That was a great task and she solved very smartly, but the little Russian team were in Korea not because of Evgenia's speech. I didn't see any result of her speech a lot of innocent athletes couldn't go after that! Interesting the Russians also don't think that was Evgenia's merit. If I right remember many Olympic champions ( not only Russian, but for ex Scott Hamilton signed a petition and they asked the IOC to change their decision..There was no result...
The whole point was that no one from Russia was gonna be allowed to compete because of sochi, even if an athlete did not even compete at sochi. Plus she talked about including OAR in the figure skating team event, because it was unclear whether that would be allowed. Her speech only influenced the IOC decision to be more lenient towards Russian athletes, which is a very big accomplishment. How many other athletes decided to go and stand up for their country?dance, dance, dance https://coub.com/view/1eunx6
Can you explain what this means?
Who is the cartoon character? Why is she interspersed with Zhenya skating?
Thanks.
:agree:
Zhenya was the one who went before the IOC. Zhenya was the one who successfully pleaded a case that athletes from Russia be permitted to compete.
I say that as a “Westerner” (boy I hate those designations and do not find them helpful). If “Westerners” on the IOC had not been convinced, there would have been no OAR at the games.
“What if’s” are pie in the sky. What if someone else had gone? Who knows, who caresWhat if Nathan Chen had skated a clean short? who knows, who cares.
To be unable to even acknowledge this simple fact. Like wow![]()
Well Evgenia can't tell IOC who to invite and who to not inviteThe whole point was that no one from Russia was gonna be allowed to compete because of sochi, even if an athlete did not even compete at sochi. I give a lot of credit to Zhenya for helping Russia even be in the Olympics and I know two people who also give her credit their names are Alina and Eteri. There careers are great because of the olympics. And the gold medal winning hockey team is also happy Russia was in the Olympics. ;![]()

OK. Maybe I'm wrong I remember wrongly but I followed that story so closely because I supported the Russian participation I read the Russian media, too. Can you show me a Russian or any article , an IOC official's statement which is prove Zhenya's influence in this matter?
Or a any thank from other athletes to Zhenya because of her role?
Don't get me wrong I'M not against Zhenya but this is totally new for me, I didn't heard this in this form.
I know that but the person who I commented to seems to thinks that those interactions or lack thereof and the tensions between eteri and zhenya ( as well as that in one foto zhenya was sitting away from the others)would be a good reason to say that zhenya should not be on the team cause alina apparently would then not be calm enough to skate clean.or at least that's what I got from those comments . Said author seemingly seems to forget the interactions between zhenya and alina at the gala. Both girls are ok with each other and are friendly with each other.Alina had just bombed her free skate at Russian Nationals I'm sure she was devastated and her coaches were unhappy so under no circumstances were they going to stop and talk to or look at Zhenya or anyone else. Nor would Zhenya expect them to talk to her or make eye contact with her at that time and place.
With all due respect, as well, when Evgenia appeared before the IOC, she stood there not just as an 18 year old "cute girl" - she stood there, a 2X WORLD CHAMPION, 2X EUROPEAN CHAMPION, 2X NATIONAL CHAMPION, 2X ISU GRAND PRIX FINAL CHAMPION, FORMER WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPION, and at that point, a gold medal favorite in the Olympic games at issue.
So maybe "cute girl" was not one of the things on her resume that the Russian Federation thought would make Evgenia persuasive....
In case the point STILL escapes you - I can spell it out, too: what was at stake there was whether there should be a ban on Russian athletes. Evgenia is exactly the kind that you want to put in front of the decisionmakers - a clean, accomplished athlete who was a (gold) medal contender at the Olympic games, and who would be directly, severely and irreparably prejudiced by an indiscriminate ban on all Russian athletes.
Yes, this article before the IOC session. I would like to see an article where her name was mentioned and say it as her merit. The Russians didn't praised her because of it. That would have been the best evidence.
Vitali Smirnov, Honorary President of the ROC: «We all said what we found necessary to say. Then we waited for a long time, for about two and a half hours. It took the IOC EB so much to discuss the issue. After this, the President personally invited the three of us. And we were made aware of the IOC EB decision. Obviously, it was difficult to make such a decision.»
Of course, Evgenia Medvedeva also gave a speech. In English, she sent an important message to the IOC EB members She refused to reveal what exactly she said at the press-conference. But it's important that it wasn't in vain. She came here and spoke for all the clean athletes. For the athletes who are supposed to win medals in the Olympics, let's say so. Knock on wood.
What happens soon is a cup in Moskau with Akatieva, Valieva, Kanysheva,.. and tons of other interesting juniors before the jrRusNats!
Like an actual competition with top level Russian Ladies! And a lot of girls we will see in

Yes, yes, yes! A great level of competition.
Akatieva's not in it. But Valieva, Usacheva, Kromykh, Kanysheva, Kostyuk, Shabotova, Frolova, and Chaplygina are all in juniors. And Sinitsyna, Safonova, Emelyanova, Fomina, Istomina, and Gracheva are all in seniors!![]()
Nota bene, it's funny that people from outside Russia appreciate more Evgenia's role in the IOC decision that the Russians do.
Probably here on JuniorTV, they have few livestream broadcastings scheduled for 12th and 13th: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7IvcuUJ4AH19WO4Om-44JA My Moscow connection send me this link this morning. That sounds great! I‘ll admit, I only know about half of the names of the girls competing but I‘ll be rooting for Kamila, Daria and little Alena! Is there a way to watch it?
And will our favorite junior trio compete somewhere before Junior Nats? I can‘t wait to see them again!

Thank you a lot! It’s great to have people with Moscow connections or simply more knowledge about upcoming national competitions because otherwise I wouldn’t even hear about them!I have only seen Eteri‘s new Juniors compete once and that was only Kamila and Daria without Maria Khromykh, so it‘s about time! Do we know when exactly the ladies will start?
