Yeah, not really good choice of wording. It sounds like it was written in the stars for this partnership to happen - but it wouldn´t have happen if Nikolaj didn´t get suspended so that is eh...
Also the timing of the announcement, the same day as Legacy of Ice, it would have been respectful to maybe not use this day of all days to make the announcement....
This is excellent news as far as I am concerned, both of them are fantastic skaters and I want to watch them as much as possible. If they beat fairly my current favourites in the Olympics (Guignard/Fabbri), more power to them, this is sports, nobody should be entitled to medals just because it's supposed to be their turn.

Why would Canada release her knowing that it could stop Paul and Piper from the Olympic podium? I thought they had a 2 year hold on national team skaters? They would be well within their rights to keep the contract and say they can start as a pair for France the following season.
I'm not sure whether Skate Canada's two year thing applies when the skater is changing partners, if it even still exists after Soucisse and Firus' challenge. Brooke McIntosh just had the one year required by the ISU before she started repping Spain. Corey Circelli also had less than 2 years after his last international appearance for Canada and his first international competition for Italy - although the gap was well over one year.

With such big news, people will react loudly. It's not every day that such a new team is formed, with a former Olympic champion and with someone who used to skate with her life partner who has been banned from the sport. It's big news and that will trigger a lot of emotional reactions. Personally, I can see why people would react in all kinds of ways...
I agree it's not unfair to other teams. I think that saying, like I did that " i feel sad for Theo and Loicia" is still appropriate and genuine. People work hard to achieve their dreams and with the nature of ice dance and the limited spots, we have seen it before, when famous teams come back, even just after a hiatus, it does compromise the success of certain teams. I agree it's fair competition but it doesn't mean that we cannot feel sorry for teams that will miss out on the games and miss out on a medal.
It is true that may not gel that quickly though they are training in Montreal for quite some time together and know each other inside out. Their coaching team also knows them already. It's not the same thing as Tim Dieck coming to Montreal, adapting to a new environment and taking quite a while to gel with Olivia Smart..
We have mentioned citizenship issues already. And if you have read this thread, they have mentioned that their goal is 2026 Olympics already.

I don't think Jean-Luc would come back.. He also had his share of injuries and issues. The UK already has two very good teamsI don't know what Gabby's answer was, but if she hasn't completely retired from skating, and if Kaitlyn Hawayek has retired, then I wonder if Jean-Luc and Gabby could team up for UK? (This is purely for selfish reasons, as I think they're both fabulous skaters, and would love to see them return, and obviously, I'd benefit from getting to see them at Nationals)
and perhaps you will get Beaumont back soon 
The way their season is going, I don't know what will happen to BaBe.

I wonder if Chock & Bates are happy with this news. Another hurdle for them to be individual Olympic medalists as they seem to really want.

I am not sure about these rules... they keep changing... but honestly, I think Skate Canada wouldn't want to go to arbitration about this... I think the potato is very hot and better send it to France, where it won' t be as difficult to handle.
I am very happy that Laurence gets another way to end her career. She's a fabulous ice dancer. Many people said she was held back by a weaker partner.
It may also be that Skate Canada believes that Piper and Paul can hold their own and beat this new team

I actually wished they made it after Worlds. I think it adds a little angst for current skaters. Plus we are bored in April - July. It would get more responses then.

Honestly MTE. Also I guess after years of Russian dance drama we’re about due for French dance drama. What will their programs look like, I wonder? I haven’t been too impressed by Cizeron’s choreography for others…

I am sure their FD will be very beautifulThey might not have had the choice of timing. I suspect they were waiting on news from the feds / the ISU / the immigration folks, and then when that came through, they had to announce, before someone leaked it for them: which is kind of what happened, with people seeing her flag had already been changed to France in the ISU database for example.
It's worth noting, skate canada has very little money right now. And Guillame/the french fed has a lot of money. They can't afford more controversial lawsuits trying to keep athletes that don't want to be kept, especially after Carolane and Shane.

I’ve no idea of what motivated Skate Canada to release Laurence without fuss, but I like to think that perhaps they a) wanted to return the favor of France having released World medalist Vanessa James to skate with Eric Radford in the last Olympic season and b) did not want to stand in the way of Laurence being able to end her career on a high note.
Also, it’s not as if there is an unaffiliated and sufficiently capable Canadian male partner available for her to skate with.
