Ladies' SP

Thanks to everyone doing pbps -- I'm still reading through the men's threads and loving it, and now the ladies; it really stinks not watching, but having these great pbps makes you feel like you are there! thanks again

Yeah, and these people probably get the jumps right. I was thinking about editing my pbp-posts after the protocols were up and pretend that I knew everything... Theoretically I know the difference between a loop and a salchow - but some skaters have so little preperation going into the loop that I sometimes mistake it for the salchow. And sometimes I just forgot what the setup for the jump was and guessed wildly...

Well, this afternoon I am just watching. I thought Caroline was really good and at the beginning also fast, powerful - but the step sequence towards the end was very slow again, but she is young and will improve.

Myriane Samson, Canada

Hesitated on 3R but landed it.
Looks disappointed

I wasn't sure if some jumps were 3R or 3sal either.

Nella Simaova, Czech Republic

Looks like she opened up her 3R into a 2R
Did something weird on her 2A take-off but landed it
Her presentation was quite mature, IMO

Isn't the required solo jump in the SP this year the loop? I'm pretty sure all of the solo jumps were loops - no salchows.

Rachael was great. I'm glad she beat Caroline in PCS cause she deserved it although the difference should have been bigger.

Sonia Lafuente, Spain
Tango de Roxanne (her choreography doesn't really hit the music? Or am I having too high expectations because every Tango de Roxanne program will be mentally compared to Yu-Na Kim's amazing Worlds 07 performance?)

46.36 into 9th, new SB

I agree with the placements, but Flatt's PCS could be slightly higher.
On a side note, was any body else bothered by the way Nagasu lands all of her jumps on the inside edge and quickly switches to the outside edge? Her jumps look fine to the naked eye until you see those uneven tracings on the ice.

I'm so thrilled for Mirai! Great job. :)
Kudos to Rachael and Caroline as well.
I'm glad to see that Rachael and Mirai got higher PCS than Caroline - imo, they are better skaters with smoother flow and better speed, and the PCS should reflect that. Also great to see Vähämaa get the highest PCS after the American girls; I just love her style.

Wow, the American youngsters are not only extremely talented, but sooooooooo competition tough. They all put out their best in the SP! That's really amazing.

They would have come in 1-2-4 at 4CC after third (Mao Asada would've been 3rd).

American ladies definitely have a bright future on the international scene! No other country boasts such a promising crop of teenagers right now. 2010 is starting to look very good for the US. It's also really good that these three, plus Ashley Wagner, are pushing each other to improve their skating. None of them can rest on their laurels and hope to coast, because the domestic competition is so tough. It's probable that two of them won't even make it out of National's next year, unless Ashley can create some miracle at WC this year. It's so sad, but at the same time it must be so motivating for all of them!
