2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

It wasn't an opinion, it was an explanation of why that call wasn't entirely pulled from their rear ends

Was Alina on an outside edge... yes or no?

I have no opinion on this at all. I just think the right question should be this: Does she have an inner edge? After all, this is what the judge indicated.

It was your opinion about the situation with that dubious call, nothing more. And she wasn't on the "inside edge". FYI "e" means she was. It was a mistake of the tech controller that should be investigated.

Still avoiding the question

Was she on an outside edge? No

That's a !

If it could be a ! then any edge call is not out of the blue at all, is it?

I thought she was more towards inside at take off than outside though feel ! would have been enough. The e was harsh but not criminally so

:reye:

and for the post in general: :rolleye: :disagree:

You just can't imagine Alena's real level. She stands out even against all the crystal girls. Maybe you can only compare with Sonia and Camila. Please don't humiliate her this level of skating. She should be a real bright star.

I don't agree it is an ! As for me it is slightly outside edge

So I believe "e" was criminal

Funnily enough not even Alina seems to agree with you. She accepted her score, there is no protest from her and her team. She is not crying "investigate this guy!!!"

I do not agree she was on an outside edge. That photo is so blurry you can hardly tell that's Alina nevermind what edge she's on! No wonder you see things a certain way using that!

What does "e" actually stand for and what does it do?

It means a lutz is performed on the inside edge or a flip is performed on the outside edge. The lutz is supposed to be done on the outside edge and flip is supposed to be done on the inside edge so an e indicates a bad edge. The penalty is the same as a <, a 20% dedication in BV plus negative GOE on top of that.

! Indicates a flat edge, neither inside nor outside. There is no reduction in BV for a flat edge but the judges usually reduce GOE.

I don't get the people who are trying to say that Alina (or any other skater) could change their jumping technique overnight. This was Alina's first GP for the season but we've already seen her skating a couple of times - Test skates and Japan Open, not to mention her shows from the summer. In all of those she's been jumping her lutzes as she used to do. She never had a big outside edge, still mostly she managed to keep it outside or it was flat at worst. I would be completely fine with a ! from today but it's obvious that an (e) call wasn't just a little bit too harsh, it was wrong.

I won't comment this topic anymore for now because I really got angry. It all began with Anna's downscoring and now this. I mean, even their coaches who are right there at the rink and see what the judges see, seem to be very very surprised with the scores.

Alina is just being gracious about it.
I mean, should she show middle finger to judges, scream, cry and make a scandal out of it if she disagrees with the call to show you that she actually disagrees with the call?

I see nothing funny. Do you really expect Eteri student to openly rebel against judges? Is Alina some kind of Ashley Wagner to you?

Of course she will accept her scores. And I believe she will work even harder because of it.

Everyone makes mistakes.

Are you saying that even a skater with a clear outside edge could never ever make an error and flutz?

That is an impossible standard you hold these athletes to

Thanks, I know what a flip a lutz and a flat edge are lol I am a competitive figure skater, I just wasn't sure what the e actually stood for but I guess it is pretty obvious that it stands for edge haha, thanks for letting me know anyways

If there is a genuine reason to believe something "criminal" is going on, skaters and their team CAN and DO file complaints.

They have before, no matter who coaches them.

A Russian lady has, Irina Slutskaya 2002 Olympics

Trained technical specialists can easily determine the edge, because it is their responsibility when judging. True, here comes the memory of Sofya Samodurova and her roofing felts flip, roofing felts lutz.
