now, you have Stanislava, Evgenia and Sofia - It could go either way.

They have rules.

As for Stasya, remember how they sent her to both junior and senior worlds last year? ;)

I'm sorry but it's 100% secure. She actually already gave an Interview about her prospects at Europeans.

If it were up to me (which it isn’t) I would send Alina+ Liza + Sofia to Euro‘s and Alina + Liza + Konstantinova to Worlds. I would have Evgenia as first alternate for both.

Evgenia is one of my favorite skaters. Neither Sofia or Konstantinova’s skating does anything for me but they deserve to be rewarded for their season and nationals placement. Evgenia also deserves to be rewarded for winning the FS (among seniors). I feel like that would be a fair outcome. Otherwise assign Evgenia to WTT.

Where can I fill out an application to be the person that opens the door for skaters to enter or exit the ice. I’d be great for that job

This is unprecedented though. Has the world team ever been made up of skaters who all missed the podium at Nats?

It almost happened in the U. S. in 2008.

That is the part that is not completely clear to me. Is it a hard and fast rule of the Russian Federation that Konstantinova absolutely must be on the Worlds team no matter what? So there are only two spots to parcel out to the other contenders?

We can debate all we like, but come on, it's the Russian Federation. No such thing as a guarantee. Look how the judges held up Evgenia's PCS.

Because we are used to highly questionable choices and politicking here... I guess you need to be 2 levels above the rest like Team Eteri to escape.

I personally think Zhenya would do better with more training time away from the public eye (she really needs semi consistent -3t combos to be competitive at the top!) and could do well without the next big drama about Zagi VS Med. How about both get healthy and let them practice and struggle in peace?

There is actually only one place to parcel out. Two highest scoring senior girls have their spots, both Alina and Stasya.

Could you imagine the situation if Alina got lower PCS und Sofia would place higher? In that case they could easily lose three spots for the next year...

That would also be my opinion . That it would be great for zhenya to now trainaway from the pressure of new competitions, on the other hand I still wish to see those dresses and programms more than this time. So I hope she can and will keep those programms for next season , and complicate them when she is ready. Is it possible to have the same programms for 2 seasons if the first one is cut short? Or do they have to have different programms for each season?

This sounds like RusFed would be looking for loopholes so as not to send her. They're overjoyed she's #1 senior. She's going for sure.

ITA. I think continuing to make adjustments and just getting used to Brian O's technique would be better for her and to do it without public scrutiny.
