Ladies Free Skating - 2013 Trophée Eric Bompard

I love Ashley and it is a beautiful dress, but......to be picky.....if she's skating Juliet, it should be in a medieval, period cut. I don't think the deep v-neck drop going down far is attractive on anyone.

Suzuki is practically guaranteed to not make it to the GPF with this.

As for Radionova: If Lipnitskaia wins, she's in(unless Kostner is second with like 203+ but I don't consider that even a possibility). If Lipnitskaia doesn't win but places in top 4... Well, Radionova's pretty much out because one of Tuktamysheva or Kostner should win in that case.

If true, then she may be delusional and hard for me to root for.

Anna went on record to say that she did not bad mouth Adelina, rather she was misquoted. Let's us remember that Anna is 15 and is bound to make mistakes, like we've all done in our teen years.

Yep. Some strong skates from the russians here. Mix that with the asians including Yuna's return and our chances look miniscule. Still, Olympic upsets used to happen, maybe they could again. Ashley and Gracie both technically have the ability to be on the Olympic podium with perfect skates and perhaps a couple mistakes by their rivals. We just haven't seen that happen in a very long time.

I will say that I was nicely surprised Ashley could keep such a high score with a couple mistakes, even if it may have been a bit overscored. A few years ago, Ashley skating a long program with a couple mistakes would end up with 105+.

Gracie isn't getting near a podium until she starts showing some grit and mental toughness like these Russian girls have been showing. You can see that they want to win while Gracie seems happy with her mediocre results. It feels like she's holding back and you don't win that way.

So, as long as Julia wins CoR, the GPF will be: Mao+Julia+Ashley+Anna+Adelina+Elena, if she doesn't everything changes ;)

Yes, [Wagner] had a couple mistakes, but the overall skate was still very strong.

If you are talking about jumps, more than a couple. ;)

I count slight cheat and two-footed landing on the 3flip, flutz and slightly strained landing on the 3lutz and heavy step out on the second 3flip. Four other jumping passes were executed extremely well (a lot of elevation, secure landings with good speed in and out) unless there were some cheats I didn't notice in real time.

None of the programs made any sense. For a moment Wagner just wandered around the rink, and I prefer Adelina's extremely tacky Burlesque program to whatever this is. None of the top three's programs are Olympic season worthy.

Sotnikova's and Wagner's FS really are . I don't understand how their movement is supposed to relate to the music. It's just so random.

Pogorilaya is trying her hardest to sell her program but it lacks variety and highlights and she just doesn't have the basics yet.

I wouldn't take Anna's comments seriously; it seems like she was very misquoted by a tabloid. Also, she and Adelina seemed to be going all over Paris together, if Adelina's instagram is anything to go by :P

As an Adelina uber, I am very happy with this result. Onwards to the GPF!

Strong skating by the top 3 ladies here. Impressed by Anna's grit in particular!

At least Sotnikova skated well here but I think it's sort of unfair to both Suzuki and Radionova that they actually skated significantly better than Sotnikova and Pogorilaya but were in tougher competitions.

Wagner guaranteed GPF, Sotnikova looks like almost guaranteed GPF, Pogorilaya guaranteed GPF.

I believe Adelina had to finish at least 2nd to make the GPF - which she did.

Ashley Wagner - Very high quality of execution of the four clean jumping passes. A lot of elevation and solid landings with good flow out. Spins much better than in the short program.

Decent speed and flow but the choreography lacked character, however. Her movement was incidental, she could have been skating to anything (in terms of character and not necessarily timing).

She didn't. She was misquoted by the scandal-hungry newspaper.

ITA. Ashley's FS this time just does nothing for me. Frankly I wish she'd go back to "Black Swan" which for me had much more drama and 'oomph'. This doesn't feel like an Olympic medal winning LP. :disapp:
That is indeed what happened. Adelina won the free.

Good! She deserved to! Hope Adelina keeps it going through to making the Sochi team!

None of the programs made any sense. For a moment Wagner just wandered around the rink, and I prefer Adelina's extremely tacky Burlesque program to whatever this is. None of the top three's programs are Olympic season worthy.

I have to disagree on Adelina. Her program was more Baroque, not Burlesque and not tacky in the least. Of all the FS's here hers is the one I look forward to watching again. She really put her heart and soul into this time. One of her best FS's in a long time too imo. She did a beautiful job. The only thing that I can't stand is the tights-halfway over the skates. I LOATH that in any skater.

I though Wagner was over scored, scoring a 127 with only 4 triples is very generous. I am surprised she won on PCS, I found the programme very empty, a lot of skating around with not much in the way of CH, PE or IN. I think she is very lucky to win. I am glad to see Sotnikova deliver a clean programme, don't like the music cut and the costume needs to be changed. I enjoyed Anna P, she has real attack and goes for it, but her PCS needs improving. Great for her to be on her way to the GPF.

Radionova making the GPF will soley depend on Kostner
either Kostner needs to win gold or a silver with more than 201+ points

Suzuki is very likely out

Disagree. Anything medieval period cut looks like something out of a junior high school play and quite ridiculous on a grown woman (which Ashley is). There's no need for skaters to be completely literal in their costuming, and I prefer Ashley's new dress and the modern approach.

Wow she really thinks she's better than a clean Adelina....

She said in interview that Adelina was a meanie on practice in COC. She trailed behind her all the time! Didn't let her jump. So I guess it's a personal like/dislike thing..

Full thoughts on Monday on my blog but quick thoughts:

Ashley: The program is growing on me. Good to see her get the 3-3 again even with the 2-footed 3F...3T looked clean. Much more polish this time around and she seemed more engaged in the choreography than at SA. Great to see her win back-to-back golds in this event. Still the absolute clear #1 for US ladies...

Adelina: So funny we were all talking about how Adelina needed to drop the 3Fs from her programs and she hits on 3 for 3 at this competition. So proud of her for skating so well and winning...yes...winning the FS and grabbing silver here. So happy for her and I'm sure Sky_fly is just thrilled...

Anna: Strong performances from her too. She's a strong competitor and it's paying off. Her PCS are starting to rise but she has a very long way to catch up to Adelina or Ashley who are much better overall skaters. Anna did look extremely pissed about not beating Adelina...or was I just imagining things?

Samantha: Still my favorite FS of the whole competition. She was great here just like she was great at SA...could she be an outside shot at that 3rd spot? She's performed better than any of the other GP US ladies who are vying for that spot...

Mae: Glad to see her give such a strong performance in front of a home crowd and great for her to finish in the top 5.

Christina: Very disappointed for her. She kinda fell apart here. Don't know what happened to her...

Anna went on record to say that she did not bad mouth Adelina, rather she was misquoted. Let's us remember that Anna is 15 and is bound to make mistakes, like we've all done in our teen years.

From the interview with Elena Vaytsekhovskaya (translated by TAHbKA on FSU):

'Elena Vaytsekhovskaya: I read your interview where you speak warmly about Kostner. And Sotnikova - you mention her 'terrorizing' you in the practices.

Anna Pogorilaya: I was totally misinterpreted and was surprised to read what they wrote. What I meant to say that Adelina's ability to concentrate before the competition amazed me. I've never seen such thing before - she becomes a different person on the ice. As if there is a wall between her and the rest of the world. Of course the expectations of Adelina is so much higher.'

So, as long as Julia wins CoR, the GPF will be: Mao+Julia+Ashley+Anna+Adelina+Elena, if she doesn't everything changes ;)

Hard to imagine Lipnitskaia not winning. Although well, ice is slippery. ;)
