Men's Short Program.. Tuesday 16th, 7:15PM EST

Yeah, that's why the American, who never flaps his arms and always skates perfectly to the music, interprets every piece of music uniquely and is the most artistic skater ever

Can't say I agree with that!

ITA. Men are a lot stronger than women and 3-3 combos are nowhere near as difficult as a 4-3 combo. I think a lot of guys are slumming with their difficulty because they don't gain as much as an advantage risking a 4-3 as a 3-3. It's really not fair and a huge step back in men's skating.

I really don't see anyone "nipping" on Plush's heels. The scores are close because they are being manipulated. Quite frankly, I don't get the premium paid on transitions. The guy is doing a 4-3 combo- how many transitions is he expected to realistically put before that? So the judges are going to dock him 2 points for lack of transitions when his content was the most difficult. It erases any advantage that he gains through the difficulty of the combination.

Personally I thought Dai skated cirlces around Plushy and Evan last night.
If you want to "roll out the barrels" and only have a jumping contest then I agree that Plushy has the most difficult content. But as to the other elements - which also happen to count - Plushy is not the best at many of them.

Still searching like mad to find Plushenko and Lambiel's short at least, its so frustrating not to be able to watch. *pulling hair out * :(

I know we don't agree much, janetfan, but I can't say I disagree with you there. Daisuke rocked the house, and I'm still wondering how on earth Lysacek beat him on every single PCS component except SS, which Daisuke barely squeaked out on, if I recall correctly.

Well, at least Daisuke seemed happy with his score.

Does someone know where i can watch Plushenko, Lambiel, Takahashi and Oda? I had to miss them as it was 3am for me and i work at 8am. Ive tried youtube, but none, nbc cannot view outside usa. Anyone ? I want so much to see them.

look your inbox. I cant post videos here as it is not allowed.

Best post ever. I think certain people are about to implode that even with that, Evan is not first. It's one of life's major mysteries how he outscored Dai on PCS.

Yes. The advantage gained by doing a more difficult jump combination is lessened by doing easier transitions. The advantage Lambiel gained by a doing a 4-2 is lessened by the fact that he did a 2A. The advantage Chan gains on his high levels (though maybe not for the second footwork sequence) is lessened by the fact that he doesn't do a quad and has issues on the triple axel. The advantage Joubert gains from using a quad in his program is lessened by the fact that he didn't land all his jumps

By your argument, if you've got difficulty in one area, we should ignore your defects in others. And jumps are the only sign of men's figure skating, which is such a narrow view.

i just wached eurosport version and Plushenko looks faster there, lol, than what i remember yesterday, and his spins are not that bad, he doesnt travel and he is faster than before. Dai is rocking. Lambiel is so cute... I watched only these three.

I can't put into words how happy I am that Plushenko did not run away with this, and who is hot on his tail but my guy Evan and awesome Dai!
I thought everyone was generally awesome or terrible, Evan, Dai, Nobu, Johnny, Armindo, Kozuka all in the first catagory. Still in shock over Brian and Jeremey, bur especially Brian. I seriouly wonder if he will withdraw. Stepahne 's spins and steps are out if this world, and he has the crziest way of never quite sitting down on that quad. Plushy did his shtick, i didn't buy it, actually he didn't even sell it as much as usual.

My top three would be:
Dai
Plushy
Evan

but keep them all really close.

Lysacek had some serious travelling on that last spin, his choreo is nothing special, the whole pumping his hand before the end was totally contrived ... I don't know how he got the TES that he did, but what really boggles the mind is his PCS. Ha! Talk about over-scoring!

it looks i remember nothing from yesterday, now I watched the vids, Lambiel 's ending was goosebumping and Plushy finished his program and looked straight back at Mishin with a big smile like a boy to his dad. I almost went to tears again, I think i lack sleep since opening ceremony and I cry too easily now :o

dee you got my message?

Sorry - no chance to read almost 100 pages today, so maybe I am just repeating.

But I am sooooo glad about the difference in PCS between Plushenko and Takahashi (not so glad about Lysaceks PCS). On the other hand I suppose the gold will be decided (only) by the quad. Sigh.

And... I miss Buttle.

I bet the Russian mob has control over the judges.

:) Well, that's basically what Scott Hamilton said at the top of the NBC broadcast. He ran though all of Plushenko's weaknesses and said something like, all of this is obvious to everyone except the judges, who love everything Plushenko does. ;)

Scott also raised the question of Plushenko's "borderline" rotation of his quad. (Actually, I agree it was borderline at about 90 degrees short.)

If what Dai and Evan gained in PCS Zhenya kept at bay with the quad... and if in the LP PCS scores have a 2x factor... will Zhenya pull out two even if no one else in the final flight lands one clean?

This has been billed as the Greatest Men's Field Ever and I have to say... totally living up to the hype. I love it. ^_^

Me too. But I was thinking of his 06 O's SP - if he had done that here in this SP he would have had no chance for a medal - he probably would have been out of the top 10. But I miss his style, grace, spins, interpretation... even his crazy open mouth. I don't think he would have handled the pressure of a home O's that well though.

Yeah, that's why the American can not do 4+3 or at least a single quad?

Well - Verner did not handle the pressure of a far-away-O obviously. So you never know what happens when and where. I also wouldn't expect Buttle to win (who has a real chance right now when I see a base value of over 13 pts for one of the seven elements compared to the rest?). But I have to admit that I don't watch skating cause of the jumps.
