Alina Zagitova

So in good news/ apparently Alina left the filming early (at 23:00).
Laishev said that Alina’s Uni is 10 min from their rink and that he (wink-wink nudge-nudge) has connections there and Sambo’s good friends with the Uni. (It kinda backfired on him, but the point is, I think there are possibilities for more flexible schedule for Alina)

Since Laishev said both Evgenia and Alina were supposed to be hosts of the show initially, but then something didn’t work out, I‘d assume the show schedule wasn’t really going to interfere with training and was supposed to be managed easily, since Evgenia definitely did not plan to skip RusCup stages.

+ since quite a few athletes might skip RusCup stages due to injury, like Danielyan, S/K, S/B, I would assume Rusfed is not going to just knock their top athletes out of RusNats. This means to me that there would be a way to get to RusNats even without the Cup Stages.

The part that had me dead from laughter:
I read a news article on Sport Express (a Network largely not in favor of Eteri or Alina, just imo) called „Alina refused to comment the state of her preparation for Test Skates by saying „I’m not allowed to say anything“

I immediately think: this sounds strange.
Turns out, the guy who „reported“ that is one notorious journalist from SE (the one who’s largely not in favor of Alina or Eteri).
He filmed an insta story of her passing through a dark hallway behind the scenes somewhere and asked if she liked working with Yagudin, to which she replied (as she kept walking away) that she’s not allowed to comment on that. He then says “So it isn’t going good, right?”(what a jerk, Jesus, Immediately manipulating her answer into something else) and after that throws a question about test skates, but she’s already gone and didn’t hear it.

He then goes and makes this article by twisting what happened and it’s immediately reshared everywhere. Modern day journalism... no words, we can only laugh at this.
Her word thrown in a dark corridor as she’s going home at night to a guy she doesn’t know, who’s filming her on a phone (!) gets completely twisted into some tabloid level headline.

Kuznetsov? Known "journalist" for his love about Alina. He better learn to pronounce some letters, "r" included. Thanks for bringing this here so that people who don't follow Russian press see a sample. And keep in mind this is not some comment from random people on youtube or sports.ru etc.

Princess

P. S: I see it was originally posted by Elena Isinbayeva, I wonder whether she will be a participant and we will see her skating :)

Elena is in judge panel of the 1st issue (Navka, Sergey Lazarev (pop singer), TAT, Mishin and Elena Isinbayeva).

Alexander Kogan about Alina withdrawing from Test Skates:

"We must be sympathetic to the decisions of our Olympic champion. Of course, it's a shame she's not performing. She has a very interesting short program. At least I'm judging by what I've seen. Therefore, we feel sporting sadness because of this decision - to withdraw from the test rentals"

Now I want to know what this short program was :sad4:

It's since 2014 that I have to skip the "season" so early  . Maybe later Alina decides to skate something, maybe not.

Esmerelda :sad21:

I don't know this but that is the last program for her that Daniil posted about on IG.

I am still hoping against hope we see it someday.

This season was always going to be 'weird' and hard to take seriously. The fact that it is the pre-Olympic season just boggles the mind. I was hopeful to see Alina skate. Since that isn't happening (at least not in a competitive scenario) I can let go of this season and just wish all the skaters well. And most importantly to stay healthy.

All of these early season injuries to so many Russian skaters (Nikita Katsalopov, Alexandra Stepanova & Dmitri Aliev) are concerning. I wonder if being off the ice for so long and unable to train normally and then returning and trying to make up for lost time had something to do with it?

Feeling a little sad today about all of it.

When the news that she hadn't decided to participate in Russian Cup came out, I thought Alina might choose test skate as her final competitive stage to say goodbye. I suppose a lot of her fans have already bought the tickets to support her. This decision really hurts them. I wonder why she announces the withdrawal so late, her corporation with ice age must have been made a long time ago. This may impose negative influence on her reputation.

On the other hand, so many athletes will miss the test skate due to injuries, the new season is full of uncertainty. I really hope all of them could stay healthy.

Some people are big time mad about it. But it is her decision to make. She has to do what works for her. I'm sad for the people that bought tickets as well. Not just Alina fans, but imagine the ice dance fans. :( The Rusfed has known Dmitry Aliev has been in Germany getting injections for his back and only just now let that be known. I know that is not exactly the same since it wasn't his image all over the posters they used to promote this event. :(

To be completely fair to Alina, we don't know everything that went into this decision and the way it was announced. I'm inclined to give her the benefit of doubt that she had to play by a certain set of rules. But even if she did make her final decision at the last possible minute, she has the right to do that.

As for her reputation, from what little I can see online, the people that love her, love her and support her and wish the best for her, whatever that may be. And they respect her right to make decisions for herself and change her mind. The people that like her only so much as she continues to do things that please them are certain to be disappointed. If not now, eventually. It's a two way street. She is not here to live up to people's expectations and people do not have to continue to care and support her. If the price of learning that is the cost of a ticket, then so be it.

And then there are the very special 'not fans of Alina' that are alternately thrilled and vindicated. This is a good day for them. They are celebrating the sadness of Zagistan as well as the 'damage' to Alina's reputation.

The Russian media (in my opinion) is being less than kind and respectful, but this is not exactly a new thing. Some well-known skaters are publicly supporting her right to make her own choices. In 72 hours everyone will have moved on to the next thing. Hopefully.

I'm not trying to be dismissive of people's unhappiness with her choice. Just because Alina has the right to make the decision doesn't mean she is immune from the consequences of that decision. And in her case literally every decision she makes has the unfortunate consequence of being judged, sometimes harshly, by an online community of fans, "fans", not-fans, retired skaters and media.

I support her no matter what, but I'm still wistful about not seeing her skate. At this moment, on Twitter, in the US -

Seems appropriate

To me it seems like Alina planned to compete this season in the beginning. I guess we'll never know what happened after that made her change her mind, but whatever it was, I'm sure it wasn't an impulsive, last minute decision...

The federation must have known for some time that she wasn't going to be at test skates or Russian Cup and they decided to pretend like they didn't know to use Alina's name and image to sell tickets and create media anticipation. Just like they also didn't reveal that Dima Aliev, S/K and S/B were also skipping test skates and maybe Russian Cup as well.

Kogan said he saw Alina's new SP and that it was very interesting. I don't know, this is all very strange but if it's any reputation that is being damaged, it should be the Federation's, not Alina's.

All I can say is that Alina looks happy where she is right now in life and that's all that matters. And if she decided that she would rather try something new than participate in this weird and uncertain season, I definitely don't blame her for it.

Like most of the fans here, I always worry about Alina: did she pass the exams, which college had she chosen, was she spending more time with her parents at the dinner table now, ... Deep in my heart, I still wish that Alina could learn a 3A or a quad, and even win the next Olympics.

For many years, Alina was with her grandma alone, far away from her parents. She didn't have a normal life, couldn't talk to her parents often, for example, to improve her language skills. When Alina got admitted to RANEPA in the major of journalism, I was excited but in the mean time thought: wow, a big challenge. Then I read the news that her father quitted his job (probably to join Alina in Moscow?), and I was relieved, because a more normal family life will be a huge help to her study and future career. When I read the news that she joined the ice age show as a co-host, I started to worry again: was she going to be super nervous and screwing up everything? worrying non-stop, why? Because I cherish everything she gave us, and I want her to have the best in the world, so more caring, and more worrying.

I understand that some people are unhappy, and maybe rightly so. But I myself am not upset or sad at all, not a bit. I support Alina's decisions, no matter what. I wish her happy and great success in college study!
