Watching the Gala. Is Zhurankov Valentina's press secretary for health matters? Now he is the first one to say out loud that Misha has suffered from sinusitis ever since August and December was just another serious exacerbation.

So surprising? Not. :rolleye:

Also, another serious exacerbation. Wonder how many of those happened behind doors.

Obviously the first one that landed him in hospital. But even from that video interview is was clear that the acute sinus pain was a "here we go again" for Misha.

Hi guys, well I’m thrilled and relieved with how the competition turned out for Misha. I was sooo nervous waiting for him to skate his free that I kind of had a hard time concentrating on all the other men lol. As I said in the competition forum, I am so proud of him, as I’m sure we all are. I was simply in awe of his strength and resilience during both performances. And I agree that his performance level for Carmen was his best so far. I can only imagine all the trauma and stress, both physical and mental, that he must have endured during the six days leading up to the competition. I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but I have an even higher level of admiration and respect for Misha. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him suddenly to become a consistent competitor, but hopefully this will be a learning experience for bringing his inner confidence, calm, and fighting spirit at competitions, and of course for treating his ENT issues.

Regarding his layout, there’s actually not a whole lot of time between now and Europeans, given his needed recovery time and the holidays. So I think it would be wise for him to work on the quad sal for Worlds when he’s (hopefully) healthier, and for Euros, to do one quad and two triple-triple combos (including one with the eu) with the axel and lutz. Personally, I think triple axels when done like Misha (and Han Yan :() are as or more beautiful/impressive than quads any day, and that the judges love a gorgeous triple axel-triple toe combo.

I am glad he is seems satisfied with his skate at nationals.
Keep healthy Misha and we will be waiting for you until world's.

I didn’t want to add to my over-long post above (sorry :)), and I know this is Misha’s fan thread, but since ladies was brought up I couldn’t resist expressing my admiration for Stasya and Evgenia (as I also did in their fan threads), who were my emotional favorites in the ladies competition. I love them both.

^Stanislava and Mika apart from being teammates share the ability to attract so much hate, quite remarkable considering how nice both are. Thought we might hear something by now- is he back in hospital... Meanwhile, a Merry Christmas everyone!

Would he be so sick as to require repeated hospitalisation? Tests, scans etc. should be on an outpatient basis.

Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating it on 25 December!

Depends. sometimes if multiple tests have to be performed doctors prefer to put patient in the hospital

Yes, we are really all just guessing here. There is such a thing as a day hospital where you come in for procedures and are allowed to go home at night and on weekends.

An interesting interview with Stasya. More evidence that Valentina as a coach is not nearly as soft as people generally believe. Not yelling and swearing does not equal soft as Stasya rightly points out. Valentina uses an individual approach to each student and is probably softer on some than on others.

I definitely tend to take out all of my worries and frustrations about Misha on Valentina, and it isn’t fair. She is clearly doing something right if one student is the highest-ranked senior lady at Nationals, and the other is the second highest-ranked senior man. Just curious: why hasn’t she had this kind of success with previous students?

Stasya seems like a lovely and hard-working person. I’m sorry to hear she also got sick whIle GPF was going on (all the Russian athletes did, apparently). I have to say, I’m concerned that she is doing three competitions in the second half of the season, especially Universiade right before Worlds. Hopefully the ongoing health scare with Misha has made the team extra cautious about competing too much in the future.

IIRC Valentina had a long career break to look after her sons, 5 year old Mika was in the first group of kids she took on after that break.

He was with her since he was 5? wow valentina is definetly a second mom.

^which makes it even more disappointing that his sinusitis wasnt taken seriously enough. Realistically, the recovery will be as long as was the neglect, more likely there wont be any major improvement until after the season ends, and possibly not till the end of his skating career. Its more about keeping it under control than a full recovery, sorry for being so pessimistic but i've never met anyone who managed to get rid of a chronic sinusitis. Keep wondering abt a decision on Euro and i guess their usual camp in Finland is out of question

It would be very interesting to hear some details on why she thought he might have potential when he caught her eye as a five year old! I think she’s said in interviews that she first noticed him in a public setting. He must have been totally adorable :), though that probably wasn’t the (only) reason lol.

Hope you’re all having a good holiday season!

I've heard it said a number of times she is good at recognising potential and also very straightforward with kids/parents when she doesn't see any. She sent her own sons to do something else with their lives pretty quickly
