2022 Sofia Trophy

Wow! Biggest cheer I have heard so far was when the final Turkish skater of this group, Ada OZCIRPICI, was introduced.

You know, apart from the fall, that was really good. I think she could be up with the skaters that are currently at the top of the table.

Yep, into 5th place, just half a point behind 4th position.

Now, onto the final group. 4 Bulgarian girls and 4 Turkish girls.

With one skater to go, we curently have a Turkish 1-2, with skater #16 Azra ULUS leading skater #5 Defne ULUTAS by 4.82 points.

Can Beyza BAGIR make it a Turkish 1-2-3?

Up until the last 30 seconds, I was thinking "she's got a good shot of a podium". But then she fell.

But, she did it! Into 2nd position, 0.33 points ahead of team-mate ULUTAS.

It's interesting to see how few changes of the lead there has been. Since the third skater, Maria ILIEVA (who finished 4th), the lead has only changed twice.

Although Azra ULUS had a decent margin, it was tight behind her. Just 2 points coveing 2nd to 6th positions!

A good competition. Hope for more of the same with the remaining Novice competitions today and tomorrow.

And now we leave the non-ISU competitions, and move to the ISU competitions for the rest of the day. Specifically, the Advanced Novice SP's. 4 groups of girls, followed immediately by 1 group of boys.

Since it will be 2h 40m until the boys have their turn, I'll do a separate post for them.

I won't be able to watch all of this segment LIVE, but I'll get an hour of it anyway. And hopefully the stream will survive and I'll be able to fit in the rest before the Free Skate tomorrow. (Although, given the schedule for tomorrow, it will be hard to fit it all in).

Livestream for the Advanced Novice Ladies SP is now on air.

Well done, Zlata RUDAKOVA (LAT). You caught me out.

She came out wearing a dress practically identical to one of the girls I saw this morning. And I thought "Aha. We have another Princess Jasmine".

But, when the music started, I didn't recognise it. And I thought maybe it wasn't "Aladdin" after all.

Then "Arabian Nights" kicked in. Followed by "A Whole New World".

The old double bluff worked! It caught me out both times.

Boys, but that is a pink dress for Zeynep BASSOY (TUR)!

A really fun and enjoyable programme.

I don't think it was the version of "Summertime Blues" that I am most familiar with (the original, by Eddie Cochrane), but it is hard to tell due to the poor sound quality.

And she goes into last place. 😞

Why is it that whenever I decide to write about a programme because there was something I particularly liked about it, the skater goes into one of the bottom two positions?!

And that is the end of my LIVE viewing for today. It's time to get some food.

I'll pause the stream, and try to fit in a few more skaters later on.

So, all the best to everybody that is still to come.

Just so that anybody else watching afterwards doesn't confused like I did, skater #19 Nikita ILIEVA (BUL) has withdrawn.

So, I won't get the opportunity to ask if she is the sister of Maria ILIEVA, who just missed out on the podium in Intermediate Novice.

Anyway, I had to pass comment on the last skater before the resurfacing, #20 Alia SUVARIEVA (BUL).

Firstly, loved the black leather dress, and the Amy Winehouse music. But, I am not too sure about the tattoos of Amy. Don't worry, they weren't real. They were on skin coloured sleeves. But, they toned in so well that I genuinely did think they were real until I saw a close-up at the end.

Whilst she looked the part, I don't think displaying tattoos is right in a Novice competition. Even if they are fake. At the end of the day, it is illegal for children of that age to get tattoos. So, the idea shouldn't be planted in their heads.

Well, unfortunately the stream died about 40 minutes ago, during the final group of the Basic Novice III Ladies FS. I actually thought it was my computer playing up, so I restarted the computer and took the opportunity to go and get washed then rather than during the resurfacing. But, it turns out that the stream did actually die.

So far, there is no sign of a replacement stream. But I am dearly hoping that one appears soon, because I really want to see my youngest kid, Sofia Lapshyna, in action. And she is on in half an hour from now.

Oh no. It looks like it's happening again. Skater #3 had barely started her programme, and the dreaded Revolving Circle Of Doom appeared.

CaroLiza_fan

Well, Sofia is the next to skate, but it looks like we won't be seeing her.

So angry. I have been looking forward to this for weeks.

Well, my worst fears confirmed. We didn't get to see Sofia. 😞

From the results table, it looks like she may have had a fall, as she had a half point deduction. But, she still went into 3rd position, with a score of 36.29.

Apart from her TES score (which would have been affected by the fall), all her scores were the second highest of the 7 skaters that have skated so far.

She currently has a roughly 2 point gap on either side of her. She is 2.17 points behind 2nd position, Ada DEMIR (TUR), and 1.92 points ahead of 4th position, Eva SOVIČ (HRV).

:cheer: WELL DONE SOFIA!!! :cheer:

Mmmm. We are starting with 2 skaters from Serbia, who have the same surname and are from the same club.

Sonja and Maja Marković.

I wonder if they are related.

Well, given that somebody has gone to the bother of making a video showing clips of both of them skating, I think it is fair to assume that they are sisters.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL6klMumrrA

Incidentally, there was an Ivana Marković who finished 16th in the Basic Novice III competition this morning. But she was from a different club.

Anyway, back to the business in hand. Sonja started off 2.46 points behind Maja. But, she had a fall today, whereas Maja didn't.

There was a big difference in their FS scores. 15.59 points. And, hence, the gap between them opened up to 18.05 points overall. And she has remained in last position.

The two skaters directly above Maja in the SP dropped behind her overall, and slotted in between the two Marković girls.

At the end of the opening group, Maja is still leading the FS by 1.28 points over her team-mate, Darinka POPOVIĆ, who leads overall. Maja is currently 3rd overall, with Nadja ZEKOVIĆ (who is from the same club as Ivana Marković) making it a Serbian 1-2-3.

Methinks Arianna PETRUT (ROU) might be a Tuktamysheva fan...

She was skating to music that Liza has skated to. And she was wearing a dress that was very similar to one that Liza has worn.

Unfortunately, she had a fall.

She goes into 2nd in the FS, and the lead overall.
