Russian Junior and Senior Test Skates

Another great group!

'I've-had-the-time-of-my-life'-guy was good.
Italian opera-guy was also good.
Elvis Presley-guy had some stunning freezing positions.
Guy-in-black - n/a

Is it over now??

Guys, forgive me, but I‘m out. I‘m visiting family and friends for the first time since November. Things to see, people to do… I‘ll see these boys lots of times during the season.

And I hoped you were all exaggerating, but after watching the archived stream... :slink:
Only one who was watchable in decent quality was Mark K. who had a lovely performance (Russian message board says Sokolovskaya brought her own wifi so everyone could see Mark, then turned it off again after his skate ). He will rock the first two JGP stages!
Ilya had some wild jumping passes, but then he probably didn't give it his all since there was no ice cream in sight anywhere (man, will this ever get old?).
As for Soloviov, I really liked his Nirvana SP last year and had some reservations about his venture into Dirty Dancing territory, but he pulled it off nicely. :cheer2:
Onwards to the Free Skating tomorrow!

Oh, goodness, this stream reminded me the latest Skating Skills that was ‘recognize the skater by childhood photo’. This was ‘recognize the blurry image of skater from security footage’.

me: mom, dunno, they are really hard to tell apparat. Black training gear, short hair…
mom: well, Popov has a curly mop.
me: still does?
mom: God knows, couldn’t see.
me: hmm, I don’t even remember seeing him. Lag?
mom: he skated the first
me: (facepalm) thought ‘twas Golubev…
mom: nah, nah, Popov is easy to recognize by the way he jumps. It’s different than the other guys.

I kindda wonder if he spins the other way or mom is just commenting on general technique.

I just remembered who the guy with the black and white (blond?) hair is... Artem Kovalev! Should have remembered that one, I do follow him on Insta

Kind of late to this thread, but could anyone please tell me if the senior test skates is included, or is it just the juniors. If it is included, could I plase know when that will be? 🙏:party2:

Just caught up on the junior RD o_O

The only part of the RD that I vaguely understand is the Blues pattern section, since I've skated it before for a test... Here are my notes in the miniscule chance that someone is interested:
  1. Svistunova/Studenikin - need more power, edge depth, toe point.
  2. Mamchenkova/Volkov - decent pattern, messy foot/leg positions.
  3. Leontieva/Gorelkin - Better than the first two pairs in terms of line and foot neatness. Body positions match each other well, nice pattern/smoothness. Need a bit more speed/body lean and tighter timing.
  4. Kaganovskaya/Angelopol - good power and flow, decent timing/foot placement/body lean. Need more free leg stretch on swing rolls and matching of body position.
  5. Rumak/Goncharov - good match on lean/body position, nice edge depth. Tend to stay down in knees (ideally should rise up and down). Need a bit more power. (PS: Gleb, a 'bad boy' - who're you kidding? :p )
  6. Tyutyunina/Shustitskiy - extension ok, knees a bit stiff (his more so), edges leading up to the choctaw are a bit shallow.
  7. Khavronina/Chirizano - so far the best flow and depth at the trickiest part (the 2 fwd inside edges into choctaw then crossroll to exit). Very smooth, fairly neat foot placement and stable upper bodies. Somewhat unorthodox free leg positions (usually ok, but forward swingrolls look awkward).
  8. Rybakova/Makhnonosov - nice classic upper body lean, decent flow and knee action, leg position and foot placement generally ok except her cross-behinds at the start of the pattern bug me as the knee is bent and turned sideways (my coach would call it 'froglike').
  9. Linchevskaya/Babaev-Smirnov - nice knee action and foot placement with good musical phrasing (esp. cross-behinds), also efficiency in generating power. A bit shallow on the actual choctaw edges (the tricky bit).
  10. Ovsyankina-Samokhin - Look tentative, need more power/body lean/knee action (esp. him) as edges are kinda shallow. Also need to match positions more. Surprisingly they're the first pair to actually rise up on straight legs for the choctaw (the classic way, versus slightly 'froglike').
  11. Shichina/Khubulov - her posture/lean is kind of off (he's dragging her in the hold), also foot placement not so neat. Decent flow but considering their height/apparent age they could do better. Questionable free leg positions, possibly deductable.
  12. Kachushkina/Muratov - power/edge depth is middling amongst the teams (he is the stronger of the two). Decent lines/neatness of feet except like some others here they do a weird football-kick developpe instead of a proper forward swing roll (out of sync to boot). (PS how old is she? Very short torso confuses me.)

Just for the pattern section I liked L/BS, R/M, K/C the most (don't know enough about the other technical elements). Crazy music/choreo all round, but kind of refreshing after two years of foxtrot :D

And Men's SP!
Yay!! Thanks for the heads up!

Funny, Dikidzhi's SP is 'Lord and Master' by Apache. Samarin is skating to the same music for his LP this season. Nathan Chen's fan thread rumour has it he's also skating to Apache (not sure how reliable) The first time I heard Apache in FS was Samarin's 2019-20 LP (the one with the face on the back of his costume). So... is Samarin a trendsetter now?!

Lol, I'm glad I'm not the only one who watched that! I briefly thought about starting a thread about it here, but then figured that that might be too extreme even for the off-season. :ROFLMAO: By the way, did they ever reveal who it was on the last picture?
