Hey Golden Skate Forumers!
It's the final day of the final Junior Grand Prix in Tallinn, Estonia. This is both great and sad news. The great part being that our Olympic contenders can now begin to focus on doing their senior programs but the sad part is that one of them are on the Senior Grand Prix so finding videos of them at smaller comps will be a bit of a challenge.
First of all, a big congratulations to Brendan Kerry for his 5th place finish in the Junior Mens. E great thing about Brendan is that his level of improvement and the consistency in his jumps now is fantastic. You can tell what training under Tammy Gambill with training mates like Richard Dornbush has done to his skating.
His Free Skate was incredible with some heavy duty jumping content. This included a 3A+3T, 3Lz+2T+2T, 2A sequence and all the triple jumps- Lutz, Flip, Loop and Salchow. Despite a drawback at the start when he singled bis first 3A, it didn't impact the rest of his program. He also got improved component scores- safely in the 6's for 4 of the 5 components.
He managed to score a PB score of 126.60 for his Free Skate (which is amazing considering he only scored 80pts for the free skate at 2013 Four Continents- THAT WAS ONLY 7-8 MONTHS AGO!!) which was to music from 'Gangster Squad.' He finished with a total competiton score of 188.26 points. Well Done.
To put this into a weird perspective if we got his PB's and compared them to the results from 2010 Olympics its quite interesting. Keep in mind that the ISU, sich Vancouver 2010, decreased the amount of points in the Base Value of some of the elements and made some adjustments to the GOE.
Brendan's PB at Nebelhorn of 67.97 would've put Brendan 19th after the SP if he scored that at the 2010 Olympics.
Brendan's PB at JGP Estonia of 126.60 would put Brendan 17th in the FS if he scored that at the 2010 Olympics.
Lets take Brendan's PB's and add them together 67.97+126.60= 194.57...That would've left him in 17th place overall!!
But since 2010, the quality of skating has increased so the pressure is on.
Anyway, we want to wish Chantelle Kerry a big good luck. She is currently in 12th place after the SP. She will be skating to music from the American TV Show, Once upon a time. All the best Chantelle!
