2016-2017 Nationals - "small" federations

Instead of starting a new thread for each national championship, I propose to merge in one thread the championships of "small" figure skating federations. I don't want to be hurtful, as "small" I just think about federations without ISU championships-level skaters or with only a few skaters in junior or senior categories.

So let's start with the results of Argentinian nationals, held August 1st. Results, Protocols. Nobody did triple jumps.

Senior ladies
1. Anhelina Bosko 77.55 points
2. Maria Andrea An 70.84 points

Junior ladies
1. Florencia Lin 75.15 points
2. Cecilia Schinocca 62.67 points

Novice boys
1. Mauro Calcagno 106.03 points

Novice girls
1. Nicole Mottchouk 68.65 points

Mmmm. So no Sandra Ristivojević competing.

Can't say I'm surprised, though. She spent most of the summer posting photos to her social media accounts of herself in lots of hot countries. There was no sign of any practicing!

Plus, I think she was going through a bit of a rebellious phase. Well, how else would you describe somebody who posts a photo of themselves topless in a strict Muslim country? (Don't worry, there were strategically placed pineapples!)

That said, Sandra seems to be based full time in Moscow now. And there have been photos posted of her on the ice. So, maybe she is knuckling down. But, just too late to be ready for Nationals.

Risky tactic to take, especially now there is a Russian of the same age but with much better PB's in the picture.

Yes she didn't compete last season, so we can think she retired from competitive skating. Since the technical scores were added it was impossible for her to go to ISU championships...

I've been seeing a lot of photos of her and Biryukova on the ice in Moscow in recent weeks. So, I'm not so sure that she has given up.

Maybe not competing last season was a mid-Olympic cycle sabbatical. A chance to go wild for a while before building up for a push in the Olympic season.

But, as I said, it is a big risk. And with the arrival of Dubinina, it could well backfire.

Kostner, Chan, Virtue / Moir, etc. may have made a sabbatical pay off. But they were of a totally different level to Ristivojević to start with.

Is it really the Kazakhstan Nationals?

Kazakhstan figure skating championship final results in English can be found here: ...

Just wondering - if you read the beginning of the quoted article, it mentions that the championships was for "athletes from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan under 18". If that is true, it couldn't really be their major Senior Nationals, could it (although there was a senior and a junior category)?

Regina Glazman is 19 and took part at the senior event. Probably a translation's mistake.

As a Kazakhstani, I wanted to point out that there really isn't such thing as Kazakhstani Nationals . It's called the National Championships, but we simply don't have enough participants at times. The Kazakhstan Figure Skating Open Championship, which it's called in the article, is sort of a mix of nationals + a neighbor-country competition. I honestly had zero clue about the event happening! Unfortunately, pairs and dance weren't even disciplines present at this competition :(

Oh Kazakhstan have a growing championship, for a country which existed only with former russian skaters 10 years ago, that's a good way. I imagine there is many money available to develop winter sports as Kazakhstan organise often big events and was candidate for 2022 Olympics.
And many other championships are or were "open" (the 4 Nationals with Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary; the Latvian/Lithuanian championship... some years ago even the Ukrainian Nationals were an ISU competition!) that's a good opportunity for neighbours skaters :)

Since Khokhlova/Baitkanov split it seems there is no pair skaters in Kazakhstan, and the dance teams probably don't train here (Cook/Yerzhanov are in Colorado Springs and Nauruzova/Datiev probably somewhere in Russia)

Does anyone know anything about Singapole Nationals? When will they do, or if they already did it, where can we find the results?
