Alina Zagitova

For me Alina has something special that sets her apart from the others: her humbleness.
This year we have seen her struggling in many competition and win in others, but she always had a very “critical spirit” toward her performances...that is remarkable, don’t forget she’s only a teenager...

That's one of the important parts of Alina's personality - never make others responsible for her own fate. When she makes a mistake, she maybe finds some quiet corner where she has a private weep, but then she gets up and does it again till she is satisfied.

Your first paragraph was really good but your last paragraph says it all. I'm still upset and disappointed with the international skating union for screwing around with Alina the way they did changing their rules for one skater after they allowed this rule in. I can't help but think it's a conspiracy against you know who the great coach. But the great Alina adjusted and still ended up winning the World Championships.

And because of the backloading change, she had even more difficult technical content in her Long Program this season.
She performed both 3Lz-3T and 3Lz-3Lo combinations.
And in spite of the 3Lz-3Lo causing her problems throughout the season, she never gave up on it.

That is what a champion does.

This! And she said so herself in many interviews. Her character is the character of every great sportsperson: always control your own fate, always strive for the best result, never give up and don't let anybody bring you down.

To judge by how she looked in the Champions on Ice shows, Alina is at the peak of her powers now. Almost fully grown, battle hardened and wise beyond belief. And we haven't heard her Osgood Schlatter's condition is detoriating, it might even be bettering.
So from the physical condition, there is no reason to quit.

If she decides to quit at the height of her career, what are her options?
Can she all by herself really stand alone, financially independent while still being a youth?
Unlike her namesake Alina Kabayeva who after an illustrious career winning every Gold medal of importance entered high society, I cannot imagine our Alina at almost 17 years of age really wanting to live the life of a society superstar.
Our Alina is reserved and a little shy by character, quite level headed I always thought, she'll be boring to the other members of the jet set.
Will our Alina really be pleased by the undivided attention of the society gossip press dissecting every moment of her days and nights, her love life, her boyfriends, the contents of her clothes locker, her hair, paparazzi chasing after every little detail always out to create a scandal?

One can be reasonably certain Alina, her parents, Eteri Georgyevna, FFKKR counsellors etc have discussed the options available to her now and in the not too distant future if Alina wants to continue skating.
I think she'll prefer to live the life of a figure skater just a little longer, the predictable and comforting daily routine of training with her friends and familiar members of staff at Khrustalniy. The thrill of learning new elements, new programs, and competing them together with the best skaters in the world in many competitions.
Nobody is sure and certain of what 2019-2020 season will bring, but I think Alina just wants to try her hardest to bring out the best in herself again and postpone her other options and plans till same time next year.

By the time she is 18 and a legal adult, she can decide for herself and together with trustworthy advisors start making other plans.

Judging by her restraint on social media and the low profile kept by her family, I think it is safe to say that Alina understands the value of privacy in her life.

If she is asked for information she doesn't want to reveal she simply says that it is a secret. Best way to handle it.

As much as I wish she would share more, I respect her so much for protecting her privacy. People can't ruin what they don't know about.

I would also mention the rare “ballerina on ice” quality. Her programs received much critisism, but they are some of the best examples of ballet on ice. Don Quixote (especially with the backloading, which gave it specific temp and grand finale), and Swan Lake are obvious in that respect, but Carmen is also based on the ballet version. In POTO, I feel like I can endlessly watch the “music box ballerina” moment, she has amazing poise and speed.

Probably DG’s mother has contributed a lot, but Alina herself does remind of Plisetskaya, she is just exquisite. Her arms are perfect and they must have worked on that a lot. For DQ she specifically uses “Spanish” arms, for example. It is the attention to every detail, plus her natural grace, combined with athletic power, that makes her mesmerizing and one of a kind.

And I love her personality, although she supposedly has none :-) The character she showed this season is admirable. Being able to compete when growing, when everyone scrutinizes her every move and waits for her to fail was courageous.

So well said Lesnar. Alinka is unbelievable and deserves all her successes because she's had some growing pains too and overcome them.

Hope Daniil keeps up his tradition and posts a teaser photo of one of Alina's new programs tomorrow :) I am excited to see what they come up with especially as they want to try something new. Off season is too loooooong.

I really hope Daniil announces Alinas program(s) tomorrow! Hopefully since Sasha’s FS has been released.
