Men's Short Program.. Tuesday 16th, 7:15PM EST

I don't like Evan's skating, and he's too much of a metrosexual for me to think he's attractive...

And he's the one talking about being manly in skating. XD

I like Evan, he has a laid back personality, but in his interviews he just acts douche-y. I cannot stand his commercials during the Countdown to Vancouver stuff in Universal Sports. :disapp:

I'd say 3 *clear favourites* for the medals, but 4 more in contention for the bronze, if - and it wouldn't be *too* surprising - one of the top 3 buckles to the pressure. I'd go as far down as having Chan still in contention, though he's by far the least likely of the bunch to pull it off.

ITA. But I really don't want the top 3 to buckle. Not that I don't want medals for Lambiel or Weir ... it's just that there have been enough heartbreaking meltdowns in this men's competition....:frown:

Daisuke's planning one in the long. He'll go for it.

its probably sure that daisuke will try a quad in his FS.he said that even if he win without a quad, he never feel he is a champion.

:)

So we're having a fallen angel (Weir), Charlie Chaplin (Oda), Scheherazade dressed in black (Lysacek), a brutish gypsy (Takahashi), an 18th Century Baron (Lambiel), and some dude arm flapping to Marton (Plushenko). This is gonna be fun!

Interesting fun fact: 4 skaters who was in the final flight 4 years ago are in the final flight this time around (Plushy, Stephane, Daisuke, and Gaga). Evan of course was in 10th and Oda wasn't in Torino.

I think even Chan has a legitimate chance on podium if he skates perfectly tomorrow. Dai hasn't convinced me in LP yet and though Plushy and Evan are two of the most consistent skaters we have these days, who knows what might happen tomorrow..

I haven't watched it. I am even at work still. But I am very surprised about Joubert, Jeremy, and Tomas. Tomas did not surprise me too much, but I didn't expect him to place as low as 19. Joubert and Jeremy would come back to at least top 8. I am sincerely hoping that Tomas will not have another bombing LP. Lambiel has huge PCS. Wow. 8.50 8.20 8.65 8.65 9.15
I am pleasantly surprised that dai didn't make any mistakes. His SP is a masterpiece. It's very sensitive and sophisticated. I heard that he himself put input in the chorepgraphy process. I hope that he puts it together in LP, too.

Dai is what???!!! I hope not, not unless his quads are at least 80% in practice. He can't afford a hard fall on it. I really hope that's not true. I'd hate to see the quad for him be a deciding factor in the standings to his disadvantage. Lysacek isn't planning it as he can't with his foot.... and I do think he has a great chance of going clean as a result. Plushenko is the only one who is consistent enough on it to risk this jump.

Well, the situation is as follows: he says he'll go for it. I don't know the % of successful quads in practice for him, different practices have different %. it's a new number every day. What's more important, he's willing to take the risk, and nobody - it seems - can change his mind.

But how do you know all this about what Dai is thinking? Are you talking to him directly?

Tweets by Evan and Johnny...

Evan: That was such a blast! Thanks to everyone for cheering me on. I want to do you proud on Thursday!
Johnny: I'm so happy! Thank you to everyone who felt me tonight, I love you. So looking forward to doing it again in the long!

By and large the judging was fair, top three in less than one point it's nothing! others can take their chances as well, anything can happen in the free program. But I have a feeling that those who do make qauds will be granted and placed higher even with less impressive PCS. Good luck to everyone, let the best become the winner!
There have been strange podium members at all times, but as a rule! (the latest exclusion being Emily Hughes) the winners are the best!

Johnny did fabulous. he was magical in his expression and performance. His PCS should have been through the roof! The judges are morons, he was better than Steph and Nobu (sorry I also like them), and they screwed him again!!! I hope he tears the stadium down in the FS and hopefully the judges will get the hint from all the BOOS after his SP score that he deserves the same super ridiculous inflated marks like the overgrown crow gets!

Also screw everyone who ever discounted Johnny!

Daisuke was fabulous as well. If Johnny can't have a medal I hope he gets one. Oh and there's always Worlds if things don't work out well.

Some quotes from Weir after the SP:

"I actually had fun tonight, and that's something I haven't been able to say for a long time. I felt I really showed my heart tonight. I smiled --- I can't remember the last time I smiled like that. So tonight was everything I thought it could be."

"The results are something I can't control, so I can't say 'damnit, I didn't place in the top three today.' I can't control any of that. I just skate. And my goal was to show my heart, to take them on a journey with me so they can feel me."

YOU GO BOY! ROCK THE FS ANGEL!

THIS. But I dislike Evan for it. Just a little bit.

Team Russia should protest. Only 6.80 for transition for Plushenko? Even that no-name skater from Czech Republic got 7.00.
