Mikhail Kolyada

I can see them disapproving Lambiel, but I can’t see them disapproving anybody else in Russia. People have been practically begging him to switch coaches for years now. Unless Valentina is indeed as favored by the fed as this forum thinks she is.

But even with Valentina's blessing would the Fed keep them together?

Alas, it's all wildly speculative and hearsay-ish at best.

Valentina is favored?
Her skaters have good SS and basics and get good PCS & reputation.

Please not Lambiel Misha :/ His skaters have major problems with 3A this season, Deniss at Europeans was... not good.

Lambiel is too close to Valentina as a coach in my opinion.

But whatever he wants to do, something needs to change. Maybe it's not even the coach?

But if he was willing to pay his way to change to Lambiel, why wouldn't the Fed approve? That makes no sense to me. And why wouldn't they approve of him moving around inside of Russia either? Who knows, maybe there's someone there who Misha would be willing to go. It seems that after all that's been said in the russian skating community about Misha, I hardly believe the Fed wouldn't approve of a change.
According to the insider, because they didn't think Lambiel would be an improvement on the current situation. And Misha did not request to move to anyone inside Russia. It's not a case of getting away from his current coach at all costs after all. He wants what he believes is a better option. If he comes up with a better idea than Lambiel within his price range they may approve and he may go.

Most of the time this is my how I see it. I think Misha might need some soul searching, and his team needs to think through their decisions a bit more.

But then who might that be? Probably someone in Europe, if he was willing to go to Lambiel, or inside of Russia. And well, maybe even the no from the Fed left him a bit unsatisfied. I just think there's a lot of wrong timing with the stuff that's happening this season. I kinda want it to just end.

Not to bring up the Olympics again, but I still wonder if he has come to terms with it, though his response yesterday was very mature. He could just be going through a typical quarter-life crisis, who knows.

I kinda want it to just end.

Same, I can hardly wait until it is over. Zero expectations for Worlds, other than curiosity about the flip (will he attempt it? Will it get called?). Hope he doesn't damage his reputation or motivation too much. Even if he knows the podium is out of reach, he still has to contend with the pressure to save 2-3 spots for the Russian men.

They definitely do get high PCS, but people on this forum paint her as someone whose skaters will always end up on national teams due to politicking. Maybe the Olympic School is getting favored, but I don't think Valentina herself is a Buyanova-type figure. At any rate, Misha gets asked about his coaching situation a lot in interviews, so I find it hard to believe that the Fed is keeping him from leaving her.

I have no idea. He may be willing to go to Raf for all we know, just not have the means to do so. And it has been discussed ad infinitum that nobody seems to be doing that great with men in Russia. And it's not like he can go to say Rukavicin or Sokolovskaya who already have their stars in Aliev and Samarin respectively.

That's some nightmare scenario.

We don't know how the training goes - if he can go clean there I would actually hate to change anything in his preparation/coach. They did great work with his programs this season and it's not like that doesn't show and that's why the judges reward it.

Maybe someone else goes to competitions with him? Idk

The internal judging with the ladies in Russia is generally disgraceful. I think Stasya certainly deserves her pcs in comparison, but they have turned a blind eye on UR with her as well in the past. It's not like she is the only one, but I guess if you have the reputation it sticks and everything gets noticed.

I don't know how anyone can call Misha overrated you see Kovtun and Samarins scores (and PCS!) in comparison.

No Rukavicin. God, NO!
See, if the forum hive mind cannot come up with a good idea for a coach, how should Misha? But at least people should stop blaming Misha for not wanting to change and come out of his comfort zone. He seems to be trying to change too many things at once if anything.

I don't think there are that many people blaming Misha. You should see he is trying his best and how much work they put into his programs.

Maybe an emergency solution: Change the FS music :dev2:

Trying new things at the very last minute seems to work best for misha this season, so you might be on to something.

I would be very appreciative if some kind soul would please translate Misha’s post FS interview with Tatjana for those of us who don’t understand Russian. Thank you in advance. :)

I think Tatjana will add English subtitles soon. He decided to add the flip because “why not” and he thinks he will do it for Worlds, too, since it worked out so well here. He isn’t sure what his layout will be—he will see how everything goes in practice. His wrist did hurt briefly when he returned from Minsk, but it feels better now. Regarding his psychological state, he did not feel the nerves he did in Minsk.

I think for Kolyada's level, only a coach like Rafael, Orser will be seen as improvement. The problem is of course- they dont come cheap.
Is Mishin an option?

I'd say no, with the stories around them--Misha turned down Mishin once, and ever since then there's no love lost between them. But not like active confrontation either, someone can correct on this. I just feel like, both of them are essentially in the same place, if they were to work together, that would have happened already.

Mishin is not an option full stop Mishin is always very negative about Mika even when he does well (like in Boston) they have some history and they will never work together. And there is no reason to believe that Mishin would be a better choice looking at his 'success' with Petrov etc
In Russia the only option I see is Urmanov and it won't be a bad one but nobody even mention him?
I hope we'll hear some news in the off-season. I'd hate to think that Mika won't even try a different training environment before his career is over, he is 24 after all. But it is to him to decide.
Looking at all the changes all the mistakes they make this season for us on the outside it is so hard to understand why as it is so easily to see that they need to simplify the layout and work on the things he used to do well 4T, 3A, 3lz & 3lz combo, leave experimenting for the off-season. But when you are in a middle of it sometimes it is hard to see clearly.
One thing is clear to me it is a tough job to be Mika fan this season :sad21:

Just a thought is it possible that so many jump issues this season in fact are due to Raf attempt to change his technique? To really work they ought to spend a long time on it as it was impossible, that 'intervention' caused more harm than good.
I don't remember him having so many tech problems before

Mika if you ever read this: Please do not go into despair this is a difficult season, it happens, it will pass, all will be well!!!:luv17:
