Mens Short

Absolutely, a nail biter! I hope they show the SP.

The whole thing ended with the NY proviso; It ain't over till it's over. The LP will be a humdinger.

Jeffrey and Johnny whoda thunk it.

Tomas and Daisuke right behind them.

Brian and Stephane to quad their way upwards.

The competition itself showed a lot of raw talent coming into view. This coming Olys will end another era with a brand new batch of skaters to argue about.

Johnny got an edge call on his Flip, that's why he is behind Buttle. Well, he should be glad that he has just one Flip in the long.

Buttle wins short program

I am so happy Jeff won the short program. So many thought that Jeff's glory days were behind him when Patrick Chan won Canadian Nationals and jeff fell to second place. So glad jeff proved that he is still a contender. His skating is so beautiful to watch with his lovely artistry. I wish him the best skate ever for tomorrow's lp. Jeff is a cutie too.

All programs from top 6 men were amazing! this competition just rocked the house!...

- love daisuke SP! totally fell in love with the choreografy and his interpretation...
- so happy with tomas verner! he is just amazing! he was enjoying every single moment of his wonderful short program!
- totally happy for johnny! he deserves the medal! I hope his LP will be so amazing as the whole season!
- jeffrey was amazing! love his style!
- sorry for lambiel and joubert...but no matter how the jumps went... they had amazing interpretation...just love brian's fire and footwork (and Am not even his fan!)

this is very interesting:

I never thought, that Jeff could win the short thanks to the technical score!

If only Buttle and Weir had some grace, elegance and musicality, to go along with their world-beating tech, they might have put the contest out of reach of the Primo Danseur crowd. Where's Plushenko when you need him?

I have just watched all top six skaters' SP on youtube. I loved Jeffrey Buttle's SP. It's amazingly beautiful. Buttle's jumps didn't look as secure as Johnny Weir's, but Johnny's SP really just has this much potential which he has maximized this time. (I wish Johnny to get a better SP next season.)

Of all six SPs, I like Buttle's SP the best, and Weir's SP the least (although I like Johnny's skating very much.)

They saw these:

Went, "WTF?", and deducted a point to keep things accurate.

:rofl::rofl: Thanks for the laugh!

In the other thread "Articles about Men SP", someone said that Stephane Lambiel's coach told the press the only reason that Brian got the PCS he did was to keep him in a fight for medals.

i have this weird spooky feeling...i think/ i hope ...it's gonna be johnny! i'm so happy for jeff buttle too. i hope he does great as well. i love the way buttle skates, and i never get to see enough of him.

I was discusted with Brian's deduction! It was because his music was partly sung! I remember thinking at the beginning of the season that his music didn't seem to completely obey the rules, but since, Brian has participated in 2 international competitions with this program, and he never got a deduction. I do believe his music is against the rules, in which case it should be penalised from the beginning for several obvious reasons:
1) Rules are rules - they should be applied in ALL competitions, not just when the judges feel like it!
2) This means that if the rules had been applied from the beginning, Brian would have been sanctionned at the Skate Canada, which is only fair.
3) If the rules would have been applied from the beginning, brian could have changed his music in time for the Worlds, so not to lose points. Because of the ISU's incompetence and lack of consistency, Brian got a deduction he could have a avoided!

However, his performance was very good, although I have seen him interprete the music better at national competitons and exhibitions (He makes me cry when he skates his best to this music!). It's great to see Brian back into shape and skating with such ease and energy! The combination was done with such ease we haven't seen from him in ages, and although the mistake on the lutz was dumb, it's forgivable, as he did it because he was giving it all on the ice!

I loved Daisuke! I think the judges should have given him better component scores (even though he had the highest). He is just so cool!

I'm not a jeff fan, but he did a great performance, so yay to him.

It's great to see Johnny back in shape, although artisticly we have seen him better.

Stephane was good, although I did prefer his interpretation at the Euros. I really admire him for atempting the triple axel, even though it's a very tricky jump for him.

As for Tomas, he just gets better and better!

2. Brian Joubert - 38.61
3. Stephane Lambiel - 38.55
4. Tomáš Verner - 38.43

6. Jefrrey Buttle - 38.03

Huh, that is really odd... In my opinion, the PCS order should have been

1. Takahashi
2. Buttle
3. Lambiel
4. Verner
5. Weir
6. Joubert

I think that Joubert was held up a lot and Buttle did not get the PCS he deserved.

On the CBC, Kurt said what happened w/the vocals was yet another allegded mishit of a key on the computer screen. He wasn't too impressed either and he said too, "All season long he's been skating that and *now* the music gets a deduction."

As the one who choreographed that incredable SP for Brian, I can't blame Kurt being a bit ticked over that.

Thrilled for Jeff. Johnny was incredable too. Brian was great too, but when they did the close up on his face. My Good Lord!! Poor boy still looks gaunt and ill. Not sure what bug nailed him, but you can tell Brian's still recovering. Gutsy trying to defend a Title when your own preparation has been so badly screwed up by circumstances beyond your control.

Spoke to some additional ISU officials this morning. Music deductions can be appealed. The French federation did protest the deduction and the ISU responded. The deduction stands.

That's bad news for Brian; he risks another deduction for the use of "O Verona" in his free. And if I had been Johnny or Stephane last night, I would have run to find a quick music editor to remove their vocals from their free skates. Johnny especially; Stephane just has some wailing in his free program, but the vocals in Johnny's Sarabande arrangement are a bit riskier
