Ladies LP

Congrats to Rachel she deserves the title. What a skate, she was really on. Her technique is to die for. Congrats to Caroline and Mirai, you all did excellent and should be proud of your accomplishments.

Yeah, Caroline's score is a bit surprising. She must have had a downgrade(s) or some other major rule hits. I didn't see anything either ...

In her free skate, she removed her combination spin and cut down on the choreography before her 3F. The transition from her senior vs. junior free skate program was seamless.

I couldn't find a YouTube video of Rachael's Nationals free skate where she did the hydrant spin (as part of another spin). Sorry.

i think that is because the isu didn't want to break up the top 3 from nationals andand because of nationals caroline finished 4th and the usfsa didn't promote her (inflate her score like they did mirias rachels and ashley pcs, the isu didn;t want to change her score. which they should have. i think caroline got rooked out of a medal at nationals and out of a title here because of the usfsa. they didn't want her being number 1 . i don't think they like her much.
just look at what they are doing to michelle trying to knock down her accomplishments.
i believe the whole reason kimmie went to richard is to prove tara jumps wrere good. they don't even mention michelle anymore.

Agreed.

I'm so thrilled for Rachael! I knew she could do it because the LP is where she shines. I was really rooting for her to win this and a BIG CONGRATS to her for the gold!!:clap:

Congrats to Caroline for silver and Mirai for bronze!

GO TEAM USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clap::bow:

This was my dream result for this championship and it actually happened!

i dont think the isu wanted to upset the standings from nationals. that is why carolilne got beat. she got rook out of inflated scores at national . ashley, mirai and rachel got inflated scores to look good.
who cares if she skates slow. only in figure skating do they overlook bad sloppy, skating, with wrong edges etc for fast skate. in life if you go to school and take your test quick and make a mistake you can't go to a teacher and say i went fast overlook it. please don't count it. or at work if you make a mistake by going fast you have to redo it to correct it and/or it counts against you in promotion salary wise time. only in figure do they allow fast skating as cheating.

Rachael had better skating skills, flow and technique than Caroline. She also skates "bigger". Caroline's loop was pretty ugly and she took two edge deductions. She won the PCS, so I don't think your theory holds up.

Was anyone else...I don't know, less than thrilled with the medal performances? Rachael and Caroline had excellent skates, but I'm not a fan of either's style. I guess this just cemented the fact that I like Mirai much better than this two. Unfortunately, she had a rough skate.

That Jenni Vahaama is one beautiful skater no matter how she is placed. She does not go after the audience. The audience goes after her and that's what happebed to m.e.

Wouldn't you know icenetwork goes dark before the scores.

Me too. She was fabulous. She has elegance and grace and that's something that can't be taught. Kudos for her for attempting at triple-triple. I hope she can bring back the lutz into her programs.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I enjoyed the first group the most. Ivana Reitmayerova (Slovakia), Vähämaa and Alena Leonova were my highlights tonight.

I just went back re-watched Caroline's 3R. It doesn't looked under-rotated more than a 1/4 turn to me. The scores took a very long time to come up, I wonder if they were reviewing all of her jumps in slow-mo to see if she had UR. Once you have a reputation for UR it totally sucks. Even though she has really worked on fully rotating those jumps since SA. Oh, well, what can you do? Except work hard at home and try for a better outing next time?

I haven't seen the live broadcast, so I have no idea about the theory you are proposing, but seeing from the protocol, if Caroline did like it was written in the protocol, I think it is fairly judged. The top three are well deserved each of them.

Out of 6 Lutz attempts by the U.S. Big Three, 5 were hit with the dreaded "e".

Caroline got two e's in addition to the downgraded loop (I think that was correct). She lost almost 7 points on those three elements.

Rachael had positive or 0 GOEs on every element except her solo (f)Lutz.

In PCSs, Zhang's riveting lyracism edged Rachael's impressive display of skating skills by only one point.

Well, at least Caroline can feel good about getting the highest PCS, especially for her interpretation and choreography, which I think is rightly deserved. I thought she skated more "with" her music than anyone else, and also the choreography was more subtle and mature.

Plus, she really overcame the pressure of skating last, and got past her nervousness. I'm sure that she will find herself preceded by great skates from Rachael, Mirai, Ashley, and all those amazing senior ladies on the international scene, in plenty of occasions in the future. So the more she can train herself to have nerves of steel, the better!

Kind of expected this to happen to Mirai. She didn't look too confident at the beginning of her SP yesterday.

Count me in as one of those who's disappointed at Rachael's win. I haven't seen her LP, but if her previous skates are anything to go by, she lacks the requisite spark and comes off as too bland for me. Her speed is not much better than Caroline's, and her spins and spirals are second-rate compared to Mirai's and Caroline's. I know the technique on her jumps is fairly sound, but I find Ashley even more exciting to watch than her.

Pity about Caroline, but until she cleans up those "dirty spots" Michelle talked about, she's always going to be held back in the scoring. It's frustrating - she seems to be so close yet so far. Oh well, at least she already has one WJC title. And if her loop was anything like the iffy one she landed in the SP, I can understand why it was downgraded.

I agree. I was worried about her skating in last place but she proved me wrong. Loved her LP.

Mirai's flutz was more flagrant than I noticed before. When she was taking off, I was a little surprised by how much of a flutz it was. She didn't even get an 'e' on her 3-3 yesterday in the short, right?

Caroline got two e's in addition to the downgraded loop (I think that was correct).

Right or not, it cost her 4.3 points! (compared to what she got at GPF, the last international competition for her) That would've been enough not just to get her the gold, but also win the LP. Wow!

She was a lot closer at defending her JW crown than Mao Asada did at her second JW, though. ;) So at least on the nerves front, Caroline seems to be doing well.

That´s why I am surprised Zhang won the PCS.

I thought Rachael looked slow too.

Honestly, I'm disappointed about Mirai, but in someways kind of glad. I've really been concerned about Mirai because ehe's struggled with her long program all season long..

I think this result and not doing a clean long program all season, might convince Mirai that a change is in order. I'd love to see her go to Rafael now that it looks like his relationship with Mao is caput.

It is really difficult to compare the personal components of the three US girls. They are all 14-15, but Nagasu and Zhang are children and the presentation and interpretation by Flatt is much more mature.
