2025 JGP Ankara Women's Short Program

taking skaters out not to jinx them? i should do it too but you know...i like my medals
nope.

Sometimes, if you are not sure about a skater's ability to rank where you need them to rank them, it's better to leave them out if you know that others are more stable.

For instance, last week, I didn't put the right skaters in the right order though I wasn't so far away about who would be in the top 5... but I scored a big five points.

So with Sophie, will she end up being first ?? or will she fall on the 3a combo and not get a combo at all and get down to 5th place... if you put her in 1st, but she ends up in 4th or 5th you got zero points.... but if you leave her out and use more stable skaters, you may score higher ;)

So that's what I do sometimes.. 65/70 points are better than 50 because of course, if you place Sophie in first place and she ends up in 5th.. you lose her 15 points but you lose at least 5 points for the skater you didn't put in first and the skater you had put 5th :)

The singer of this song is clearly a figure skating fan. She was watching all last season, and heard "Voilà" so many times that she wrote a song that sounds so much like it!

EDIT: Ha! Mark also just said it sounded like "Voilà"!

What is with all these French weak singers with even weaker songs ...

this is like a another version of Voilà... which is already bad.
Mentissa is Belgian. And you've definitely heard her before, I remember a Canadian skater using a different song of hers (I don't think Et Bam is her best work, I like her other songs more).

Oh, well. What I posted may not be accurate, but it still made a funny joke.

Just looked her up. And the first thing that struck me - she is seriously cute! That smile - I'm melting!

I just watched her singing "Chandelier" when she was a contestant on "The Voice", and that song really does show off her vocal ability!

probably have heard her but wouldn't be able to tell what or when :) She may be Belgian but she does sing with this French style... more of a spoken voice instead of very lyrical singing... French (and I guess now Belgians too LOL) have a long tradition of these singers. For instance Vanessa Paradis... Quebec singers are usually singing big... not saying they have better songs though LOL but yeah I don't like the small voices. Voilà :)

Vanessa Paradis...

And I cannot get over how much her daughter looks like her.

Well, I suppose it's better than Lily-Rose looking like her Dad...

Speaking of whom, I wonder how many pirates we are going to get this season. They have tailed off a bit recently. 🏴‍☠️ 🦜

I woke up too late for basically everyone I wanted to see, and now my stream is breaking every few seconds. I guess, I will catch up in the evening.

There was a softness to Renee's skating, which suited the feel of the music. That was a nice 3T‑2T and axel. I liked that she went for different arm movements in that held Ina Bauer, and she had a very cool arm wrap in the upright position of her ch combo spin. She has good spins and great flexibility.

On the first page here it's said she was using Layla... I can hear bits of that in it.
