Just a wee update on the first skater we saw representing Cyprus, Kristina Dubrovskaya.

Over the past few days, fellow Moscow-born skater Anna Ovcharova has been posting photos of Kristina to her Instagram:

OK, enough about singing and music videos. Time for some skating talk.

The provisional entry lists for the remaining Junior Grands Prix of the season have now been released, and Cyprus will be represented at two of the events.

Polina Usinova will be competing in the Cup Of Mordovia, from 14th – 18th September 2016.

Cup Of Mordovia Ladies Provisional Entry List

The Ladies SP will be held on Friday 16th at 11:00 MSK / EEST (09:00 BST / 08:00 GMT), while the Ladies FS will be held on Saturday 17th at 13:45 MSK / EEST (11:45 BST / 10:45 GMT)

The following week, Daniella Ipsarides will be making her Junior Grand Prix debut at the Ljubljana Cup, from 21st – 25th September 2016.

Now for an update on Kristina Dubrovskaya.

The past year has been very busy for Kristina. Well, one particular week last July was anyway.

You know how I told you that she was studying at the University Of Surrey in England. Well, she graduated on Wednesday 17th:

But the big news actually happened the day before her graduation, on Tuesday 16th:

Her husband is also Russian, and is the co-founder of a technology company. With this in mind, it does seem strange that they got married in England. But they're both based in the British Isles, so it does actually make sense.

They went on their honeymoon on the Thursday 18th, and then it was Kristina's 22nd birthday on Sunday 21st.

Kristina and Konstantin are currently living in London, and a month ago she uploaded a video of them going around the city showing us what London is like during lockdown. And boys but it was surreal to see!

Just be warned, it is 17 minutes long. And they are speaking in Russian throughout. But it is definitely worth watching.

Kristina is sitting in an office chair for all 8m 36s of the video. It starts with her talking at length to camera. I admit, because I don't understand Russian, I started winding through it after about 20 seconds. But, it is a good job I didn't just leave the video because, at 1m 9s, she starts singing. And after this song finishes (at 5m 33s), she starts singing another!

You can really sense the feeling in her voice.

It is now time to wish a happy birthday to the first skater that represented Cyprus in the Junior GP Series:

I hope you have an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for you.

What can I say about Kristina? She was the pathfinder. The first skater to represent Cyprus at an ISU run event (the 2012 Junior Grand Prix Croatia Cup). The highest level Gold Medallist at the inaugural Cyprus Championships in 2013.

As you can see from the very extensive video list, since the pandemic, Kristina has been very active in posting videos on her YouTube channel. She did reviews of holiday destinations; reviews on where to eat; gave advice on living in the UK; and took us along on her journey to becoming a mother. Unfortunately, she has recently removed all those videos, leaving just the ones of her singing when she was younger.

The video that was most hard hitting was the one where she discussed her skating career. I would never have realised that she didn't actually want to be a figure skater. That she was pushed into it. And that the pressure of trying to please others by doing something that she didn't want to do led to her developing an eating disorder. I felt so sorry for her going through all that. And I felt so guilty that I became a fan of her's because of something that caused her so much grief and suffering.

But, I am happy that she has come through it all, and is now living a happier life with her husband and baby.

Anyway, I hope she is enjoying her birthday.
