I think Evan had a timing issue. IMO he was overscored, but I wouldn't have given am 80 to Kozuka either (although I really enjoyed him).

Only mistake was two footing the flip.

However, the footwork was literally lifted from last years program and the choreography wasn't that interesting and just seems derivative of previous short programs. I'm disappointed.

I would put him 3rd.

2nd. Eh.

I would have Kozuka 1st.

Probably why there wasn't a big difference. I really wasn't impressed, and really, really wish he'd fix that 3a. It's freaky to watch.

Wow, great SP from Kozuka! I really like his coach -- he also coaches Yukari, doesn't he? He looks so dignified and kind all at once. Anyway, great program from Kozuka, beats his PB by 10 points, wow!

Great improvement from Kevin Reynolds -- it used to be painful to watch him. Much better carriage, line, speed, posture than before. Good off-season improvement for him.

Impressed by Adam Rippon's improvement too -- in carriage, line, posture, stretch.

Even Evan seems to have better stretch and line than usual.

Is it just because it's the first competition of the season and I'm so starved of good skating, that everyone seems really amazing to me? Or are they really skating just so good for so early in the season!

There is a violin on the front of his costume. The top is aqua and purple with some illusion fabric and gloves, bottom is black. Getting last minute advice from Galina

This piece is suited to Johnny and he performed it well. However, I thought he was a bit slow at times. I would put him in second place, but I think he'll be in third.

They just showed Evan being interviewed by Susie Wynne. She was asking him about choreographer Tatiana Tarasova but went back to Johnny getting off the ice

Kozuka was the best, I thought. I'd have Johnny second and Evan third. Evan's programs look the same every year and his 3 Axel is as scary as ever.

Because one poster commented on Evan's same old arm flailing. I don't recall TT's other charges flailing.

Even though there was a chorus, they were not singing lyrics so there shouldn't be a deduction.

I loved Johnny's program! That last slss was really great! Too bad about that double-footing. But it's great that he's only 1 point behind Evan, even though Evan skated as well as he possibly could, and Johnny was only A- or B+. Johnny wasn't just off on the 3F, he was also slow and a little off-balance on the spins. A perfect Johnny would definitely have beaten a perfect Evan, I hope this gives him a lot of confidence going into the LP. Go Johnny!

Kozuka can win this. Forget Rippon. Johnny needs some pizzaz, and Evan was being his competitive best.

He moves quite nicely across the ice, he's really becoming one of my top faves. Yet I agree with Nancy; he looked a bit lost and labored after the fall on the 3A. Hopefully he won't let it bother him too much as he prepares for the LP so he can go out and give it all he has and maybe pull up a bit-the concept of his LP sounds really cool IMO.

Reynolds was definitely improved, but I still thought he was a little overscored. Oh well.

And I agree with Johnny; it's better to peak later in the season than at the beginning.

ETA: I agree with those who say they would have Kozuka first, Johnny second and then Evan third.
