I know they shouldn't, but we all know that both Evgenia and Alina had said that it indeed affected them, at least for part of the season. I agree their close ones are very important, once again confirmed by both.

LOL, probably not, Trusova is unstoppable after all.
I also do think they never underestimate any competition and always want to show their best.
I don't know how important this competition is for their FFKM ranking: http://ffkm.ru/competitions/srating
But these smaller competitions are the ideal opportunity to test a different program content, have small changes here and there evaluated by the judges.

The Awesome Aces from Khrustalniy are the final two competitors, so they should be on the ice in about 2 hours from now.

National senior team is like 6 skaters or so. So even when 3A turn senior, there will still be spots in the team.
The team is much about funding, not about going to competitions. Russia pays quite a huge amount of money to the skaters who are in the team, and getting out of the team means you will sort of struggle. Yes, a skater like Zhenya can also make money in other ways, but still the team money is quite huge. I'm not quite sure about the sums, but skaters said it is not a small pay at all, something that enables you to save for an apartment in 2-3 years.

I'm not denying what you are saying, I agree that it's important. But what I said and what you said here are two different things :)

That's a little bit strange. Alina seemed as if she had enough confidence through the practice sessions and the competition and didn't look as someone who wanted to withdraw just a couple of days prior. Could it be that there was another reason for those thoughts? Did Eteri elaborate any further?

Nope, she just mentioned that it was very hard.
Some fans that wanted to give Alina gifts before Worlds also mentioned that Eteri was not happy, and Alina was not available.


There are many possible causes - injury, psychological issues, Alina's chronic knee pains, or something entirely different, or a combination.

from alina's interview:

"We don't communicate before competitions [with parents], but this time my little sister, she is 10, called me before the short program. And I am already putting the skates on. She asked: "How is it going?" I said it was all good, that i was getting ready for short program. And then she said: "Don't you dare falling!" My younger sister saying this to me! This motivated me a lot."

For me, this kind of confirm there were some major issues and the WD possibility was serious.

Interesting, as this also puts the long and tight hugs by Eteri Georgyena just after Alina leaving the ice in another view. Even Dudakov seemed more emotional than most.
We can start reading all the little signs and speculate to our heart's desires, but I'd rather wait for something official before coming to my conclusion.
Or we should respect the skater's privacy and just put anything other than the Gold Medal Alina won in the 2019 World Championships behind us.
That's probably a wish in vain, the sports tabloids, gossip magazines, and social media mobs will have a field day over any weakness, perceived or not, in Alina and #TeamTutberidze.

Oh, dear! It sounds serious based on the fact that even her family broke the "rule" and called her before the competition. Her sister's comment was cute and at the same time probably the exact thing Alina needed to hear. I am happy that everything turned out well of her and I hope she takes some time now and sorts her problems, whatever they are.
 
I think the speed of Alina’s growth spurt has likely been exaggerated a little in the media, looking at her ISU bio. She still isn’t a tall skater by any means, 5 feet 2 inches, and she was already just over 5 feet by the time the Olympics rolled around last year. I don’t know when she was last 4 feet 10 inches, but the 8 to 10 cms has probably been over two or three years and not just one at this point.

I don’t believe that. It would make her 5 feet 4 inches, and she’s not that tall if Evgenia isn’t. I would rather believe data than interviews. I know of elite gymnasts who like to say their height is 5 feet and they never quite reached it. They’re more like 4 feet 11 inches.

Well, based on many photos with other skaters she has grown at most 3cm since Olympics.
Her ISU Bio height was 156cm in February last year. If she had grown 8-10cm she would've been at least 164-166cm now. However, from photos yesterday we see that she is shorter than Zhenya (officially 159cm) and taller than Liz (officially 148cm). Those two are 19 years old and are very unlikely to be growing. We can therefore make a conclusion that Alina is between 148-159cm tall, which matches her current height in the ISU bio (158cm).
If you find this unconvincing, you can also check out her photos with Rika Kihira (154cm), Mai Mihara (156cm) and Kaori Sakamoto (158cm) from earlier this season. Alina is around the same height as these three ladies.
