At one point, Jason's Riverdance LP was the most popular figure skating video of the moment. I'm sure that's long passed but, it definitely went "Viral"

The original for Jason Brown’s 2014 Riverdance was taken down, and I used to know how many views it had. Not now, though.

Millions.

But as noted, YouTube views, although I think they’re fun, and I have used them, aren’t exactly audited numbers:)

ETA: just saw Mr Rice’s post. Also, as he noted, Jason went “viral”; he got those views in the space of a week or two.

It's hard to measure against each other though, when the ISU and IOC keep taking down videos :/ Med's Sailor Moon had 4 million views and then got taken down. Though there are a few videos of it that add up to around 5.5 million views now.

Generally, I really don't understand why some videos get the views they do. Some amazing performances get barely any recognition and struggle to break 100 views, while stuff like 2-year-old Riana Kadyrova's video gets 6.6 million(And she still isn't very good).

Also the problem exists of multiple versions of the same routine. If say only one version of a program exists that is easy to keep track of but with some skaters nearly every program they do in a season is available and if you counted up all the views it would be a huge number. For example: How many folks have watched Moonlight Sonata spread out of over both GP assignments, GPF, French Nationals, Europeans and Olympics and then of course worlds. That is probably a huge number.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYe-CcEeqE4 4,2 M - Papadakis/Cizeron

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5xuQRuWxqM 4 M - Stepanova/Bukin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQo-kONf1cc 4 M - Elena Radionova

These 3 videos are not actual performances, more like fan videos (or montage), but they got quite the number of views.

Also both James/Cipres and Papadakis/Cizeron (and many others) have videos on Facebook that went catapulting the number of views (30+M for J/C with Sound of Silence at WTT and 40+M for P/C for Moonlight Sonata at Cup of China).

I can name a few:

Kurt Browning - Singing in the Rain - especially when it was shown on the CBC
Kurt Browning - First Quad jump - 1988 Olympics
Kurt Browning - Casablanca program - Olympics and Worlds
Bourne & Kraatz - Riverdance - 1998 Olympics and Worlds
Virtue and Moir - 2010 Olympics - probably 2018 Moulin Rouge will surpass that

The thing is before the internet and the wonderful world of Youtube we only had our VCR machines to record these Gems, and before that well it was "snooze you lose" if you missed it on the good old black and white TV set. It's great we can have this fun debate!!
