Bringing Ballanchine Back

If you like ballet and not limited to Petipa and story ballets, and you've never seen George Ballanchine's ballets, you will be in for a treat. It's strictly classical but not in the 'old' tradition. Mr. B, as he was called, considered St. Petersburg his adopted home town, and although he visited it before he died, I do not believe his company ever performed there. So this trip was to pay him homage in his home town.

I am not sure of the ballets they are using but I believe it will be Symphony in C (or Palais des Glace) by Bizet; Agon by Stavrinsky; and Western Symphony (a collection of American folk tunes orchestrated by Hershey Kay).

The last mentioned will show how brilliant Mr. B was with any kind of music. I would love some skater to do a number to Western Symphony but the Kay orchestration has never been recorded.

Oooh, sounds good! Thanks! Western Symphony is one of the very few Balanchine ballets in active repertory that I never saw.
