2025-26 British and Irish figure skating

Soucisse/Firus made a change to represent Ireland, I am assuming to get more GP events and world experience.. Here's the thing.. They haven't improved. When they first came out in the Canadian Championships and burst onto the scene I thought they were going to be really good. Then they became stale and never improved in skating quality. Why are they still with Carol Lane? IMO she obviously isnt jiving properly with them. Its beyond clear for years now that they need a coaching change. What is the hold up with this? They cant seriously be happy being in the bottom tier in world standings.
i honestly don't know if it was about gp's as much as it was about olympics. rn they seem to be on a track to be able to potentially get one of the spots at chinese nebelhorn. before they switched they also got 2 spots on the GP, so it wasn't for lack of GP assignments. but yes, they def probably needed a coaching change bc their scores have been going down for years now

Yes, they stagnated and had already done so before they switched. They have since gone backwards compared to other teams, The switch has given them the opportunities for things like Worlds, which they wouldn't have had if they stayed with Canada. However, the lack of competitors for selection hasn't given them the push needed to improve. I am not sure that the Olympics were ever a real consideration, for citizenship reasons.

Yes, I totally agree that having competition for international assignments would have pushed Carolane and Shane forwards. Which is why I so wanted Milla O'Brien and / or Daniel Kaye to represent Ireland when they found partners. Having one or both of them in the mix would have made all the difference. But, Milla hasn't found a new partner yet; and when Daniel found one, they tried South Africa, but then opted for Great Britain.

There's still a chance with Milla. The fact that her sister Eeva is now representing Ireland in Singles may be a good sign that Milla will end up here too whenever she gets a partner.

I really rated Milla's former partnership with Laurin Wiederkehr. So, I'm sure she and a new partner could start to pose serious competition to Carolane and Shane once they get bedded in. Especially since the older partnership are going backwards.

Stream seems to have been stopped after the first pair. :( I assume they must be having technical problems with it.

I feel that way about several of their teams. Their Jr teams have definitely struggled hard in the last couple of years as well.

Perhaps Soucisse/Firus just want to end their careers there, much like Piper and Paul

Grr. I was hoping to watch some of today's stream before I went to sleep, but it's been taken down already. :( I couldn't watch live because of work.

As expected, Ed Appleby is being sent to the Olympic qualifier. Dillon Judge and Soucisse/Firus are going for Ireland.

Neamh Davison and Daniel Borisov might have a low placement after the SP, but they have showed a lot of improvement from last season.

Edward Solovyov did very well in his first JGP. He is in the top half going into the free.

I'm catching up on the Robin Cousins Cup live stream, which is here I don't know how long for:

Zarah and Alex have a mambo no 5 short which is great fun, also they attempted a triple twist! Had some technical issues with a spin but they are great performers.
Rebecca and Kyle I think are looking more comfortable together. They train alongside Ana and Luke right?

Lloyd had a great short including standing up a triple axel, looking forward to seeing this at a jgp

Yes, Rebecca and Kyle train at Dundee.

Having watched the pairs from both JGP Riga and RC Cup, I think Zarah and Alex have work to do if they want to stay ahead of Neamh and Daniel. I feel that the difference was greater than the scores suggest.

I might be missing the obvious, but why is Soloman Williamson being listed as Sidney Dennis Williamson? I was expecting a sibling that I didn't know about, but it was definitely Soloman himself.
